The terminations of kyanites are usually rough and it is sometimes difficult to tell whether a crystal is terminated or not. But, most of the crystals on this specimen DO appear to be fully terminated. This is a whole cluster of crystals, grouped around a sparing quartz matrix. It is extremely 3-dimensional and dramatic in person, and looks more like a sculpture than a mineral specimen in some ways! Kyanites are generally thought of as opaque crystals buried in matrix, so specimens such as this are the rare exception. 9.5 x 3 x 3 cm
A cluster of quartz crystals rising from a sparing matrix of massive sphalerite. 6.8 x 3.1 x 2.3 cm
Even more strange, pretty and impressive in person – this is a super-complex floater crystal of smoky quartz, unusually flattened, showing the growth pattern sometimes referred to as “elestial.” The crystal is displayable from either side and terminated all the way around. You can’t see it from the pics, but as you rotate it, the light reflects off of all the parallel faces at once, demonstrating the crystallographic order amidst what seems to be a confusion of faces. Really impressive! One of two of these in this update. 9 x 7.5 x 3.2 cm
Is this gorgeous, or WHAT? Super-bright and sparkly pyrite microcrystals cloat calcite crystals, with a later generation of calcites having grown on the earlier bed so they stick up above this golden field. This specimen was mined in Eastern Europe earlier this year. BETTER IN PERSON! 6.6 x 4.7 x 3.3 cm
Big, sharp, shiny arsenopyrite crystals, with quartz points growing amongst them - a rich specimen from the Yaogangxian. 8 x 6.2 x 4.2 cm
A SPECTACULAR and UNUSUAL specimen of quartz replacing wulfenite crystals on sparkly, gray, drusy quartz matrix from the famous Finch Mine of Arizona. The large crystal is 5 mm. This is one of the rarest Arizona replacement specimens available on the market. The back has been sawed to enhance display. this stuff is impossible to get today! it came in a few pockets now 15 years or so ago, and I found a small stash recently, but haven''t seen others in 4-5 years 7.8 x 5.9 x 2.9 cm
A very aesthetic Indian specimen of lustrous, salmon-pink stilbite blades on translucent, drusy, quartz stalactites from Jalgaon. Ex Marty Lewadny Collection. 6.7 x 3.7 x 3.0 cm
A GORGEOUS Miniature specimen of very sparkly, blue drusy quartz on botryoidal chrysocolla on sulfide matrix from the recent find at the Manto Tres Gracias Mine in Chile. 5.4 x 5.3 x 4.2 cm
An extremely rich and showy ore specimen of a slabbed and polished face of dendritic silver in quartz from Creede, Colorado. This is a superb, old-time Colorado piece and is seldom available in this quality. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. The weight is 79 grams or nearly 3 ounces, most of it silver! 4.9 x 3.2 x 3.0 cm
A BIG, showy specimen of creamy, sparkly calcites that have partly covered a plate of quartz crystals. 15.5 x 14.5 x 12.2 cm
A very showy and aesthetic cluster of translucent, lustrous, smoky quartz crystals with colorless terminations from the Rosario Mine, near Viloco, Bolivia. Very uncommon and high quality material from this locality, which is a gold mine. The back of the termination is bruised, but is totally out of sight, as the photos show. 6.3 x 4.3 x 4.2 cm
A beautiful and aesthetic Arizona aurichalcite specimen from the famous 79 Mine in Gila County. Clusters of radiating turquoise-blue aurichalcite needles rest on sparkly, quartz on matrix. This piece may be from the famous late 60s-early 70s find by Mineralogical Record publisher Wendell Wilson, generally considered to be the finest in the world for the species. 6.8 x 5.0 x 2.6 cm
A UNIQUE and HIGHLY UNUSUAL doubly terminated quartz crystal. The crystal is included with an UNKNOWN yellow mineral, which follows the PHANTOM outline, which is VERY UNUSUAL. The crystal is also included with tiny schorl crystals! I have never seen ANYthing like this. Old material from the famous Virgem da Lapa area of Brazil. Bruising to one termination face is barely noticeable and does certainly not detract from this most unusual piece. honestly, its unique, beautiful, colorful, and in good shape. 6.1 x 2.0 x 1.6 cm
A GORGEOUS cluster of very glassy, facet-grade, doubly terminated amethyst crystals from the recent find in Georgia. These stunning amethysts were produced out of a pegmatite that has produced on and off for decades, though in a spectacular find of Chritsmas 2004, it produced the best pockets yet - exceptional , colorful crystals with glassy lustre and large size. These are arguably the finest North American amethysts. The contact on the back and part of one side is certainly not detracting in any manner from this beautiful piece. 5.5 x 4.6 x 3.5 cm
An EXCELLENT and showy specimen of mirror-finish, brass-yellow, pyrite octohedrons nicely set on needle quartz matrix from Butte, Montana. A super locality piece from the Ed Ruggiero Collection. OLD material! 6.0 x 4.0 x 2.2 cm
