8.2 x 6.3 x 4.5 cm. The Japan-Law twin Quartz specimens from this mine are well known in the mineral world, and this piece is a great example of the material. The specimen hosts a beautiful, doubly-terminated, nearly water-clear, colorless Japan-Law twin Quartz measuring 3.6 cm across along with several prismatic Quartz crystals which are associated with minor spherical aggregates of Wavellite.

6.6 x 4.2 x 1.6 cm. This is a very attractive association specimen from one of the most famous classic Peruvian localities. There are several sharp, lustrous, prismatic, parallel growth crystals of Hubnerite beautifully associated with slender, colorless gemmy Quartz crystals and a minor dusting of Pyrite. The finest aspect to this specimen is the fact that when it is backlit, it shows the classic blood-red hue that made these specimens so popular 30 years ago. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.

Fluorite, Quartz from Le Burg Mine (Le Burc Mine), Alban - Le Fraysse area, Tarn, Midi-Pyrénées, France [db_pics/mdpics/MD-24346a.jpg]

A SIGNIFICANT European fluorite specimen, both for its size and the quality of the crystals, which measure to 3.4 cm along the edge. They are a transparent light blue-grey in hue, and show fine internal phantoms as well. Big French fluorites such as this just do not come along very often! I have seen smaller specimen from the locality, usually without such nice quartz matrix but rather broken off from the matrix. This is , however, one of the better large matrix pieces I have had. I am told that the mine is now defunct, though I am not sure when it closed. 17 x 16 x 6 cm

6.7 x 5.0 x 2.5 cm. A sparkling and unusual druse of millimeter-size tabular, lustrous, black babingtonite completely covers the matrix of botryoidal, green prehnite. One solitary, freestanding babingtonite leaps out of them. For accent there is a large, colorless, doubly terminated quartz crystal measuring 2.5 cm in length and the largest baingtonite crystal is also doubly terminated and it measures 1.0 cm across. The matrix seems to be a floater shard of crystallized prehnite, and is entirely translucent when backlit. Lustre on these crystals is high, and the faces are all sharp and un-etched or discolored as with some babingtonite from this locality. These remarkable specimens come out of a very small, previously insignificant quarry that, according to MINDAT, is simply worked by the local farmers.

Babingtonite, Prehnite, Quartz from Hongquizhen Quarry, Meigu Co., Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-243469a.jpg]

7.7 x 6.3 x 4.0 cm. A nearly solid mass of intergrown, tabular, black babingtonite crystals, measuring up to 3.8 cm across is color contrasted against minor, botryoidal, green prehnite and colorless quartz crystals to 1.3 cm in length. The terminations are extremely well developed on this specimen and aesthetic in how they face the viewer. The crystals have a slight twist to them which is more obvious in person. The lustre is naturally and remarkably high - and these were not cleaned with any acids or chemicals to make them so. These extremely stark and dramatic crystals, the best one of which is so obviously freestanding and upright, sit on a beautiful floater matrix piece. The color contrast between the prehnite and the babingtonite is outstanding on this well-balanced specimen that stands so nicely on its own. Lustre on these crystals is high, and the faces are all sharp and un-etched or discolored as with some babingtonite from this locality. These remarkable specimens come out of a very small, previously insignificant quarry that, according to MINDAT, is simply worked by the local farmers.

Fluorite, Quartz from Jiangxi Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-24347a.jpg]

From perhaps the most exciting new mineral find of the past year -- extremely sharp crystals to 2.3 cm along the edge, nicely balanced on the matrix. The color is a fine balance of purple and green, the ideal from this mine in my opinion. Damage only at periphery with no damage to the display-face crystals. Wonderfully isolated crystals. A fine piece from this super find! 12 x 11 x 3 cm

10.8 x 7.3 x 3.8 cm. A combination of beautiful green prehnite and colorless quartz, to 1.2 cm in length, accent nicely with babingtonite crystals to 2.5 cm across. The crystals run in a "stream" down the plate, and the prehnite on this specimen is particularly high in quality (of both crystallization and translucency). Lustre on these crystals is medium level for the locale, and the faces are all sharp and un-etched or discolored as with some babingtonite from this locality. These remarkable specimens come out of a very small, previously insignificant quarry that, according to MINDAT, is simply worked by the local farmers.

7.8 x 6.9 x 3.2 cm. Sparkling, colorless quartz, in crystals to 1.0 cm in length along with botryoidal, green prehnite, form the backdrop for an overhanging tabular, doubly terminated, lustrous crystal of babingtonite that measures 2.2 cm across. On the back side are some of the finest crystallized prehnites I have yet seen from this locality, that are on their own merit very beautiful and appealing rosettes of crystals. Lustre on the babingtonite crystals is high, and the faces are all sharp and un-etched or discolored as with some babingtonite from this locality. These remarkable specimens come out of a very small, previously insignificant quarry that, according to MINDAT, is simply worked by the local farmers.

10.1 x 8.9 x 3.8 cm. Perched high on a triangular-shaped matrix of attractive colorless quartz (crystals to 1 cm) and prehnite, are three sharp babingtonites. Fluorite, Quartz from Jiangxi Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-24371a.jpg]

A superb example of a type of fluorite that has been exceedingly expensive and hard to get in quality specimens. There are three intergrown crystals here of a glowing purple, isolated in the center of a field of contrasting quartz. The largest crystal measures 3.3 cm. These have been amongst the fluorite finds causing the most excitement over the past 2 years, and one can find them on various websites reaching into some really high dollar figures. Occasionally, though, we find a fixerupper at shows and vcan still get them affordably if you put a little work into cleaning. VERY NICE AND VERY INTERESTING MATERIAL - these are worth stashing away as they are so distinct from any other chinese fluorites! 13 x 9.5 x 3 m

An elegant and impressive cluster of amethyst crystals with purple phantoms inside, characteristic of Guerrero. This style, though, represents some of the oldest phantom amethysts found here and is in fact very rare on the market today. ex. Many of the quartz crystals are doubly-terminated. Old stock of Dr. Gary Hansen and not shown since the early 1980s! This would thus be from teh classic find of the 1970s that at the time produced best of species. Nice matrix pieces like this were always rare form there, though loose crystals were common at the time (though not now!) 7.4 x 6.2 x 4.5 cm

Superb, pristine, translucent, spray of quartz crystals from this classic old locality in Greece. The wonderful green color, which goes throughout the crystal, is caused by hedenbergite inclusions. It is an exceptional piece for the material. 9.8 x 3.1 x 1.9 cm

3.2 x 2.9 x 2.2 cm to 6.6 x 4.7 x 2.5 cm. The Amethyst locality at Bombori was recently producing specimens about six or seven years ago, but it seems as though the locality has "dried up" and these attractive and eye-catching display pieces are not coming out of ground at the moment. The specimens from this locality show a variety of different crystal habits. All 12 of the specimens in this lot feature Amethyst on Calcite (some of which have underlain "Chlorite"). Some of the more unique pieces in this lot are those crystals with the rarely seen "reverse scepter" habit.
