Another pretty Yaogangxian combo specimen, combining shiny arsenopyrite crystals with quartz, sparing muscovite and a single purple fluorite cube. BETTER IN PERSON! 7.0 x 6.2 x 3.4cm
A cluster of amethyst crystals blending purple and rust tones, the rust color coming from inclusions of hematite. Very pretty, and very similar to the famous Thunder Bay specimens from this nearby locality. 4.1 x 3.9 x 2.2cm
A whopper version of another specimen in this auction . . . HUGE milky quartz crystals, to 10 cm in length, with big, shiny arsenopyrites (to 5 cm) and touches of purple fluorite here and there. A big, flashy specimen! BETTER IN PERSON! 17.8 x 14.6 x 8.0cm
A nicely symmetrical quartz crystal accented at its base by little ilvaites. There is a very slight ding at the termination. 5 x 2.5 x 2 cm
This remarkable combo specimen features a super-gemmy, SHARP, 100% terminated topaz embedded in the arms of a diverging quartz termination. The topaz is 4 cm in length and actually is doubly-terminated, with its bottom or rear end wrapping around a sharp, perfect, 4-cm-long schorl which lances out at about a 90-degree angle from the topaz, perfectly in plane, emerging through the OTHER side of the quartz at that same 90 angle of separation! It is very sharp, very exquisite, and much better in person. Th3e whole cluster is damned near a floater, with just a small bit of albite matrix attached at the back, near the junction of all 3 minerals. Otherwise, this is complete all around, and undamaged, as well. 6.8 x 5.1 x 4.5 cm
SHARP and very gemmy 1.5 cm garnet embedded partially in quartz. 5.8 x 4.7 x 4 cm
This is an excellent representative example from this rare and desirable pocket of GEMMY blue apatite perched on deep puple fluorite octohedra, found perhaps 15 years or so ago ( i still remember seeing them labelled as aquamarine at the time!). None have been found since, and they are quite rare on the market now. 6.5 x 4.1 x 3 cm
An exquisite combination piece with sharp, gemmy brown anatase perched all over a nice fat quartz point! Classic, but rare in such a nice aesthetic specimen! 5.7 x 5.6 x 4.1 cm
This amazing combination specimen has absolutely NO REPAIRS (i assure you on this)! This is almost impossible, you'd think, given the apparent exposure of the crystal to the elements. It came out in a very large piece, which was then trimmed down to size, preserving the central core and the protected crystal. The crystal measures 11 x 2.5 x 2.25 cm in size, or about 4.5 x 1 x 1 inch! It is very interesting in its own right, aside from the sheer insanity of the combo aesthetics. This crystal is the product of complex solution events that have given it a very interesting pattern, like a cityscape, around all the hexagonal faces of the side. The top termination, however, is unaltered in form , though it seems to have a secondary oriented coating of micro-aqua that gives matte finishes to some alternating faces. It is hard to describe, but I think the pics do it best anyhow in this case. 15.2 x 11.4 x 10.2 cm
An aesthetic, lustrous, doubly terminated, milky-white quartz crystal with an attractively attached sidecar crystal from a famous German locality. Very odd, rare style! 2.9 x 1.9 x 1.3 cm
Very attractive 3-D cluster of sharp blades of quartz - the quartz having replaced earlier crysatls of calcite. Classic for the locale, and not redily available today 8.5 x 6.8 x 5.2cm
A very pretty specimen that combines very gemmy lavender fluorites with a cluster of quartz crystals. A couple of minor dings, but overall in good shape and very aesthetic. 9.9 x 6.5 x 5.5cm
Bright, lustrous spessartine garnets interspersed with smoky quartz points, with matrix showing through to provide contrast. Pretty! 7.0 x 5.7 x 3.8cm
Many of the spessartine specimens that come from Tongbei are just wall-to-wall crystals, but the prettier ones have isolated crystals, and sometimes, they are on EUHEDRAL crystals of feldspar, as with this one, making the specimen particularly attractive. This is a BIG, SHOWY specimen! 16.2 x 14.1 x 4.9cm
What you cannot see too well in the pics is how a few chalcopyrites from a later generation light up this specimen with an amazing rainbow iridescence. These and an earlier generation of crystals grew on a plate of quartz, with three quartz crystals elegantly dominating the back of the specimen. Two of the quartzes have had chalcopyrites grow on them, and partially engulfed them. 8.3 x 6.2 x 5.2cm
