4.7 x 3.5 x 3.1 cm. This is large crystal has a deep, royal purple color. The color is like grape jelly. The crystal is fully terminated with a steep termination showing lustre and even more intense color.
2.2 x 1.7 x 1.6 cm. This is a superb, gemmy thumbnail specimen. The piece is totally transparent and has good color made a little less intense by the transparency as internal veils serve to magnify the color in other pieces.
2.8 x 2.6 x 1.9 cm. A new find of intensely purple scapolite from this remote part of Afghanistan. The crystals range from transparent (rarely) to translucent, and are intensely purple. This is a gemmy, lustrous thumbnail crystal.
3.0 x 3.0 x 2.4 cm. A new find of intensely purple scapolite from this remote part of Afghanistan. The crystals range from transparent (rarely) to translucent, and are intensely purple. This is a gemmy, lustrous miniature crystal. Much more gemmy and bright, in person, in fact.
5.9 x 2.8 x 2.7 cm. Scapolite from Tanzania has a unique, beautiful golden color and excellent crystal form which is so absent in other golden-colored scapolites from Brazil. Rarely, they also occur in this large size. This impressive gem crystal is totally transparent and is hefty at 77 grams. It is lustrous, and has a rich amber-yellow color that is consistent throughout the crystal.
0.9 x 0.6 x 0.4 cm, 0.6 x 0.2 x 0.2 cm, 0.4 x 0.4 x 0.2 cm, 0.4 x 0.3 x 0.2 cm. These four little gem crystals are from an exciting find a couple of years back in China, of gemmy purple scapolite. All four crystals are terminated and absolutely transparent from top to bottom.
6.1 x 6.1 x 4.5 cm. An old-time, uncommon specimen of gray-brown and rust-red albite pseudomorphs after two, sharp, side-by-side scapolite crystals nicely nestled in a matrix vug. This unusual, old-time pseudomorph is from the Louis Zara Collection.
3.9 x 2.7 x 2.6 cm. A beautiful, sharp, gemmy and lustrous, 1.0 cm ruby crystal set in a vug in starkly contrasting marble and accented with scapolite crystals. This superb ruby has textbook, octahedral form, a riveting, stepped-growth face and vivid, magenta color. A classic ruby specimen from Mogok.
1.2 x 0.7 x 0.5 cm (largest). A fine set of four gem crystals of the best purple scapolites ever found, from recent mining in China. All four are terminated and gemmy from top to bottom. Total weight is 5 carats.
3.3 x 2.3 x 1.7 cm. A deeply purple scapolite among the most intense colors seen from this region (most are a pale lavender hue), that is a cluster of 2 crystals, complete-all-around. It is very lustrous and bright, glassy on the surfaces, more so than it appears here. Ex. Laura and Stevia Thompson Collection.
3.2 x 3.1 x 2.4 cm. Although it does not exhibit classic crystal form, this ruby does have an unusual color zoning, where the periphery is more deeply colored in classic ruby red outlining around a slightly lavender-hued center. It is on massive, gemmy scapolite matrix...the ruby so transparent that the underlying scapolite is easily discernible. This is a fascinating corundum specimen. Ex. William Larson Collection.
5.8 x 4.2 x 3.2 cm. An old-time, very rare, combination specimen from a classic New York locale - Olmstedville, Essex County. Sharp and lustrous, cream-colored scapolite crystals richly cover the starkly contrasting, lustrous, black, vesuvianite matrix. The sharp, doubly terminated scapolite crystal is 1.9 cm. Very seldom available. Ex. Dennis Mullane Collection and comes with an older, 1950s-60s, Burminco label.
9.5 x 5.0 x 4.4 cm. A huge scapolite crystal from a very uncommon locale - the pegmatites of the Manang District, Nepal. This sharply crystallized, doubly-terminated, mottled brown to gray crystal is lustrous and translucent. One termination is a pyramid and the other is a pinacoid. This remains one of the largest, sharply crystallized scapolite crystals that I have seen from any worldwide locality. Super representative for the species and very rare for the locale. I acquired this through academic contacts and the locale is, I am sure, quite legitimate. Weighs 396 grams.
A rare specimen with large crystals of this rare scapolite varietal, ON MATRIX! It is an exceptional piece for these new finds. 5.5 x 3.4 x 2.7 cm
On a matrix of unterminated scapolite crystals, is aesthetically perched a 4.5 cm terminated, translucent purplish-pink scapolite crystal. Aside from the great aesthetics, it possesses a high degree of luster. Pieces like this are quite unusual for the species. 7.7 x 6.7 x 6.4 cm
