One of several really showy, richly included specimens Dick bought from collector Terry Szenics , who found them in Chile in about 2004. This piece has a particularly robust single gem quartz crystal just loaded with minute molybdenites inside.

A classic Maine amethyst point, with UNUSUALLY good gemminess and translucency to it for the size. Probably an older specimen, though I have no way to tell. All I can say is that this is MUCH MUCH more gemmy and translucent than anything I have seen from hewre in modern times and it is likely to have been mined prior to 1960, I am told. The bottom is cleaved off but the termination, and the upper surfaces ion display, are all pristine and lustrous and intact all around.

A superb thumbnail, with a large included moly cluster inside! One of the better thumbnails I have seen of the material. One of several really showy, richly included specimens Dick bought from collector Terry Szenics , who found them in Chile in about 2004.

A sharp miinature with phantoms quartz points inside outlined by the moly inclusions in the lower portion of the crystal, and minute flecks of moly spread atop as well. One of several really showy, richly included specimens Dick bought from collector Terry Szenics , who found them in Chile in about 2004. This particular miniature is a single robust crystal with the finest, largest molybdenite inclusions I have seen in any example from this find. They are dramatic, shiny, crysatllized inclusions to about 8mm in size and are vibrant within the quartz (which is undamaged). Superb example of this rare inclusion!

A pristine miniature, very bright and sparkling, featuring a wonderfully balanced central twin enhanced by the starkly contrasting prismatic quartz right behind it! Or in front...as either side is a good view depending on personal taste.

This is a darned good Ellenville quartz anyways: doubly-terminated, pristine, and complete all around! However, as a bonus, you get a to-scale hand-sketch made of the piece by John Sinkankas, well known author and artist. Old classic locality!

An oustanding toenail-(large thumbnail)-sized example of this classic habit from old England, often called beta quartz (though technically it only to the eye resembles true beta quartz in strict crystallographic terms). Isolated, gemmy crystal on sparkling hematite matrix, just extremely balanced and fine!

A razor sharp , nearly pristine quartz of unusual clarity and quality for this classic locality, which is now defunct. It has just a wee slight bit of edge wear on one edge face, hard to see. But the more important feature, enhanced given the unusual clarity, are the rich inclusions of crystallized arsenopyrite at the bottom!

Collected by Dick Jones over 30 years ago, these smoky twins remain one of the most impossible-to-obtain of all American finds, notable for the aesthetics, unqieu form and style, and sheer rarity of specimens. This is an outstanding miniature , with brilliant lustre, gemminess, and elegant chevron patterns that reflect light from many more angles than you would think - making the whole crystal more bright and noticeable. I have seen only a few of these for sale in the last decade, and none of this size which i liked so much. Hauck obtained this directly from Dick after he found it (label is here to prove it), and the piece has remained there for a LOOOONG time now!

A really 3-dimensional, striking sceptre, very equant; with an Alder, Montana "rock shop and motel" label listing the locality as 18 miles south of Butte. VERY GEMMY and unusually transparent for a large Montana sceptre, and thus the camera is not doing it justice...its much better in person!

A dramatic piece featuring multiply-sceptred smoky quartz perched one atop another on a thin central quartz shard, as if the sword of quartz was in a scabbard of smokies. It is a really impressive smoky visually, and honestly I admit it look smore like a Brazilian piece at first glance for the sheer quality of te smoky quartz you don't see as often from Maine. Despite its size, it is nearly pristine, with just a small spot or two of damage in the upper-right, not visible as displayed anyhow. The rightmost shot is upside down, but it helped to show more clearly the dramatic and 3-dimensional growth orientation of the smoky sceptres.

An important historic specimen, these intense lavender-colored amethysts with an almost silky texture to them are few and far between. This miniature has great aesthetics, with real rock matrix as a perch for 1 inch amethysts. It has never been cleaned, and so is a bit "dirty"; but I like the antique look of it. Note the handwritten label from William S. Vaux (1811-1882), whose collection formed the core of the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences. This piece, obviously, was traded out long ago befor ethe collections there went into storage and were eventually sold to a consortium of mineral dealers recently.
