A SUPERB arborescent gold specimen with killer aesthetics, beautiful from either side. The crystals are VERY FINE and bright, of top color, and feature flattened ocohedra to almost 1 cm. The specimen is a very choice example for the size and price range, and would be a dramatic presence in any collection. As gold is notoriously difficult to photograph, it is BETTER IN PERSON. 7.1 x 4.1 x 1 cm
A very showy, arborescent gold specimen, beautiful from either side. The gold cluster is composed of innnumerable intergrown crystals of several forms, tightly woven together to create a sturdy "tree" on matrix. The specimen is a very choice example for the size and price range, and would be a dramatic presence in any collection. As gold is notoriously difficult to photograph, it is BETTER IN PERSON. 7 x 3.5 x 1 cm
A remarkable, dramatic, HUGE specimen with a sturdy 7 x 5 x 1 cm cluster of intricately intergrown gold crystals perched smartly upon the top of a plate of quartz matrix. It is thick, solid gold - not "bendy" or fragile in the least. The gold is supported by an extension of the matrix all along its back, carefully removed from the sides but left to support the gold itself. The gold crystals feature several forms of the species, from elongated octahedral crystals and flattened octahedra along the edges to a rich mass of densely-packed thin, wirelike, spinel-twinned crystals right in the middle. Most large gold specimens are simply prohibitively priced for obvious reasons - they are showy as heck and people like them, even the non-collector. This is one of the few such impressive large display pieces I have had which is also that rare quality - "relatively" affordable and with room to appreciate in value and not bankrupt you in the meantime (given that i have seen 25-100k golds that werent 2-10 times as impressive). 10.5 x 10 x 3.25 cm
This piece features a thick, sturdy, brilliantly-colored group of gold crystals perched dramatically on a knoll of quartz like an upswept feather about to move in the breeze...it is THAT aesthetic! This specimen really stands out from the crowd of Eagle's Nest material because of the thickness and solidity of the arborescent gold crystal group, which is composed of an unusually thick, interlocking weave of crystals. It is complete and showy on both sides. Gold of serverl crystal forms is present, including an unusual thick weave of crysatls about th emiddle and flattened and twinned octohedra at the sides and top. GOOD FROM EITHER SIDE and BETTER IN PERSON by far! 5.7 x 3 x 1.6 cm
This spectacularly showy specimen is equally attractive from both sides. it features a sturdy, intricate mass of dense gold crystals rising like a tree from the matrix (a lucky trim, this!). The gold rises 2 inches (5 cm) in height and is nicely centered, making it one of the prettiest and richest California golds for its size and price range that I have seen in a long time. 6.5 x 4.75 x 2 cm
Gorgeous specimen of this assemblage which is classic for the locality, though very rare on the market since they were mined some time ago and few came out. This one features ISOLATED primary malachite xls to 4mm in size 2.5 x 1.1 x 0.7 cm
Gorgeous specimen of this assemblage which is classic for the locality, though very rare on the market since they were mined some time ago and few came out. This one features an ISOLATED rosette of primary malachite xls to 7mm in size. The cluster itself is just over 1 cm. The overall aesthetics are striking an the lustre on the malachite is BETTER in person and this is a competition-level thumbnail! 2.8 x 2.5 x 0.9 cm
Gorgeous specimen of this assemblage which is classic for the locality, though very rare on the market since they were mined some time ago and few came out. This one features an ISOLATED rosette of primary malachite xls to 7mm in size AND isolated individual crystals to 4mm elsewhere on the plate. The cluster itself is just over 1 cm. The overall aesthetics are striking an the lustre on the malachite is BETTER in person. 4.7 x 3.5 x 1.1 cm
This old specimen features thick, robust crystals to FOUR CENTIMETERS IN SIZE, perched as if arching up and away from a quartz matrix that is colored green in spots by epidote (or prehnite?). In that subtle way of crystallized coppers, it is pretty darned dramatic - BETTER IN PERSON. 8.6 x 4.3 x 3 cm
An interesting, starkly geometrical plate composed of quartz that has completely cast over and replaced fluorite . The quartz varies from 8 mm or so to several cm in thickness. The backside (negative cast) of the specimen is completely covered with sparkling sphalerite in a dense coating of small crystals, while the front has an ENTIRELY different sulfide deposition consisting of isolated galena crystals and isolated sphalerite crystals. Why the front and back should be so different, I hav eno idea. Anyways, though, it is darned neat to look at and is certainly an oldtimer! Ex. Scott Williams dealer stock, too. 14 x 13.1 x 2.5 cm
16.5 x 8.2 x 6.0 cm. A large specimen of matrix molybdenite crystals, from this important old mining district. This piece has historical and locality significance and it is actually the only such specimen I have personally ever seen. Ex. Andrew Carnegie Collection.
2.6 x 2.4 x 1.8 cm. This bright, lustrous, molybdenite crystal clearly exhibits its hexagonal form. The metallic silver color is as bright as it can be. Excellent locality piece.
6.3 x 5.9 x 4.2 cm. A very fine specimen from Mogok, with an extremely gemmy, pristine 2.5-cm topaz rising from the top of a quartz crystal along with two translucent, lightly frosted quartz crystals. The topaz is beautiful, light cognac color and has the classic, chisel termination.
5.8 x 4.4 x 3.8 cm. Very highly lustrous, radiating sprays of brownish-black, goethite needles to about 8 mm with quartz line a chalcedony geode on this very showy specimen from the Jaime Bird Collection and a less well-known Moroccan locality - Amerzgane.
7.9 x 5.8 x 5.1 cm. An aesthetic and beautiful, two-sided, mounded amethyst specimen. Gorgeous, glassy, translucent to transparent, purple crystals of amethyst to 3.0 cm in size stand beautifully upright on the matrix. The crystals really sparkle and are called "cactus quartz" for their form. This is the true source for the amethystine quartz crystals (aka "cactus quartz" and "spirit quartz") erroneously marketed as being from the Magaliesberg Range. A lovely example with great color. Pristine, except for the periphery wear on one end.
