7.2 x 6.1 x 5.4 cm. Most Brandberg amethysts are standalone crystals, so the ones on matrix, particularly those that sit so AESTHETICALLY on the matrix, are quite prized by collectors and command good money. We shot this under normal light, but under a good case or show light it absolutely lights up and glows! The crystal is pristine, with a silky luster and no contacts. An EXCEPTIONAL Brandberg piece! Now in Joseph Polityka collection.
6.6 x 5.9 x 2.6 cm. Faden quartzes from Pakistan are now fairly well distributed due to a find a few years back, but the Swiss ones are very hard to get your hands on. Not to be confused with gwindels, though somewhat similar in form, these strange compound crystals are distinguished by the fuzzy "faden line" that runs through the center of the crystals, with the crystals growing out from this point in either direction to terminate in a row along either side. This one is undamaged and complete all around.
4.5 x 2.2 x 1.4 cm. These orange quartzes from Dalnegorsk are rare and sought-after by collectors. This one features three tightly intergrown crystals rising elegantly, with just a bit of accenting matrix. All terminations are complete. Rare material, from about 6-7 years ago now.
5.6 x 1.4 x 0.7 cm. The quartz-on-chrysocollas from Arizona have always been prized by collectors, for their beautiful color and the sheen given them by the overlying quartz. When they form actual stalactites, such as in the case of this specimen, they are very highly sought-after. This is such an elegant mini -- with three spires rising dramatically side-by-side. They are perfect and undamaged - with gorgeous robins-egg blue color.
7.0 x 3.2 x 2.3 cm. An EXCELLENT, pristine and complete all-around smoky quartz scepter on an amethyst stem. The mostly transparent scepter has beautiful edge shading and even has purple, interior highlights. This is a really good Goboboseb Mountains specimen, with a very sharp scepter. Ex. Charlie Key stock.
4.1 x 2.9 x 0.8 cm. A REALLY CUTE and aesthetic, faden quartz crystal cluster from a recent, small Pakistan find. Doubly terminated, tabular, flattened, glassy, water-clear quartz crystals are attached to a chlorite-covered faden or "string". A very showy, textbook and pristine piece. The chlorite-covered faden is uncommon and very fine.
7.2 x 2.0 x 1.5 cm. A pristine and glassy, hexagonal amethyst obelisk with a HUGE, 4 mm, movable bubble. In fact, there is a second, smaller, movable bubble partially hidden below it. The complex, pyramidal termination is nifty in itself. A VERY FINE Goboboseb Mountains specimen.
4.2 x 3.9 x 3.3 cm. A visually striking, transparent, polished quartz crystal with really neat, layered or chevron-shaped chlorite inclusions. Rotating this showy piece gives an ever-changing interior view! The piece is from a city made famous by high quality quartz crystal diggings - Corinto, Minas Gerais. Ex. Marty Lewadny Collection.
3.2 x 2.8 x 2.3 cm. Ajoite is a VERY RARE copper-related silicate. This is a KILLER, UNPOLISHED, natural quartz crystal that displays RICH zones of concentrated, turquoise-blue ajoite inclusions that you can ask for, and is about the most ajoite I have ever seen in one crystal. Truly an exceptional miniature by ANY standard for the collector of all things quartz, copper or South African. This super piece is from a RECENT, very small find from the famous Messina Mine of South Africa, source of the VERY BEST ajoite-included quartz crystals. The trivial bit of termination edge wear and a contacted face on the back of the termination are noted, but certainly not a visual detraction to this gorgeous and unique specimen.
18.0 x 14.3 x 6.0 cm. A DRAMATIC and SIGNIFICANT, two-sided, LARGE CABINET specimen from the famous Grizzly Bear Mine, near Ouray, Colorado. This HISTORIC, OLD-TIMER has 11, frosted, light pink rhodochrosite rhombs to 4.1 cm, nicely scattered on a partially hollow, two-sided crust of needle quartz crystals. The backside has 3 rhodo crystals. AMAZINGLY, this huge piece is essentially pristine, except along the contacted periphery! Specimens of this size and quality are almost NEVER available from the Grizzly Bear Mine. Ex. Stoudt Collection.
3.2 x 3.2 x 2.3 cm. This specimen is a great piece consisting of a super quality, sharp, gemmy, highly lustrous, prismatic, purple "reverse" scepter crystal of Amethyst measuring to 1.4 cm sitting atop white/colorless, sharp, lustrous, modified scalenohedra of Calcite on underlain forest-green color "Chlorite" on matrix. This piece is remarkable for Bolivia as it is from an "Alpine-type" locality, and features a type of crystallization that is virtually unheard of from Bolivia. This is one of the better pieces from the find for quality, aesthetics and overall appeal.
7.2 x 4.5 x 3.3 cm. These new Chinese Rhodos have made a big splash on the market in the last year or so. The specimens associated with Quartz and sulfides (like this one) really remind me of specimens I’ve seen from various mines in Colorado. If this Rhodo were from the Sweet Home mine, it would be a great treasure for many Colorado collectors, although the habit would be incorrect. This piece actually resembles the habit of Rhodochrosite found at the Eagle mine, but on a matrix that resembles the Sweet Home mine. It features hundreds of sharp, semi lustrous, pink, flattened rhomobohedra of Rhodochrosite associated with minor blood-red Hubnerite sitting on attractive Quartz crystals on sulfide matrix.
4.7 x 4.6 x 2.7 cm. SHARP tennanite crystals of about an inch, covered with gorgeous sparkling quartz, make this unusual in that it’s not your typical gray-black tennantite but something visually more appealing! Complete on front and sides, contacted only in back. Ex. Charlie Key stock.
Wow! pics say it all, eh? 3-dimensional, complete, and just a smoker... 4.6 x 4.5 x 3.1 cm
You do not normally think of prehnite in and of itself as a top class mineral specimen, because the crystals don't usually get big and isolated. Well, they do from here! This 3 cm , translucent, pear-green ball on matrix just blows me away! It has to be one of the most aesthetic prehnites I have seen, in this size! 4.6 x 4.4 x 3.0 cm All Content and Design ©1996-2012 The ArkenstonePowered by http://mineralwebsites.comMineral Specimens by species; or by specimen id. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
