Another (more normal-sized for most collections!) striking roseate cluster, complete all around, of gemmy , brilliant and clear quartz points that just is mesmerizing in person. It is incredibly 3-dimensional, so that its hard to hold without risking a slice to the finger from a sharp point shooting g out in some direction. The brilliant lustre, the gem clarity to the dominant crystal - absolutely top notch! the pictures do NOT do this one justice. Yes, the price seems high for an Arkansas quartz BUT measure out the size, consider tha tthis is absolutely pristine, and start thinking about how few pieces of such size and calibre you can honestly say to have seen out there. Its not as many as you first think! Common or not, I regard Arkansas quartz as a national classic, and something worthy of being in any collection, even the most sophisticated. The trick, however, is finding those special pieces in the top tenth of a tenth of a percentile that stand out to the eye as being above the run of the mill. This piece, I just cannot emphasize enough, is that special. In person, its obviously more impressive, too. From the personal collection of mine owner Ron Coleman.
These "fingers" sweep up from a thin plate of matrix, 9 cm tall in many spots, forming a hedge of gemmy water-clear quartz points. This kind of formation is often found heavily damaged and is hard to extract. However, this piece shows NO DAMAGE whatsoever, not a ding on a tip or crystal. It is contacted only about the bottom periphery, but even then, the rising crystals are all clean and terminated and there are no distracting breaks to the eye on the front display view. From a first glance, this looks like a common enough specimen, I suppose...but I cannot recall the last time I saw one piece this size, of this style, in such pristine condition. It is NOT common at all.
This is a large amethyst plate from an important locality mined for specimens only in recent years, the Anahi mine high up several hundred miles east of the Andes in the Pantanal. The largest crystals measure to 15 cm. While many good plates have come out, it is difficult to obtain specimens of this size that have both some aesthetics in 3-dimensions, and aren't beat to heck by the laborious trip out of the mine, down the mountains on mule, to the boats, and to the market here. This one was persoanlly brought out by an American dealer who had the rights to an exclusive on the mine for a number of years, and controlled much of its specimen production therefore. Diligence was taken which was not always the case, under this supervision.
This is a REALLY monstrous and suprisingly pristine amethyst plate from an important locality mined for specimens only in recent years, the Anahi mine high up several hundred miles east of the Andes in the Pantanal. The largest crystals measure to 15 x 8 x 7 cm. Few plates of this shocking size, in good condition, can be had...this one particularly appealed to me for its 3-dimensionality as well as its condition!
A huge plate of clear, sparkling, gemmy quartz points serves as host for a monstrous, long crystal hanging off the side and freestanding into space. It is properly displayed vertically, but was hard to photograph that way so we shot it on its side. The large doubly-terminated crystal is 23 x 4 x 4 cm and undamaged!
Look at the hand for scale...this is a HUGE PLATE that is in extremely good, in fact pristine, condition. I have seen many big quartz plates over the years but few of this size extracted with such care and luck as to have no damage. It is surely a museum piece and is VERY VERY impressive in person. Get out a ruler to see how big this is! Largest crystals are to 15 cm.
