8.4 x 5.4 x 3.4 cm. A very unusual combination specimen from the Erongo Mountains, known for its combinations of aquamarine, schorl and quartz. This specimen combined small, stacked crystals of schorl with transparent, bubbly tan-colored hyalite opal.

9.1 x 1.9 x 1.8 cm. This is an old-timer Montana smoky quartz crystal that came with an old Schortmanns label. You can see the sceptering at the lower end. The crystal is shot through with acicular crystals of schorl tourmaline. Ex. Richard Hauck Collection.

4.2 x 1.9 x 1.9 cm. An unusually large and fine crystal of aquamarine for Erongo. This crystal is transparent, with a fine luster and a wonderful glassy termination on top. Note the little accenting crystals of black schorl tourmaline, a common association from here. Weighs 25 grams.

Quartz (Var: Smoky Quartz), Schorl from Erongo Mountain, Usakos and Omaruru Districts, Erongo Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-197966a.jpg]

10.9 x 3.4 x 2.4 cm. A stunning, large crystal of smoky quartz from the Erongo Mountains, and distinguished by having schorl tourmaline crystals shooting through its interior. The crystal is doubly-terminated, and has a tabular crystal growing across one of its faces, making it even more interesting (seeing these two habits intergrown with one another on the same specimen, again very unusual for Erongo).

4.9 x 2.9 x 2.1 cm. A complete and terminated crystal of aquamarine from the Erongo Mountains, with about the typical transparency (transparent-to-translucent) for the aquamarines from this locality. Two crystals of black schorl tourmaline have grown across it, and there is some accenting feldspar as well.

Schorl from Santa Cruz, Mun. de Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico [db_pics/mdpics/MD-199462a.jpg]

11.0 x 7.2 x 4.9 cm. Nothing in the tourmaline kingdom comes remotely close to these absolutely bizarre specimens from Mexico. At this locality, slender schorl crystals grew in brushy bunches, radiating outwards from a central point of growth. At their best, they make quite striking specimens, such as this one - with rich sprays of the crystals, in pristine condition, on a field of small milky quartz crystals that cover matrix. The schorl crystals rise to about 2.5 cm above the matrix. They were found in the early 1990s. Ex. Dave Stoudt Collection.

3.8 x 1.9 x 1.4 cm. A compound, multiply-terminated crystal of aquamarine on matrix from the Erongo Mountains. This has good gemminess for Erongo. What is interesting about this specimen is how pretty the crystal looks set against the chunk of matrix. The black crystals are little schorls, a common association from here.

5.5 x 5.5 x 3.8 cm. Lustrous, translucent and frosted, emerald-green fluorite crystals with purple zoning are richly and attractively attached to the side of three, intergrown, highly lustrous, tapered, parallel-growth schorl crystals with a myriad of terminations from recent finds at Erongo Mountain, Namibia. This fine, complete-all-around, nearly pristine piece even has a couple of glassy, smoky quartz crystals embedded at the base on the other side. Excellent combination material from this famous locale.

4.2 x 4 x 3.4 cm. A sharp and fine cluster of super-lustrous blocky Schorls ranging up to 2 cm. This is the kind of luster and beauty that you expect from the best Schorls - mirror-like. Ex. Charlie Key.

6.7 x 6.7 x 5 cm. The lustrous Aquamarine is 5.5 cm long, with the upper 1.5 cm being very gemmy. The Aquamarine sits beautifully against two Microcline crystals and assorted lustrous Schorls. The crystal is big and gemmy and blue. Ex. Charlie Key.

Schorl, Quartz from Anita Mine (Magee Mine; Magee & Dougherty Mine; Sage Mine), Red Mountain, Cahuilla District, Riverside Co., California, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-20302a.jpg]

An exquisite and sharp quartz crystal that is terminated ALL AROUND and shaped more like a sphene than a quartz. It has rich inclusions of jet black schorl crystals running inside. One side is glassy and the other dull, but overall it is quite transparent. This unusual specimen is the only such I have seen, and was included in the collection because the mine is really in the same pegmatite belt, though in the adjacent county. A purchase made by Tim Sherburn from the late Pomona club show in 1995. 5 x 4 x 0.6 cm
