This is a rare treasure indeed, one of just a few specimens found in a freak pocket about a decade ago. It is from the personal collection of a Russian mineral dealer, that was privately sold at the show (name on purchase). The piece is PERFECT. It is undamaged, and complete all around. It consists of a doubly-terminated golden barite crystal, with gem terminations, perched on quartz matrix. It just about sits on its own, even. A 3-cm crystal of disc-shaped calcite sits adjacent to the upper barite termination, for accent. The barite itself measures 8 x 2.5 x 2 cm or so. In my years, i had ONLY SEEN ONE OTHER from this pocket before, ever! And this one blows it away....I am told it is one of the two best known. This is a rare gem crystal, a rare Russian piece, and just a superb aesthetic specime nby any standard. It is from the private collection of a dealer who was involved in early specimens coming out of Dalnegorsk. 10.4 x 8.2 x 4.9 cm
As you can see from the front-and-back pics, this is COMPLETE all around! The qualrtz is complete, the tourmaline cluster is complete, its all there! The tourmaline is 9.5 cm long and about 1 cm thick. It has a perfect termination and the freestanding nature of the crystal, perched against the quartz cluster, makes for striking aesthetics! It is repaired twice, cleanly, as to be expected with such an exposed crystal and particularly one from this jigsaw puzzle of a mine and pocket. It is one of the most aesthetic matrix tourmalines for its size, that I think i can say i have seen from the Pederneira despite all its recent productivity. In person, it is much more bright and lustrous, too! 10 x 8.3 x 4.4 cm
This monstrous matrix aqua features a 5-inch (12.5 cm!) crystal perched nicely amongs and rising from clear quartz and albite matrix, with schorl for accent. It has a complete, lustrous, sharp termination and superb glassiness and transparency throughout the body of the crystal. The combination of size and stark contrast makes this one of the most dramatic aquas for the price I have seen for sale. It does have one repair, but lower down just above the join with the quartz, and not so easily visible. In context, as well, its minimal. The crystal has really attractive, interesting inclusions of small feathery sprays of what I think might be hematite , inside. Never seen... 19 x 13.5 x 6.9 cm
A very strange beast that came out, apparently, this past year. It is more amethystine quartz, than Amethyst per se, with a light and pleasing lavender hue. It is complete and undamaged all around! I have not seen others for sale. 14 x 11.2 x 9.5 cm
A complete-all-around sceptre with the ssceptre termination so overly developed it has grown around and out on all sides and down over the stalk that remains. It is remarkable for the size in its good condition and completeness. It displays well all around. The inclusions within (rutile?) give it a sparkling, shimmering , asterated surface effect that is like nothing I have seen from Korea before and more like the classic old "strawberry quartz" from Mexico. A beautiful specimen from ANY locality, but for Korea...just incredible?! 13.5 x 11.8 x 11.5 cm
This fluorite specimen features gorgeous, deep green fluorite octohedra to almost 5 cm on edge, perched on contrasting white matrix of CRYSTALLIZED quartz. The combo is very distinct, and classic for this locale. This is a rare specimen from a locality that is older than, and much more collectible now that it is gone, than Dalnegorsk. I am told that it is probably from the 1950s or 60s, and is certainly one of the best of its kind. It is a piece I first saw about 10 years ago and recently was able to get back from the collector I sold it to at the time. I was told at the time that it was from the collection of noted Russian collector Vladimir Pelepenko, although I do not have a label to that effect. 18.1 x 14.8 x 6.3 cm
7.2 x 4.2 x 5 cm. This specimen hosts a gorgeous flowery cluster of mimetite crystals to 1 cm, gracefully curving in upon themselves, and centered in matrix. It is a very unique piece in overall appearance and is quite attractive in person. It is very 3-dimensional, and the mimetites are set off nicely. Ex. James and Marjorie Ferguson Collection.
A big, fat, sharp crystal of amethyst with INTENSE and gorgeous deep purple color, and beautiful "cut glass" modifications on the sides. Micro-wear on the top edge basically invisible to the naked eye, insignificant relative to the size of the specimen. 11.5 x 8.5 x 8.4cm
Check out this tourmaline crystal, complete and terminated all the way around, sticking right out of the side of a quartz crystal! How dramatic can a tourmaline mini get!? MUCH BETTER - more colorful and gemmy - IN PERSON! Total uniqueness of the slender crystal of tourm hanging of a quartz in fantastical sculptural form! 4.7 x 3.1 x 1.9cm
Super-gemmy and lustrous, slender crystals of quartz cover both sides of this plate from Arkansas. In fact, this is really just a mass of intergrown crystals! The lustre is incredible. The quarry is huge but has been flooded for well over 30 years and is currently not open to collecting....even if you could the site of these specimens is under over 30 foot of water. 10.1 x 7.0 x 2.5cm
There is a sticker laminated to the back of this specimen with a $1,000 price on it, so we will just leave it there so you can see what someone was asking for it. At any rate, you can easily see why - it is really something! A super-gemmy, terminated, fine green tourmaline crystal embedded in an "elestial" quartz crystal! The tourmaline measures 3 cm. MUCH BETTER - more colorful and gemmy - IN PERSON! 11.6 x 4.4 x 3.0cm
A spectacular specimen from Mogok, with an extremely gemmy, pristine 3.5-cm topaz rising from the top of a matrix of muscovite crystals with gemmy quartz crystals. 8.4 x 8.1 x 6.2cm
Though quartz is extremely common, fine, sharp specimens like this from Greece are just not around! This pristine 5.5-cm crystal stands dramatically alone on a plate of contrasting coated crystals. Most quartz from this locale is included by hedenbergite, but this is "clean" 6.8 x 5.7 x 5.1cm
Gemmy pink rhodo crystals, with a single 1.5-cm tetrahedrite and gemmy little quartz needles. There is some minimal but visual damage to the rhodo crystals, so this piece is more about the nice combo. 4.2 x 2.7 x 2.2cm
A BIG specimen featuring deep wine-red garnets up to 1.5 cm, with gemmy quartz crystals, in a bed of muscovite. The coolest thing about this specimen is the garnet crystal clearly visible INSIDE the gemmy quartz! 18.8 x 12.2 x 7.3cm All Content and Design ©1996-2012 The ArkenstonePowered by http://mineralwebsites.comMineral Specimens by species; or by specimen id. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
