18.9 x 9.2 x 5.3 cm. A large and extremely rich specimen of tetrahedrite from the famous Hedgehog Pocket at the Sweet Home! This specimen is notable for the beautiful separation between the tetrahedrites (which measure to about 1.3 cm) nestled in a field of sharp, translucent-to-transparent quartz crystals. On the underside of the specimen are a few little patches of massive pink rhodochrosite, marking its origin.
Stannite is a rare sulfide of copper, iron and tin. It is collected mainly in not very pretty specimens, as simply a rare and desirable mineral - but on uncommon occasions, you find a specimen that is actually aesthetic as well, like this one. There is a LOT of stannite here, as well as sparing light purple fluorite. But what makes this specimen so good is that the stannite has grown towards the bottom of an elegant, translucent, complete and terminated quartz crystal.
8.4 x 7.4 x 2.7 cm. This find a little over a year ago (finished now) really stirred things up for awhile. Amethyst is not common from China, so miners were delighted to find these plates of lustrous, beautiful crystals with crystals of deep moss-green EPIDOTE sprinkled over them! This one has a beautiful balance of the little green epidotes with the purple amethyst as backdrop.
9.9 x 7.7 x 4.7 cm. Delicate caramel and amber earth tones make this large agate nodule from Oregon extremely attractive. The label describes it as citrine, which technically it is, since that is the description of quartz with this color tone. Under strong light, the whole interior lights up a beautiful golden color. There is a little quartz-lined pocket at its center. Polished to bring out its beauty.
8.4 x 6.2 x 4.2 cm. The abundant prehnites coming from Mali should not make you immune to other localities from which good specimens are more rare and difficult to obtain. This one is just wonderful, with a beautiful mix of light sea-foam green, translucent prehnite with gemmy quartz crystals.
8.7 x 7.5 x 6.5 cm. A SUPERB and AESTHETIC specimen of a jagged "mountain range" of sharp, highly lustrous, black, smoky quartz crystals preferentially draped (like snow) with lustrous, colorless, nail-head calcite crystals from Akchatau, Kazakhstan. Ex George Elling Collection.
2.2 x 2.1 x 1.7 cm. An AESTHETIC and CLASSIC Chamonix, France thumbnail of a gemmy, rose-red fluorite octahedron jauntily perched on a glassy, serrated-edge, smoky quartz crystal. A pristine and beautiful specimen.
4.0 x 3.5 x 3.4 cm. A lustrous, 3.3 cm, dark green emerald crystal nicely set in quartz matrix from Brumado. MATRIX Brumado emeralds are RARE. One end is nicely terminated, while the other end is partially terminated and partially contacted. Here is your chance to get a matrix emerald from a renowned locality. These are VERY SELDOM on any market and this showy piece is from the Gene Meieran Collection, famous for his beryl collection.
5.7 x 4 x 4.5 cm. Lovely cluster of lustrous and gemmy Amethyst crystals, the largest of which is 3.4 cm. The terminations are lightly zoned, which adds even more to the beauty of the piece. The crystals are pristine, and not only is the specimen complete all the way around, but there is good visual separation between the crystals, which adds even more to the aesthetics. A terrific Veracruz! Ex. Steve Smale Collection.
5.9 x 4.5 x 1.7 cm. Stunning FLOATER cluster of superb Smoky Quartz crystals. Each and every crystal is gemmy with terrific luster, and is doubly-terminated. Save for just one ding, every crystal is also pristine. The largest Smoky is 3 cm in length. Ex. Steve Smale Collection.
5.7 x 4.5 x 4.3 cm. Lovely and classic single Fluorapophyllite sitting majestically on a bed of fine straw-like Quartz. This beautiful mint-green crystal, 2.3 cm long, is gemmy and lustrous, exactly what you would expect from the best of this famous location. Ex. Steve Smale Collection.
12.2 x 3 x 2.4 cm. Simple and elegant single Quartz stalactite populated with more than a dozen lovely Apophyllites, the largest of which is 2.3 cm. Each Apophyllite is gemmy and highly lustrous. Most are doubly terminated - some with points, some with very fine chisel-points (cleaved or natural - not sure, but still razor-sharp and attractive). Ex. Steve Smale Collection.
7.9 x 6.3 x 5.8 cm. Excellent 4.7 cm single Smoky on graphic granite. The luster is very good, and the color is the deep brown that you always hope for. Combine that with the fine gemminess, and this can hardly be beat. Ex. Steve Smale Collection.
6 x 5.8 x 3 cm. Very fine cluster of large gemmy Apophyllites perched on two slender Quartz stalactites. Very unusual. The Apophyllites, the largest of which is 4.8 cm, are gemmy, highly lustrous, and mostly doubly-terminated. The terminations range from pointed to chisel (cleaved?), and are uniformly sharp and attractive. Ex. Steve Smale Collection.
9 x 7.8 x 3.2 cm. Outstanding combination piece consisting of Apatite, exceptional Arsenopyrite, clusters of Muscovite, and Quartz. The Apatite, 1.5 cm across and .5 cm thick, is a lovely gemmy green. The luster varies from excellent to coated. The lustrous Arsenopyrites are well-crystallized, almost fan-like in their habit. The Quartz is both massive as the base and well-crystallized, the few dings being of little significance. There are also numerous Muscovite inclusions in the gemmy Quartz crystals, which add even more to the aesthetics and mineralogical value of this excellent specimen. Ex. Steve Smale Collection.
