I do not think there are more than a small handful of Arizona scheelites of such size out there, of ANY quality. This is a whomping huge crystal of the rare orange scheelite found in the 1940s and 1950s at this remote locality. This is one of the largest I have seen for sale. It is not complete, since it is contacted at the base and around the back (though it does still have crude faces back there), but it DOES display a nice upper-front side and shows numerous crystal faces there. It is large and dramatic, and an important addition to any Southwest collection! 6.1 x 6 x 5.1 cm
Translucent, extremely lustrous, rich orange, pseudo-octahedral crystals of scheelite, are intergrown, forming an aesthetic specimen. All terminations are present, rarely seen in these beautiful scheelites from China. The largest crystal measures 3.5 cm across. The piece is actually a floater: completely crysatllized, if irregular in growth, even on the backside! 5.9 x 5.3 x 2.4 cm
A showy and excellent, old-time combination piece from Zinnwald, Czech Republic of lustrous, light taupe scheelite crystals to 4 mm attached to lustrous, silvery, platy zinnwaldite books on massive quartz. Zinnwaldite is a discredited mica species, first described from Zinnwald. The scheelite crystals are arranged particularly nicely on the zinnwaldite books. The piece comes with a Hugh Ford label, a prominent United States dealer from the 1920s to early 1950s. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 7.5 x 6.2 x 5.3 cm
An incredibly rare, rich example of scheelite from this classic locality best kown for cassiterite , as long ago as 250 years. I have seen small, ugly, insignificant scheelite specimens in the past but none of this magnitude, and with such good documentation and pedigree in any case. It is much prettier in person, by the way. Note the old labels....he acquired this personally from Sir Russell who in turn acquired it from the collection of H.F. Collins (as noted on the Russell label included) 9 x 6 x 4.1 cm
A big (6 cm tip-to-tip!), orange scheelite on matrix, in pristine condition. The tip facing towards you on the display face is GEMMY! The color and lustre overall is medium, but the price is definitely right for a crystal of such size, perfection, and symmetry on matrix. 11 x 6.5 x 6.5 cm
An aesthetic and striking CABINET plate covered with glassy, water-clear, quartz needles to 1.7 cm, small muscovite crystals and three, lustrous, translucent, honey-brown scheelite crystals to 8 mm from the recent finds at the Yaogangxian Mine of China. This bright scheelite color is not typical of Yaogangxian and this fine piece has many display possibilities. Essentially pristine. 11.4 x 7.5 x 2.0 cm
A VERY unusual combo specimen, even with the profusion of specimens from China – this is a lustrous, sharp, 2.2-cm scheelite crystal sitting on a plate of light green (the color didn’t come out) fluorite cubes measuring to 2 cm on edge. A tiny bit of edge wear in one spot on the scheelite that you have to look closely to see – other than that, this specimen is in great shape! Note this is NOT from the common locality of Yaoganxian. these are much more uncommon 10.5 x 7.8 x 3 cm
A PRISTINE, partially gemmy, lustrous, amber to gray scheelite octohedron from the famous Taewha Mine in South Korea. The upper, amber portion of the octohedron is gemmy, as the backlit photo highlights. Taewha scheelites were long considered to be the world"s finest, until recently. This is a VERY CHOICE specimen from Taewha. EXCELLENT white fluorescence. 2.0 x 1.5 x 1.5 cm
Translucent, lustrous, pseudo-octahedral crystals of orange scheelite, to 1.0 cm across, are nestled among colorless, transparent, quartz crystals, the longest of which measures almost 3 cm. This is from a new find in Pakistan, which I got ahold of recently! I have not seen others for sale, at least as of this time. NOTE: THIS IS NOT the same locality as previously known for Pakistani scheelite. 8.1 x 5 x 3.3 cm
This is a new Asian deposit for scheelite. At this early stage of development it is difficult to know whether the scheelite crystals will ever grow as large and as fine as those from China. On this specimen a single, lustrous, orange scheelite crystal measuring 1.2 cm across, is perched on top of glassy, colorless quartz crystals, to 1.5 cm in length. 7.9 x 6.2 x 4.5 cm
A cluster of orange, lustrous, translucent scheelite crystals, to 1.3 cm across, sit on matrix among colorless, lustrous, gemmy crystals of quartz, to 1.5 cm in length. 9.3 x 4.0 x 2.9 cm
This piece features several, brownish-orange, lustrous, translucent, scheelite crystals, to 1.6 cm across, which have crystallized in and among acicular, glassy, colorless quartz crystals to 2.0 cm in length. 6.6 x 5.2 x 4.1 cm
A sharp and gemmy, golden-amber scheelite crystal with a small bit of matrix from Mt. Xuebaoding, China. This beautiful crystal is complete all-around, and the one corner ding is barely noticeable. The backlit photo highlights the color intensity and gemmyness. Excellent white fluorescence. 2.5 x 2.4 x 2.3 cm
A major showpiece Chinese combo specimen, combining a big, fine scheelite crystal with fine tabular aquamarines! This specimen has a LUSTROUS, SHARP, UNDAMAGED orange scheelite crystal nestled amongst the bladed muscovite crystals. On the other end of the specimen is a group of gemmy, tabular aquamarines, to 4 cm across(!). Only one of the crystals has a contact on the back side where the specimen was against the matrix rock (the bottom was sawn flat to remove the specimen from the host rock). The aquas have attractive "pebbly" faces and window-clear edges into the gemmy interiors. 17.7 x 11.0 x 6.7 cm
This is easily one of the finest and largest scheelite specimens, for sale, ever found in Arizona. Probably found in the 1930-40’s, this composite specimen has two, large, translucent crystals, to 6.0 cm in length. But the single, most compelling characteristic is its almost neon, glowing reddish- orange color, which rivals the most deeply saturated scheelites from China. AND THE SIZE! IT WEIGHS ABOUT THREE POUNDS! There is even a colorless, lustrous quartz crystal, 4.0 cm in length, on top right corner of the specimen. It is complete on the front and back sides, with only a few nicks and some minor asymmetries. Only on the front far left side is there any real damage. But this is overwhelmed by the sheer magnificence of the specimen! This piece, for impact in both context of natural history and sheer gutbusting beauty and color, is important! I asked Les and Evan how they would rank this and both basically felt that they between them have three of the top pieces known, of which this is one (and the bigger). 8.8 x 8.0 x 6.3 cm
