14.2 x 9.4 x 6.4 cm. A NEW find at the prolific and always interesting Daye Mine - though very few specimens have appeared. Here is a razor-sharp and gemmy amethyst sceptred crystal, about 3 cm in height and across the termination, isolated on a bed of quartz crystals. Some of the quartz crystals have a slight purple blush; some of them are arranged in interesting bursts from a central point, as well.
4.9 x 2.2 x 1.0 cm. Kyanites are usually seen as opaque and rather boring crystals embedded in quartz. Every now and then, however, you get a Gem such as this one, which is sticking up off of a natural base of quartz.
6.4 x 4.5 x 4.4 cm. An EXCELLENT, VERY SHOWY and old-time Butte rhodochrosite specimen with the added pazzazz of a rosette of quartz crystals on one end. The sharp, rose-red rhombs, to 2.2 cm, have good lustre and the only damage to the rhombs is on the periphery. Most likely from the Emma or Travona Mines. Very fine material from the Richard Hauck Collection.
9.9 x 6.7 x 4.0 cm. Goosecreekite is an ULTRA-RARE zeolite and this very showy Nasik combination specimen has a nice cluster of discrete, snow-white goosecreekite crystals on sparkly quartz-covered basalt matrix. The 3.3 cm radiating spray of lustrous, tan stilbite blades is a beautiful accent. Ex. George Feist Collection # 1256.
10.8 x 7.4 x 7.4 cm. A SIMPLY STUNNING, one-of-a-kind tourmaline and quartz CABINET specimen from Stak Nala. The tourmalines have SUPER gemmy terminations, unusual for Stak Nala tourmalines. The doublet tourmaline in the front is the RARE and desirable, pink varietal. The huge milky quartz is highly lustrous, has a razor-sharp termination, front and back, with only the slightest edge wear. The white, bladed cleavelandite is a very nice accent. There is even a tiny, orange spessartine garnet to add color. Almost certainly a 1980s piece.
3.8 x 3.1 x 2.3 cm. Two, splendent, thin tabular, hexagonal molybdenite crystals beautifully set in milky quartz matrix from a classic Quebec locality - Moly Hill. Classic crystal form and aesthetic composition on this fine piece from the John Fender Collection.
21.2 x 11.5 x 4.9 cm. This find of sharp octahedrons of fluorite in quartz about 3 years ago in China caused a big stir. The crystals range from purple to a combination of purple and green hues. This plate is rich with sharp, dark purple crystals to 2 cm, on the typical starkly contrasting thin sheet of quartz (they actually have to be etched out of this quartz after mining). This mining is FINISHED - any specimens you see now are from previous stockpiles.
16.5 x 11.6 x 6.6 cm. A large, showy specimen, a partial vug coated with dove-grey to white crystalline quartz, featuring in the center a glowing, gemmy, razor-sharp calcite measuring 3 cm, with a golden-brown color. The quartz has formed little stalactitic fingers, adding to the attractiveness of the matrix. The calcite is pristine, and really glows! Next to the calcite is an accenting quartz formation that balances it nicely.
9.5 x 5.5 x 2.9 cm. These orthoclase crystals are very sharp, and of a modest size rather than big and clunky, which creates a very aesthetic balance with the smokies. The smokies here have GLASSY luster - very fine quality. One of them has flattened form and is sandwiched inside an orthoclase crystal!
7.4 x 5.6 x 4.0 cm. A plate of salmon-colored crystallized rhodo from a CLASSIC old locality, the Emma Mine in Butte. These old rhodos pop up only now and then on the market, usually one at a time, as they are released from collections. The rhodo here is intermixed with little quartz prisms.
6.6 x 2.4 x 2.4 cm. A very glassy and gemmy quartz crystal, terminated on one end, that provides a perfect window to the shimmering, golden acicular crystals of rutile shooting through its interior.
5.3 x 5.2 x 2.8 cm. As you can see, this is an absolutely TEXTBOOK crystal of topaz, pristine, with perfect symmetry. It is 1.5 cm in height, and it is wrapped by the termination of a milky euhedral quartz crystal. There is some bladed accenting albite as well.
8.6 x 6.5 x 4.1 cm. A stark white, prickly ball of okenite sits on a backdrop of amethyst crystals, with some accenting little clear calcites. A smaller okenite ball is nearby. The larger okenite ball measures 2.7 cm across. A striking and aesthetic Indian specimen with unusually stout okenites!
10.2 x 8.6 x 8.4 cm. A complete, doubly-terminated, 9-cm crystal of golden calcite perched dramatically at the edge of the matrix. The crystal has fine luster, and no damage; one of the terminations has wrapped itself around a bit of the matrix rock, but is complete. This specimen was mined in 1992.
9.9 x 9.9 x 7.5 cm. Intensely bright, gemmy and lustrous crystals of apophyllite decorate a cluster of translucent, mossy green chalcedony. This specimen has an other-worldy, exotic appearance!
