The mining of Rapid Creek lazulites ended recently, so if you do not have one, it is time to think about getting your hands on one. This is a large, very rich plate covered with not only super-lustrous lazulites to over half a centimeter, but also contrasting golden siderite crystals. 11 x 6.5 x 3.2 cm

Cryolite, Siderite from Ivigtut Cryolite deposit, Ivittuut (Ivigtut), Arsuk Firth, Arsuk, Kitaa (West Greenland) Province, Greenland [db_pics/mdpics/MD-54401a.jpg]

For the last 200 years, these colorless and lustrous, pseudo cubes, of cryolite, from Greenland, a rare sodium, aluminum, fluoride, have been the standard for the species. The locality is not only now long gone, its underwater. THey mined it below sea level, to get cryolite as an important flux agent for the refining of alumninum. Associated with rust colored siderite, some of the cryolite crystals reach .7 cm across. This is a very showy, excellent, affordable, and good-sized example of this now-vanished species 7.4 x 3.6 x 2.1 cm

Calcite, Siderite from Turt Mine (Ghezuri Mine), Turt, Satu Mare, Maramures Co., Romania [db_pics/mdpics/MD-57244a.jpg]

It is sad to hear that the supply of these gorgeous calcite flowers from Eastern Europe is drying up. Our contact who buys over there told us that these great Romanian calcites are just about finished. These have to be amongst the prettiest calcites around. This one has two intergrown rosettes, stunning with lustre and sparkle, on a carefully trimmed matrix accented with siderite crystals. Perfect size and form, gorgeous aesthetics, just a really beautiful mineral specimen. 6.5 x 5 x 3.75 cm

Apatite, Siderite from Panasqueira, Covilhã, Castelo Branco District, Portugal [db_pics/mdpics/MD-60935a.jpg]

This is a huge, fine crystal of fluorapatite from the world famous Panasqueira deposit which has arguably produced the finest specimens of this species. This crystal is literally monstrous for the locality! It consists of a deeper-colored green core covered by a layer of secondary apatite. The gray-green crystal is glassy, translucent and is studded with tan rhombs of siderite, to 2.0 cm across. There is minor edge wear but this is one super fluorapatite where , in the context of the remarkable size, a bit of edge wear is certianly forgiveable I think. It is very nearly complete all around, impaled upon a ferberite crystal that partially sticks out the backside 9.2 x 7.4 x 6.9 cm

An attractive historic display specimen from this classic locality. 6.3 x 3.6 x 2.6 cm

Nestled aesthetically in a basalt vug are several, very lustrous, discrete, black, botryoids/spheres, to .7 cm across. Sphaerosiderite is now considered a discredited species name for a rare habit of siderite. But that doesnt change the fact its rare as hell and extremely odd and unusual, even as a varietal. It is old material. Visually pleasing! 6.4 x 5.4 x 3.2 cm

Originally in the collection of noted German mineral enthusiast, Werner Lieber, this siderite specimen features three stalactitic growths. The crystals have a dark, greenish-yellow, highly lustrous, bladed, appearance. I must say that this is one of the nicest siderite specimens I have seen from Germany. BETTER in person! 7.9 x 5.9 x 5.8 cm
