D10-33 - Salesite - $ 1200 SOLD Chuquicamata Mine, Calama, Antofagasta Region, Chile (TYPE LOCALITY) small cabinet, 8.0 x 3.9 x 3.4 cm ex. Al Ordway
Like many of the extremely beautiful and rare Chuqui minerals, this species occurs ONLY in this mining district. It is a copper hydroxide of seemingly simple makeup, but obviously not so simple as it is very rare in nature. Relatively large crystals, to 1 mm, 3-dimensionally mounded up on matrix to create a beautiful display face. This is one of the larger and prettier examples out of only several specimens I have seen for sale over several decades of looking. They simply do not turn up very often, and it remains one of the hardest copper species to obtain for the collector.
