3.7 x 2.8 x 2.3 cm
7.1 x 5.3 x 3.7 cm. There were VERY few specimens of this magnitude in the pocket, and I would say this one is CLEARLY one of the best. Others, who were there at the time, agree. It features the best color, deeper than others here; and crystals to 1.7 cm in length spraying out from a central and protected vug. It is also large, as most specimens from this find were 4 cm and smaller (if of any quality). It is a piece that just GLOWS in a showcase when well lit, and will add a most unusual pink-red color to any collection. Compared to the 1991 material, this holds its own and I think blows away anything found in 1998 for style and overall quality.
2.6 x 2.5 x 2.3 cm
4.9 x 3.7 x 2.7 cm
5.7 x 4.8 x 4.7 cm. A SUPERB, GEM, 1.2 x 1.1 cm, cherry-red rhodonite crystal beautifully upright on matrix of splendent galena and cleaved rhodonite crystals from Broken Hill. This PRISTINE, complete all-around beauty is the ULTIMATE Broken Hill Holy Grail species. Lustrous, pocket-grown rhodonite crystals like this are super rare, and date from before WWII for the most part. This specimen is 1 in a 1000, from what I have seen of the material over the years. Ex. George Elling Collection.
4.8 x 4.2 x 1.7 cm. DISCRETE, ISOLATED, gemmy, cherry-red rhodonite crystals on a beautifully contrasting snow-white matrix specimen from the NEW FIND in Brazil. Discrete crystals are RARE. The sharp, bladed crystal is 1.8 cm. The large, blocky crystal is 1.7 cm. A few of the rhodonite crystals are pristine, but most are contacted or are cleavages. This remains a VERY SHOWY, HIGHLY REPRESENTATIVE and excellent specimen for the species and it is not from Broken Hill. This piece is particularly aesthetic.
10.9 x 10.9 x 9.4 cm. A large specimen featuring a rich vein of deep salmon-colored rhodonite, from the Wein Collection, which was heavy on Alpine rarities. The rhodonite is in a dark, manganese-rich matrix. Heavy, massive, basically ore…but rare for the locale!
4.2 x 2.4 x 2.4 cm. Bright pink, elongated, bladed crystals of rhodonite, always highly valued when well-crystallized - from Peru. A super miniature.
2.9 x 2.6 x 1.7 cm. A very sharp, tabular, rose-red toenail rhodonite crystal from the famous Franklin Mine of New Jersey. This lustrous and translucent beauty has textbook crystal form and a sharp beveled termination. The rhodonite behind it is sharply euhedral, also. Highly representative of the species and famous locality and not diminished by the contacting on the right side. Perfect Franklin rhodonites of this size are very rare. Ex. Carl Davis Collection.
4.4 x 4.2 x 1.6 cm. A gemmy, mostly euhedral, shimmering deep cherry-red rhodonite specimen from the NEW FIND in Brazil. There is contacting, but this remains a very showy, highly representative and excellent specimen for the species and it is not from Broken Hill. This piece is particularly rich, showy and has nice form.
4.4 x 3.2 x 2.3 cm. A fine rhodonite specimen. It has highly lustrous faces and sharp, 3-dimensional crystals. The major crystal is 3.1 cm across, and has a bevelled termination that curves back.
5.1 x 3.7 x 1.5 cm. A beautiful, cherry-red cluster of extremely sharp crystals arranged diagonally, with good gemminess and clean pure color. The piece is extremely translucent even with only moderate backlighting and is dramatic for its "mountain-scape" geometry. All the "peaks" are pristine and terminated.
5.4 x 3.0 x 1.8 cm. This is a robust, thick, composite cluster with fat crystals of a pure cherry red color. They are all translucent, and when backlit this positively glows. Even in normal lighting, it is translucent at edges.
7.7 x 3.2 x 2.8 cm. A stunning, very large piece with good crystal form. It is extremely translucent to transparent at the edges. Even despite the thickness (1 inch), it is a pure cherry color and very translucent throughout. This cluster has one fat crystal as a base, that is 1 inch thick and tapers to a point. The sidecar crystal is about 3.5 cm long and slender.
5.5 x 2.4 x 1.2 cm. A fine miniature with sharp geometric form composed of several intergrown crystals. The piece is a pure cherry-red color with no brown.
