Scheelite, Fluorite, Quartz from Camp Bird Mine, Ouray, Sneffels District (Mount Sneffels District), Ouray Co., Colorado, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-76743a.jpg]

On a matrix of sugary-looking, white quartz are aesthetically perched, several, brown, lustrous, scheelite crystals, to 2.5 cm across. All the sparkly, sugar-like material from the halfway point of the piece down is a thin druse of colorless, beautiful, sparkling FLUORITE overlaying the qartz matrix and part of the scheelite pocket! The scheelites are supremely good for the locality and have a rich wet lustre to them! This is a spectacular specimen for the locality for both the size overall and the perch on quartz as you see it. Most unusual also, because of the fluorite association. A few scheelite crystals are even doubly terminated. Normally the Colorado scheelites do not do a lot for me, but this is special! Comes with base. 8 x 7.2 x 6.5 cm

This is a wonderful combination piece, with the clear to frosted Fluorites perched beautifully on the Scheelite. Not only are the Fluorites partially gemmy, but they contain a sharp narrow purple zone and included needles of what may be Ferberite. A very aesthetic and well-balanced thumbnail specimen, indeed. The locality is not only classic, but is long-defunct!

An incredibly rare, rich example of scheelite from this classic locality best kown for cassiterite , as long ago as 250 years. I have seen small, ugly, insignificant scheelite specimens in the past but none of this magnitude, and with such good documentation and pedigree in any case. It is much prettier in person, by the way. Note the old labels....he acquired this personally from Sir Russell who in turn acquired it from the collection of H.F. Collins (as noted on the Russell label included)

This is a massively large, and yet aesthetic, specimen of scheelite from the classic old locality of this tin mine. Scheelite from this location is highly desirable for its rarity and size, and yet extremely uncommon on the market today. It is probably 50 years or more out of the ground. The specimen features a single huge scheelite with attached quartz, purple fluorite clusters, and a small gem green fluorite cube at the lower-right. Most of these are so clunky and ugly, you don't think of them as display calibre, as opposed to "interesting reference pieces." This , though, is a notable exception and proven by the fact that Steve purchased it long ago...he collects classics only when they are as aesthetic as you could ask for, and remain in good shape. It has excellent display "horizons" and shows dramatically. The front and sides are pristine, the back contacted flatly where it had been growing against matrix in the past. It is hands down the best such example I have ever had for sale, and I have not marked it up from our trade price so I think it is a real bargain for the significance of what it is.

Perhaps my favorite overall specimen in the lot, this one features a SHARP crystal to 1.8 cm on edge, shooting off the matrix. It is complete, 3-dimensional, and terminated all around !

Each cluster here is about 3 cm tip to tip, perched atop a plate of contrasting quartz matrix for admirable display. The back of the scheelite clusters is contacted, but the display face is pristine and as good as those above - with bigger clusters of conjoined crystals! The reason this is lower in value by so much is thus not because of the rear contact, but because (and its hard to see unless you go looking), there is a cleave on the tip of the frontal crystal in the left cluster. Still, a lot of bang and richness for the $$$

This specimen features a starkly contrasted, sharp, freestanding, 2,75-cm long crystal (2.5 cm and 2.2 cm in depth and width). The crystal is complete all around and is extremely 3-dimensional, with (obviously) great aesthetics upon its perch!

A hefty, robust, floater cluster of intergrown large scheelites! This cluster is complete all around, though with a few minor contacts that seem to have rehealed (showing microcrystallized growth over perhaps a break or contact) in situ.

This is certainly an important Pakistani specimen, I would say, for the overall size and impact of the 5-cm crystal perched in a cluster. It is a hefty, robust specimen whose combination of pale orange color and oddly "soft" form make it distinct from Chinese material

This large compound crystal has many extra faces, from side growths, and so is very reflective and interesting in a case. Again, as with some others here, the size would make you think its from China but it really is not! The largest crystal is 3 cm as it looks on the front, though really i think this is all one single crystal with multiple outgrowths .

ex. Dr. Werner Paar Collection Scheelite is a rare associate in the Romanian polymetallic deposits. The Paar collection has several nice examples of this material, of which this is a VERY choice thumbnail! It is perfect all around (no damage) and shows an intense deep blue color when backlit. Many are just gray, this blue color being therefore highly desirable.
