Rutile, Quartz from Diamantina, Jequitinhonha valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-60830a.jpg]

A very showy specimen of two, crossed and doubly terminated, water-clear quartz crystals filled with brilliant, golden rutile needles to 1.3 cm on quartz matrix from Diamantina, Brazil. This is very fine material and the trivial edge bruise on the right crystal is certainly not detracting. 5.3 x 4.4 x 2.8 cm

Quartz from Ace of Diamonds Mine, Middleville, Town of Newport, Herkimer Co., New York, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-60943a.jpg]

One of the most famous collecting localities in the states has produced thousands of fine, singles, clusters and matrix pieces of doubly terminated, transparent, ”diamond –like” quartz crystals. This cluster features gemmy crystals to 2.5 cm in length and is highlighted by its very culprutal form. It was found in 1999. This is, for the size, an absolutely exquisite specimen and is MUCH better in person as they are hard to photograph! 5.2 x 4 x 2.2 cm

Rutile, Quartz from Araçuaí, Jequitinhonha valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-60951a.jpg]

This almost pristine, gemmy, light smoky quartz specimen is heavily included by bright golden needles of rutile. It is a huge specimen and you just do not often see large rutilated quartzes around. The crystals are nearly perfect, and the piece is bright and gemmy, much more beautiful in person than the pictures indicate. 21.3 x 7.3 x 4 cm

Quartz (Var: Citrine) from Araçuaí, Jequitinhonha valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-60952a.jpg]

Natural citrine crystals are quite rare in nature, and most citrine available on the market is irradiated to produce the color, a ruddy orange. This amber color is natural, though. This specimen of citrine quartz has many things going for it. To start, this citrine is totally facetable! Next, it exhibits hoppered growth at the termination in teh form of a thin overhanging secondary growth atop the otherwise razor sharp termination...REALLY neat effect in person. I have never seen this in citrine quartz. Lastly, it displays a phantom of citrine growing inside the larger crystal. Also this gem crystal weighs 755 grams. It is spectacularly gemmy in person!! 12.6 x 8.6 x 6.8 cm

Natural citrine crystals are quite rare in nature, and most citrine available on the market is irradiated to produce the color, a ruddy orange. This amber color is natural, though. This specimen of citrine quartz has many things going for it. To start, this citrine is totally facetable! This slightly etched, well formed crystal of citrine, is transparent and facetable for most of its length. The gorgeous color is slightly lighter than that of the crystal with hoppered growth (a volumetric effect), but this crystal exhibits a more elongated, classic growth. The crystal is complete, though contacted around the bottom perimeter for the first two inches - I was tempted to simply remove that part of the crystal , leaving a smooth base, but it IS just contact and not damage, and the height is appealing, but the trim can be done on demand if the buyer wishes. The specimen weighs 434 grams. 14.7 x 6.6 x 4.3 cm

Most specimens from this find rarely exhibit crystal faces, however, this piece is well-crystallized, by ametrine standards, showing a REAL termination instead of just numerous etched faces. This facet-grade specimen is primarily a rich amethyst color with a center stripe of citrine. In photos, the amethyst dominates more than in person, where the vivid citrine interior is easily visible as well. I know of no other worldwide deposit that displays these two colors of quartz in combination like this, and which cut absolutely beautiful bi-color stones of fairly large size. This gem rough weighs 279 grams. One of the best examples I have seen in some time, of this material which comes from only one mine in the high Andes! 12.8 x 5.4 x 4.9

This deposit, discovered less than ten years ago, is noted for huge amethyst crystal groups, composed of huge individual crystals such as this one - to my mind, the world's finest large amethyst crystals in this size range! It is more unusual to find clusters of this size (useable for most collectors) as opposed to large plates with lots of damage. This one is very classy, elegant, cluster. It is complete all around 360 degrees of the termination and also of the body, except for a contact on the back lower portion. The large crystal somewhat resembles a pineapple with multiple side terminations adding a lot of character. It is a very rich, top quality color for the find and has excellent translucency, too . 1360 grams in weight 16.2 x 10.1 x 9.5 cm

A complete dome or “porcupine”of quartz and chalcopyrite, MUCH FLASHIER in person (the quartzes are much gemmier than they appear and the chalcos much brighter and brassier!). The chalcos are perfectly scattered and balanced amongst the glassy quartz crystals. 8 x 6.5 x 4.5 cm

Quartz (Var: Rose Quartz) from Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-60980a.jpg]

This is a plate of rose quartz, completely crystallized with sparkly crystals on one side. There is also a pretty ridge of lighter-colored rose quartz crystals running right down the center of the specimen. The crystals are VERY lustrous, something that does not come out so well in the pics. 7.5 x 6 x 3.2 cm

An incredibly sharp and dramatic phantom quartz crystal. What makes it so special is the gemminess of the quartz, which provides a clear window to the perfectly outlined phantom inside (the inner crystal was coated with hematite before being engulfed, so instead of being subtle, it stands out like a sore thumb!). 8.8 x 3.5 x 3.4 cm

Mined in the early 70’s, this fine Las Vigas specimen features a GLASSY crystal with a beautiful deep purple blush in the center, surrounded by smaller zoned crystals. Some of the crystals at the bottom are incomplete, but this does not detract. This has just the top luster and clarity for a Las Vigas amethyst! 7 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm

I have told my Russian contacts to give me ANY citrines they can fine, as they are just extremely difficult to come by. I have gotten maybe 4 or 5 of them over the past year, and I have not seen anyone else with any more. Though citrines from Brazil are fairly common, they represent one of the rarer things to come from Russia lately. This specimen features a large, sharp, pristine crystal with unusual chevron zoning patterns inside, next to an equally perfect smaller one. 6.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm

Iron or hematite staining gives these quartz crystals their striking color. Unlike most things coming from China, you do not see a lot of these around! There are a few missing minor crystals, but not enough to take away from the beauty of the specimen. 10.5 x 6.5 x 4.5 cm

Three FINE, GEMMY crysals to 1.7 cm, beautifully centered on the matrix! They have superb luster and wonderful deep amber/red color. The crystals sit on a matrix of sparkly gray quartz, accented with a cluster of euhedral orthoclase. BETTER IN PERSON! 9 x 7 x 2 cm

Citrines from Russia are incredibly difficult to come by these days. I buy every good one I see, and that still amounts to only 5 pieces in the last 3 years I can recall. This specimen features a truly superb, super-gemmy crystal, sharp as a razor and with saturated golden color, against a backdrop of quartz. It is more lustrous in person, and is a significant addition to any Russian suite 9 x 7.2 x 3 cm
