11.5 x 7.2 x 3.5 cm. An EXCEPTIONALLY RICH and SHOWY CABINET specimen of lustrous, radiating blades and book-like clusters of the uncommon sulfosalt, semseyite, from the TYPE LOCALITY in Romania. The parallel-growth sphalerite crystals at the top of the piece are a very nice accent.

5.4 x 4 x 2.6 cm. A superb, unusually robust and flaring cluster of semseyite crystals on massive sulfide matrix. CLASSIC old material from this district, now hard to find. Ex. Martin Zinn Collection.

5.5 x 5.3 x 2.9 cm. A visually impressive specimen that has to be among the most aesthetic semseyites I have seen: featuring a 2-cm-long spray of semseyite crystals perched, freestanding, at the apex of a cluster of quartz crystals. Ex. Martin Zinn Collection.
MD-172401 - Semseyite, Quartz - - Archived Herja Mine (Kisbánya), Baia Mare (Nagybánya), Maramures Co., Romania small cabinet, 6.2 x 4.9 x 4.4 cm.
6.2 x 4.9 x 4.4 cm. A 2.5 cm cluster of lustrous, radiating blades of semseyite, "protected" by two, large, frosted, colorless quartz crystals to 5.0 cm and nestled amongst smaller quartz crystals.
MD-184762 - Semseyite, Sphalerite - - Archived Herja Mine (Kisbánya), Baia Mare (Nagybánya), Maramures Co., Romania miniature, 4.2 x 4.0 x 3.9 cm.
4.2 x 4.0 x 3.9 cm. Semseyite is an uncommon lead, antimony sulfosalt, seldom found in well-formed crystal groups such as this. This is a superb, complete all-around and pristine cluster of sharp sprays of lightly iridescent, metallic-lustre semseyite blades on sphalerite matrix. From near the Type Locality. Ex. Ed Ruggiero Collection.
MD-199597 - Semseyite, Sphalerite - - Archived Herja Mine (Kisbánya), Baia Mare (Nagybánya), Maramures Co., Romania small cabinet, 7.2 x 5.0 x 2.7 cm.
7.2 x 5.0 x 2.7 cm. Semseyite is an uncommon lead, antimony sulfosalt, seldom found in well-formed crystal groups. This is an excellent, rich vug filled with clusters of sharp sprays of lightly iridescent, metallic-lustre semseyite blades on sphalerite matrix. From near the Type Locality. The card with the piece states that it was acquired from Larry Conklin in 1974.
MD-240578 - Semseyite - - Archived Herja Mine (Kisbánya), Baia Mare (Nagybánya), Maramures Co., Romania thumbnail, 3 x 2.3 x 2.2 cm.
3 x 2.3 x 2.2 cm. A fine cluster of radial Semseyite crystals with superb metallic luster and brightness. The main cluster of well-terminated and bladed 1.4 cm crystals all line up in an undulating fan that looks somewhere between a crown and the fan of a peacock's tail. This is the type locality for the species, in 1881. Ex. Charlie Key stock.
MD-51209 - Semseyite, Sphalerite - - Archived Herja Mine (Kisbánya), Baia Mare (Nagybánya), Maramures Co., Romania cabinet, 9.5 x 6 x 5.2 cm
Sharp sprays of semseyite perched off of glistening black sphalerite crystals with stalactitic growths of sphalerite, and one is shown in closeup. The semseyite reaches 1 cm in size individually, though the sprays are larger overall of course. 9.5 x 6 x 5.2 cm

MRZ293 - Semseyite - $ 600 SOLD Herja Mine (Kisbánya), Baia Mare (Nagybánya), Maramures Co., Romania miniature, 5.5 x 5.3 x 2.9 cm ex. Martin Zinn
A visually impressive specimen that has to be among the most aesthetic semseyites I have seen: featuring a 2-cm-long spray of semseyite crystals perched, freestanding, at the apex of a cluster of quartz crystals. Beautiful piece, but also the quality of the rarity present is as good as you can ask for!
MZTN-16 - Semseyite - $ 600 Herja Mine, Baia Mare, Maramures, Romania thumbnail, 3.1 x 2.1 x 1.6 cm ex. Martin Zinn
This is an aesthetic, fan shaped cluster of splendent, battleship-gray colored crystals of the rare metallic species semseyite, to 1.5 cm in length. Semseyite is a fairly rare sulfosalt, composed of lead, antimony, sulfide. Crystals of this size and robustness are EXTREMELY uncommon. While specimens (most older) are available to some degree on the market, they usually are limited to closepacked sprays of smaller crystals, usually set down on matrix. I am aware of very few pieces with freestading crystals of any magnitude, and certainly I have never see a thumbnail with crystals as robust and important on their own merits as this piece. So taken together, an excellent thumbnail , but also an important one for crystals and quality for the species . Purchased in 2006 from an old collection being sold by Carter Rich
T06-65 - Semseyite on Sphalerite - $ 700 SOLD Herja, Romania small cabinet, 9.5 x 6 x 5.2 cm
A very 3-diemnsional specimen, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON, with sharp sprays of the rare sulfide semseyite perched off of glistening black sphalerites. The semseyite reaches 1 cm in size individually, though the sprays are larger overall of course. You can see two major sprays of the mineral in the protected crevasse at the center of the specimen between the stalactitic growths of sphalerite, and one is shown in closeup. Superb, especially for the relatively bargain price for this rarity All Content and Design ©1996-2010 The ArkenstonePowered by http://mineralwebsites.comBy-species Galleries | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
