6.1 x 6.0 x 4.2 cm. A sparkling 6-cm stilbite bowtie and another 3 cm crystal crown a matrix of translucent, sparkly quartz here! EVERYTHING sparkles! The stilbite has a druse of quartz over it in parts which adds zest, but is also intrinsically really lustrous.
13.9 x 3.1 x 3.1 cm. A large, elegant and gemmy smoky quartz crystal of the uncommon "Tessin" habit, from the so-called "Alpine Prospect" in Hunza Valley. Minor inclusions of chlorite. A fine smoky!
4.6 x 3.1 x 2.4 cm. A poker chip crystal of dolomite has grown right against a super-sharp crystal of quartz. Both the quartz and the dolomite are tinted a rust color by inclusions of hematite. This is a superb combination piece from the well known Brazilian suite of Richard Gaines.
5.4 x 2.1 x 1.6 cm. An UNUSUALLY striking example of this now classic Chinese combo - not the usual plate of small spessartines with smokies sticking up, but a single uncommonly gemmy smoky with isolated spessartines on it.
7.2 x 4.7 x 3.4 cm. A gorgeous specimen from Peru -- perched at the tips of a cluster of sharp and very gemmy quartz crystals are these highly-modified, light sea foam green crystals of fluorite. The specimen is pretty from all sides, with the same fluorites and gemmy quartz points all the way around.
7.2 x 5.7 x 2.8 cm. A very unusual specimen of Vera Cruz amethyst, in that instead of being a flat plate the matrix is rounded and 3 dimensional, and the crystals lie flat across it - many showing both terminations. The fact that the matrix is behind the crystals really shows off the superb deep purple color at their tips and spectacular transparency and gemminess.
4.5 x 4.3 x 2.5 cm. An aesthetic cluster of blue quartz coating chrysocolla stalactites from the famous Ray Mine of Arizona. This specimen is further enhanced by the secondary coating of white quartz on the blue quartz. An old Ken Roberts specimen.
13.5 x 3.4 x 2.3 cm. A dramatic CABINET specimen of water-clear, glassy, tabular quartz crystals with a faden or "string" running the length of the piece from Pakistan. This doubly terminated beauty is pristine and some of the quartz crystals are curved! Ex. Marty Lewadny Collection.
5.3 x 2.6 x 2.0 cm. An EXCELLENT and SHOWY specimen of quartz replacing wulfenite crystals on sparkly, gray, drusy quartz matrix from the famous Finch Mine of Arizona. The large crystal is 1.3 cm
10.7 x 8.0 x 5.3 cm. A showy and classic combination CABINET specimen of sharp, matte-finish, dark gray bornite crystals nestled amongst water-clear quartz crystals from the Reyes Mine of Zacatecas, Mexico. Old-time material.
4.5 x 3.0 x 3.0 cm. The lavender color of these, near-gem, mirror-bright lepidolite "books" is STUNNING. And the arrangement in the quartz is also aesthetic. This is superb, older material from Teofilo Otoni and the Marty Lewadny Collection.
28 x 19 x 5.5 cm. Outrageously good museum-sized plate of light grayish-purple 2 cm cubes of Fluorite. The cubes (there must be over 60 of them!) have excellent luster and the classic superb fluorescence for which the term actually was derived. Yes, the effect of fluorescence was defined based on glowing fluorite from this locality! To raise the bar even more, there are well-formed Galenas to over 5 cm which have very good luster. Greater yet, there are three generations of epitaxial growth that go quartz-galena-quartz. I have rarely seen an English Fluorite this large that matches this superb specimen for quality and interest. An amazing combination piece from one of the world's great fluorite districts. A true old-time classic from the J. Cilen Collection. Locality is almost certainly Blackdene Mine in Weardale. But, it could be one of several mines in the area that were operating over time.
11.5 x 9.5 x 7 cm. To many people, a good Morganite is one of the most attractive of the gem crystals. When you can find one sitting up on matrix, and 4 cm across no less, the aesthetics jump dramatically. This lovely GEM-CLEAN crystal stands up beautifully on the matrix, allowing a perfect view through its gemmy interior. The color is a light pink-peach and the luster is excellent, particularly on the main faces. The Morganite is associated with Quartz, Albite, Lepidolite, and Tourmaline.
8.7 x 6 x 4.2 cm. Beautiful large Aqua (8.7 x 3.2 x 3.2 cm) with exceptionally good color and internal phantoms. Not often will you find an Aqua with such a nice blue color, and it is intricately zoned near the termination with multiple shades of darker blue stripes, which contributes even more to the aesthetics. To add to the excellent luster, great size (8.7 x 3 cm!), and color, there is associated Schorl, Quartz, and Albite (anchoring the crystal to the matrix, so you can see it is not repaired).
12.5 x 12.2 x 7 cm. Excellent and classic Tourmaline from certainly the most famous Tourmaline locality in the United States, and justifiably so. This 6 cm beauty grades from pink to green, has excellent luster, fine gemminess, and a good termination. As expected in most tourmalines, there is a stress fracture in the lower half, and a few minor dings along the top edge. Associated with large Quartz crystals, Albite, and Lepidolite, this is a distinctive specimen from a highly desirable locality.
