ex. American Museum of Natural History
A stunning, superior quality thumbnail specimen from the Tsumeb Mine. This is large, intense blue, and a large thumbnail. Very scarce on the market, today, this is one of the most desired Tsumeb rarities and were collected over 30 years ago. Ex AMNH exchanged into the collection of dealer/collector Lawrence Conklin.
2.8 x 1.9 x 1.7 cm. A gemmy and lustrous, indigo-blue, 7 mm scorodite crystal nicely situated in matrix from Tsumeb. Scorodite is a rare Holy Grail mineral from Tsumeb and this is a very highly representative specimen, even with the contacting of the termination with matrix. Ex. George Elling Collection.
3.6 x 2.9 x 1.6 cm. MULTIPLE, gemmy and lustrous, indigo-blue scorodite crystals to 1.0 cm nicely situated in a vug on both sides of matrix from Tsumeb. Scorodite is a rare Holy Grail mineral from Tsumeb and this is a very highly representative specimen, even with the contacting of a couple of the crystals. The isolated, sharp crystal on one side is a beauty. VERY SELDOM on the market in ANY quality. Ex. George Elling Collection.
5.5 x 5.0 x 3.7 cm. Scorodite is one of the three Holy Grail species from Mina Ojuela, along with legrandite and purple adamite. It is also probably the rarest, as very few blue scorodites were found. This showy and excellent specimen has numerous small vugs to 1.0 cm lined with gemmy, blue scorodite crystals to 2 mm in wedge-shaped limonite matrix. This piece is from the one-time find in 1981 and is highly representative of this very desirable species. Ex. George Elling Collection.
1.3 x 1.0 x 0.9 cm. A very sharp, FLOATER scorodite crystal from a BRAND NEW find in China! This dark purple, lustrous beauty has textbook orthorhombic form and is pristine. This is the FIRST new worldwide find of scorodites in many years! This is a major discovery and while the crystals are not gemmy, they are certainly significant for size and form.
2.4 x 1.7 x 1.7 cm. A lustrous, very sharp, 1.1 cm, scorodite crystal proudly projects upward from matrix on this specimen from a BRAND NEW find in China! This dark purple/indigo-blue beauty has elongated orthorhombic form and jauntily set on matrix with smaller scorodite crystals. This is the FIRST new worldwide find of scorodites in many years! This is a major discovery and while not gemmy, they are certainly significant for size and form.
1.1 x 0.9 x 0.8 cm. A very sharp scorodite crystal from a BRAND NEW find in China! This dark purple, lustrous beauty has textbook tetragonal form and is pristine. This is the FIRST new worldwide find of scorodites in many years! This is a major discovery and while not gemmy, they are certainly significant for size and form.
8.3 x 4.4 x 3.4 cm. An ochre colored, limonite matrix is literally covered on both sides by superb SHARP, ISOLATED crystals of glassy and gemmy, richly blue-colored scorodite, to .7 cm across. Only a few worldwide localities are noted for fine scorodite, a rare, hydrated iron arsenate. For this locale, it is quite rare and this would be considered an exceptional specimen among the best recovered from the mine and the country. It is from a small pocket found in 2005.
5.1 x 4.7 x 2.8 cm. Small but really SHARP pseudo-octahedral crystals to 3mm, somewhat translucent, on a nice-sized matrix. This is a rare locality piece from a long defunct locality! This is an old specimen from the John Ydren collection by way of the Burton Jirgl Collection (noted for his Japanese suite assembled in the 1950s).
3.4 x 2.2 x 1.5 cm. Gemmy, sharp scorodite crystals to 7 mm are nicely scattered on both sides of matrix on this specimen from a BRAND NEW find in China! These dark purple/indigo-blue beauties have textbook, elongated tetragonal form and are accented by brass-yellow sulfides. This is the FIRST new worldwide find of scorodites in many years! This is a major discovery and the gemmy specimens, such as this, were not that common. This is a highly representative piece from the lot, with isolated crystals.
1.4 x 1.2 x 1.1 cm. A very sharp scorodite crystal from a new find in China! This dark purple, lustrous beauty has textbook tetragonal form and is complete all-around.
3.7 x 3.1 x 2.7 cm. This fine miniature features razor sharp, lustrous crystals to just over 1 cm beautifully set upon a miniature-sized matrix of pyrite. The crystals have a slight purple sheen to the surface.
3.9 x 2.4 x 1.7 cm. This is a gemmy, translucent blue daisy-chain of intergrown sharp scorodite crystals, a floater complete all around.
3.5 x 2.9 x 2.4 cm. A sculptural, floater cluster of intergrown scorodite of several habits, including a sharp, symmetric "bipyramidal" crystal to 2 cm in the middle, and more "pseudocubic" crystals to 1.25 cm around the periphery. The crystals are not opaque, but when backlit a faint purple hue, and somewhat translucent. Lustre is high and reflective.
5.8 x 4.2 x 3.5 cm. This is one of the more colorful specimens, of classical blue scorodite compared to the purple and darker hues predominant at this locality. Crystals are glassy in lustre, sharp, and reach 9mm in size.
