4.4 x 3 x 2 cm. A magnificent pair of modified Siderite rhombs up to 1.5 cm on edge, with superb luster and color. For an alpine siderite, in particular, it’s really fine. Ex. Marty Lewadny Collection.

Siderite, Quartz from Morro Velho mine (incl. Mina Velha; Mina Grande), Nova Lima, Iron Quadrangle, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-254278a.jpg]

6 x 3.1 x 3 cm. Translucent, curving crystals of lustrous yellow siderite, gracefully wreath a lustrous, transparent, doubly-terminated quartz crystal. The largest siderite measures 2.5 cm across and the quartz crystal is 6 cm in length. This is a wonderful combination piece, typical of the venerable old gold mine at Morro Velho, Brazil. Ex. Dr. Eugene Meieran Collection.

5.4 x 4 x 1.5 cm. Sharp, deep-azure-blue crystals of lazulite on sparkling and gemmy little crystals of siderite - a classic association from this locality. The lazulite crystals are mostly 6 mm but reach 8 mm in size. Ex. Martin Zinn Collection.

Siderite, Sphalerite from Aggeneys, Northern Cape Province, South Africa [db_pics/mdpics/MD-254281a.jpg]

4.5 x 3.8 x 3.5 cm. From a small find that was brought out at the 2006 Munich Show. These are very unusual crystals in that they are hollow casts after calcite, and the coating is a true mixture of sphalerite and siderite. They have been extensively analyzed in South Africa, to come up with this conclusion. So far as I am aware, this is a first. This one is a complete crystal, all-around, very 3-dimensional (more so in person).

This specimen is one of the better clusters I saw, for the size, and has a wonderful surface sheen and shimmer to it, much more evident and almost golden, in person.

Siderite from Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada [db_pics/mdpics/MD-254283a.jpg]

2.9 x 2.5 x 1.7 cm. Superbly defined rhombs of Siderite that are actually two pairs of penetration twins. The luster is excellent, and the habits and geometry are just about as perfect as you can get. The edges even grade to translucent, which adds to the aesthetic appeal. Ex. Wendell E. Wilson Collection.

9.5 x 4.2 x 1.3 cm. Probably the most desired species from this famous phosphate locality, these Lazulites are superbly lustrous and deep blue. It is an unusually rich plate of them, too. The crystals, which range up to about .8 cm, are generously distributed along the surface of the plate, but not so much that they interfere with each other - they have excellent individual definition. On top of all that, there are numerous gemmy Siderite rhombs and possibly even some minute Augelites among the Lazulites, creating even more aesthetic appeal. An excellent specimen, classic. Ex. Martin Lewadny Collection.

7 x 5.5 x 3.9 cm. An incredibly rich specimen of Lazulite, with a thick coating of crystals completely covering three sides, including the two largest surfaces. Even from a distance, you can tell that these Lazulites are a richer, more consistent blue than you normally see, and the luster is superb. One crystal is even a full 1 cm in size. There are even gemmy golden siderites here and there to accent the deep blue. Ex. Martin Lewadny Collection.

5.0 x 3.2 x 0.8 cm. Mirror-bright, indigo-blue lazulite crystals to 1.2 cm richly cover the matrix plate and are nicely accented by brown siderite crystals on this fine specimen from the Rapid Creek area of the Yukon Territory. Highly representative of the species and noted locale. Ex. Wes Parker Collection.

5.9 x 3.9 x 3.3 cm. A gemmy, 1.2 cm, pretty blue vivianite blade is perched on lustrous, jet-black sphalerite crystals nicely accented with yellow-brown siderite disks and sparkly, brassy pyrite microcrystals on this fine combination specimen from the famous and ancient Stari Trg Mine of Kosovo. Vivianite is an uncommon and seldom available species from this historic mine. Ex. Saller Collection.

Cassiterite, Quartz, Siderite from Viloco Mine (Araca mine), Loayza Province, La Paz Department, Bolivia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-258670a.jpg]

6.3 x 4.6 x 3.3 cm. Bolivia has probably produced more tin than any other country in the world. The great tin mines at Viloco (sometimes called Araca) have produced some of the most magnificent Cassiterite specimens extant. This particular specimen hosts several superb, sharp, highly lustrous, very bright, black cyclic twinned crystals measuring up to 2.5 cm across with gemmy crystals of Quartz and small tan "discs" of Siderite. A very attractive association specimen from this historic locality.

Siderite, Pyrite, Stannite from Siete Suyos mine, Atocha-Quechisla District, Sud Chichas Province, Potosí Department, Bolivia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-258675b.jpg]

6.2 x 4.3 x 2.6 cm. The Siete Suyos mine (Seven Servants mine) is sometimes considered to be part of the Animas mine, and it is often difficult to know where specimens are from because several mines in the area share the same vein system. I directly obtained this specimen from the miner who collected it, so I know for certain where it came from. This piece features several excellent quality, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, greenish-brown crystals of Siderite measuring up to 1.0 cm which are sitting upon unusual crystals of lustrous Pyrite (which are actually pseudomorphs after Siderite) which are associated with minor grey crystals of the rare sulfide, Stannite. For Siderite, the quality is impressive for Bolivia, as I rarely have seen such sharp and gemmy crystals from any Bolivian locality. So far, this find has been very limited.

10.0 x 5.5 x 4.9 cm. Boulangerite is extremely rare from the famous mines at Pribram. This very rich, old-time, sculptural, cabinet specimen is richly covered with nests of metallic, iridescent, hair-like needles of boulangerite to about 1.4 cm. The clusters of lustrous, tiny, brown, siderite crystals are a very nice accent. The matrix is layered sulfides and quartz. Ex. Bohemia Royal Museum and Joseph Vajdak Collections with labels. Vajdak is a noted Pribram collector and both labels indicate that the piece was collected in 1860 from the Vojtech Mine. This ancient mine was opened as the Adalbert Mine in 1779, according to an accompanying list.
