Scheelite from Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang Co., Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-19021a.jpg]

Sharp, moss-green translucent scheelites to just under one centimeter are all across the face of this large quartz crystal matrix. Some of them have pyrite growing on and around them. These are much less familiar (and less common) than the orange scheelites from Ping Wu. 12 x 11 x 8 cm

Apatite, Scheelite, Cubanite, Magnesite from Morro Velho mine (incl. Mina Velha; Mina Grande), Nova Lima, Iron Quadrangle, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-204051b.jpg]

4.3 x 3.7 x 2.6 cm. A rare, interesting, and fine combination specimen from the Morro Velho gold mine of Brazil. Most of this fine miniature is composed of gemmy, very glassy, hexagonal, parallel-growth, light pastel-pink apatite crystals. Lustrous, hexagonal, cubanite plates to 6 mm are richly peppered about and there are also a few lustrous, glassy, colorless. Nail-head magnesite rhombs to 1.9 cm on the fringe. The real highlight of this combination is the two yellow-orange scheelite crystals. The large, euhedral, 1.3 cm scheelite is hidden on one end and even though it is partially contacted, it is significant. Ex. Michael Jactat Collection, a French dealer and collector, who was active in Brazil at the time and collected fine miniatures for his own collection.

8.9 x 6.2 x 2.6 cm. Scheelite is a rare associate in the Romanian polymetallic deposits. The Paar collection has several nice examples of this material, of which this is a superb larger specimen (not so common), and with crystallized calcite matrix. The crystals reach 1.1 cm in size (1.1 and 0.9 cm) and are pristine on the front display faces as shown (although each is contacted on the edge facing to left or right). They show an intense deep blue color when backlit. Ex. Dr. Werner Paar Collection.

A beautiful crystal that has outstanding brilliant color and glassy luster - exactly what you expect from your scheelite. It is three-quarters-complete including all the front faces. If you want one reasonable in price, and one to be proud of, this would be a good choice as it displays well and costs relatively little for the quality. 3.6 x 2.8 x 2.5 cm

8.7 x 6.8 x 4.4 cm. The Tae Wha mine in Korea has produced some very attractive Tungsten minerals. The Scheelites from this mine are some of the most classic for the species. This specimen hosts a few large, sharp, lustrous, well-formed, purplish color crystals of Scheelite which are associated with an accenting Quartz crystal. The largest Scheelite crystal measures 6.7 cm on edge.

Scheelite from Camp Bird Mine, Ouray, Sneffels District (Mount Sneffels District), Ouray Co., Colorado, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-221273a.jpg]

2.5 x 2.5 x 2.4 cm. In the late 1970's-early 1980's, the Camp Bird mine produced some very characteristic Scheelite specimens. These crystals have an easily recognizable brownish hue (with slight golden overtones). Most of these Scheelite crystals will fluoresce a bright blue-white color under SW UV light. This single crystal shows good pyramidal tetragonal form with above average luster, and sharp faces. From the King Stope, Level 5. Ex. Jaime Bird Collection.

Scheelite from Mt Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-224167a.jpg]

6.2 x 4.4 x 3.3 cm. This well-balanced small cabinet is from a small find on the "other side of the mountain" from the former main adits to the Ping Wu mines, on Mt Xuebaoding in the Panda Preserve of Sichuan Province. The crystals are distinctly distorted into fat triangular shapes more slim in one dimension, than equant and octahedral as we normally expect in scheelite. These crystals are to 2 cm in size, and are incredibly gemmy in the terminations.

Scheelite, Dolomite, Pyrite from Baia Sprie (Felsöbánya), Maramures Co., Romania [db_pics/mdpics/MD-224178b.jpg]

7.7 x 4.8 x 3.7 cm. Scheelite is a rare associate in the Romanian polymetallic deposits. This is a superb specimen with a huge crystal for the locality of about 1.5 cm. It is perfect all around (no damage) and shows an intense deep blue color when backlit. Many are just gray, this blue color being therefore highly desirable. Also, the size of the crystal, and the balanced association, make this a particularly beautiful specimen.

Pricey, I admit (and i am making just 20% here because I paid a lot for it myself) but it IS truly one of the very best and sharpest and largest and most lustrous examples of these rare bluish scheelites I have yet seen, with excellent display qualities as a specimen. Although small compared to scheelite from China , these Romanian pieces represent one of the few other contemporary localities for the species in high quality and are much more uncommon. Trimmed, this could be one hell of a thumbnail, too... 3.7 x 3 x 0.9 cm

Fluorite, Scheelite, Calcite, Quartz from Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang Co., Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-235484a.jpg]

11.3 x 9.1 x 5.2 cm. This fluorite cluster is 6 cm across and looks like a floating city, impaling itself on the quartz. The freestanding fluorite is complete all around the top and sides, only contacted a little on the lower backside. It is translucent, and pristine on all the faces. The sharp steppes are highlighted by a thin, intense purple phantom at all edges. The fluorite is perched on the quartzes, which are also totally pristine and perfect. A sprinkling of sharp brown, translucent scheelite octahedra, mixed with small bladed white calcites, overlays the rear of the quartz terminations and the valleys between the quartz and the fluorite itself. Scheelite, of course, is quite rare for this mine. Found in 2006.

8.8 x 7.3 x 5.8 cm. This fluorite cluster is 5.8 cm across and looks like a floating city, perched atop the quartz. The freestanding fluorite is complete all around the top, sides, and the back, only contacted on a tiny portion of the bottom/rear of the specimen. It is translucent, and pristine on all the faces. The sharp steppes are highlighted by a thin, intense purple phantom at all edges. The fluorite "city" is standing upon a massive fluorite base which adheres to and extends between the two quartzes - which are also totally pristine and perfect. A sprinkling of sharp brown, translucent scheelite octahedra sparkles on the backside of the quartz. Scheelite, of course, is quite rare for this mine. Found in 2006.

3.6 x 3.5 2.0 cm. Sharp phantom edge lines make these crystals dramatic. Each is about 1.3 cm. The sparkling brown crystals are sharp scheelite octahedra, rare for this locality in association with fluorite.

Scheelite, Microcline, Muscovite from Beryl-Scheelite deposit, Huya village, Mt Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-23653a.jpg]

This specimen features four sizeable scheelite crystals, the largest 3 cm across, with a gemmy tip you could cut a stone from! The scheelites are attractively intergrown with euhedral microcline crystals, making for a nice contrast. The lustre is not the best, but the color is decent and the size is impressive. 12 x 9 x 5 cm
