For the Yaogangxian, this is a HUGE scheelite crystal! And, it is VERY sharp, and complete all around (the clean contact is on the back). This is the characteristic color for Yaogangxian scheelites NOT to be confused with the much mor ecommon and orange-colored Ping Wu scheelites from Sichuan. For THIS locality, and for Hunan Province, this is a MAJOR crystal of some import and stands far above most others from teh locale. The 3-dimensional crystal has wrapped itself around some quartz, and there are some smaller intergrown scheelites as well. 5 x 3.5 x 2.8 cm
A truly elegant old Colorado combo specimen, with a euhedral microcline crystal of a light salmon color, with a transparent and sharp smoky rising beside it. 4 x 3.2 x 1.8 cm
4 x 1.6 x 1.1 cm. An OLD California piece. Two intergrown quartz crystals rise to terminations capped by gemmy little Herkimer-style scepters. Ex. Richard Hauck Quartz Collection.
A glowing-red crystal of classic color, perched in starkly contrasting matrix, makes this a very typical but also extremely pretty old classic. The rhodo is about 2 cm across and displays dramatically, exposed on most sides! 5.7 x 4.2 x 3.5 cm
This is one of the best, most perfect, terminated crystals of "Strawberry Quartz" that I have seen for sale. It is razor-sharp and has excellent lustre. It is richly included by acicular crystals of hematite which give it a unique sparkle and color, all its own. It is almost pristine, with just trivial edge wear in a few minor spots. This material is HIGHLY valued for its carving and lapidary uses. It is extremely rarer to find a surviving specimen in this size range, thus. Moreover, it has not been brutally polished, as most are! The inclusions display just fine without the need for polishing, thank you! 5.7 x 5.5 x 4 cm
An exceptionally rich specimen of this rare gold telluride form the old Cripple Creek mines. This specimen has freestanding crystals to 8mm but also a supersized 2 cm crysatl, showing both terminations at either end although covered with quartz in its middle section . 5.7 x 4 x 1.9 cm
Just a REALLY mesmerizing specimen of the onyx variety of agate, with an incredible "eye" staring out at you! Oddly, the rear end is made up of terminated quartz, so its a strange twofer of crystal and agate in one specimen. You could cut a good 7-8 slabs out of this one, each with the eye as it goes all the way through. It is even more impressive, in person. I am told this is very old lapidary material and uncut samples are impossible to obtain these days. Certainly, Herfurth bought heavily in the 50s and 60s and it is an older piece. 7 x 5.8 x 5.5 cm
A semi-circle of hoppered, euhedral and IRRIDESCENT galena crystals, on a matrix of quartz. 6.1 x 5.5 x 2.9cm
A big, fat crystal of deep purple Bolivian amethyst - complete all around and terminated, with superb saturated purple color. It features pretty "peaks" around the main termination. 13.9 x 9.3 x 7.8cm
Now this is a truly amazing crystal specimen. Here you see a quartz crystal and a topaz crystal so tightly intergrown that they look like 2 parts of the same crystal. But what happened was, the topaz and quartz grew at the same time, butting up against each other, witht the quartz wrapping itself around the topaz. In addition to The quartz has actually even grown up some of the faces of the topaz, as if trying to engulf it! The way the two crystals are embedded in the matrix suggests that this was not a case of one crystal forming, then another forming next to it later and wrapping around the first one -- but instead, it appears they grew in the pocket at the same time. Quite unusual and interesting! 6.7 x 7.3 x 4.1cm
This is a sizeable and stunning older Minas Gerais quartz specimen - a Herkimer-style smoky, gemmy, sharp and measuring 5.5 cm - that has grown right on the termination of an earlier-generation, milky quartz crystal! 10 x 7 x 3.1cm
A sharp green flattened rhomb of uvite tourmaline, perched perfectly on the edge of a long, gemmy, terminated quartz crystal (the photos were shot in a way that does not bring out the clarity of the quartz crystal). The uvite measures 1.6 cm. Inclusions inside the quartz crystal appear to be magnesite, commonly found in association with uvites at this locality. 9.6 x 5.8 x 2.7cm
Also from the collection of Steve Smale is this wonderful miniature of rose quartz, with individual crystals to 1 cm in length. It appears to be a floater with no points of attachment. The piece exhibits a flower-like arrangement with a delicate light pink color and moderate luster. 3.9 x 3.4 x 1.5 cm
This extremely aesthetic rosette of rose quartz formed around a core of milky quartz. The light pink color, gemminess, and super luster are enhanced by many crystals, 1 cm long. This is a fine example of the eye for quality in minerals exhibited by Steve Smale. 3.6 x 3.3 x 2.5 cm
Glassy, lustrous, water clear crystals of light pink, rose quartz are arranged in a divergent pattern on this lovely specimen. In addition, it has its own natural base. The rose quartz crystals reach 2.0 cm in length. The number of rose quartz specimens that are clear enough to be facetted, as is this one, are few and far between. PERFECT and complete all around!!! 5.5 x 4.5 x 1.9 cm
