16.8 x 12.8 x 5.4 cm. A superb large cabinet vug from recent finds at Jalgaon, India. Gemmy and lustrous, green grading up to colorless, pyramidal apophyllite crystals to 6.0 cm compliment pearlescent, pastel-pink stilbite blades to 4.7 cm aesthetically scattered on drusy quartz-covered basalt matrix.
A STUNNING SPECIMEN with water-clear, bright, lustrous, see-through green fluorite crystals perched dramatically above contrasting matrix! I know we have all seen a lot of YGX fluorites but this oen is truly special and stands out for both crystal quality and display aesthetics. 10 x 9.3 x 5.6 cm
5.2 x 5.1 x 2.8 cm. These remarkable weloganites are best of species, and all came from a few small pockets at this quarry. I think most were collected in the 1970s by Don Doell and friends, of this style. This particular specimen is a choice miniature with a 1.4 cm crystal perched in the center. These pseudohexagonal crystals have unique form, and look more like a biological growth of coral, than a crystal per se. Still on the specimen is much of the original pocket coating, which is comprised of several other rare species (primarily dresserite), on calcite and small quartz crystals. The little black microcrystals atop may be donnayite but I am not sure. The quarry has been inactive since 1981 and will never be active again.
Sharp, gemmy crystals of sphalerite on contrasting matrix. Better in person! Nice material from finds in the mid-90s. 8.2 x 6.2 x 3.5 cm
4.0 x 3.3 x 2.3 cm. This is a slender 1.1-cm-tall emerald crystal, incredibly gemmy (especially for this locality), glassy, and perched on quartz matrix. A classic. This came in a collection dating to about 1984 at latest, so it is from old finds here and not modern mining efforts.
9.3 x 8.3 x 4.3 cm. A fairly impressive locality piece, with large chalcopyrites to 2 cm across on quartz matrix. Ex. Joe Cilen Collection.
12.6 x 8.7 x 7.9 cm. A large, robust, complete-all-around quartz crystal from this classic old locality, from which specimens seldom turn up today (the mine was shut in 1932). Ex. George Feist quartz Collection.
10.9 x 9.0 x 6.3 cm. A major old specimen with a huge, 7-cm-long chalcopyrite crystal on which rests a cluster of quartz, and then another, smaller but sharper, chalcopyrite. This is a classic old locality from which specimens seldom turn up today (the mine was shut in 1932). This particular specimen is a stunningly large chalcopyrite for any US locality. Note it has not been cleaned.
6.6 x 3.4 x 1.7 cm. An extremely rich example of pyromorphite from this rare locality, both well covered and with excellent color.
A super-colorful plate of Sweet Home mine rhodos, featuring a dozen good crystals ranging to 2.2 cm across. The color is CHERRY and the lustre is very good on these crystals. The clarity of the crystals from this pocket is rated highly , and the crystals are transparent to translucent but edging more on the side of the former. 10 x 8 x 2 cm
A very rare quartz plate from the old lead mining districts in Missouri, probably 50 years old or more! In person, it has a sugary appearance and is quite pretty. 11.9 x 10 x 3.5 cm
6.6 x 6.0 x 4.5 cm. This is a rare matrix specimen from these mines, with a deep wine-red crystal enclosed in a quartz point, grown together somehow. The quartz is frosted or altering on its surface, giving a stark matte white background to the tourmaline which offsets it nicely. Complete, no repairs...this is rare, for the location, where most tourmalines are found as loose singles or big chunky matrix specimens but few in aesthetic associations. Weighs 188 grams.
6.6 x 3.3 x 2.4 cm. This is a well formed crystal of lustrous, gemmy, intensely smoky quartz, measuring 6.75 cm tall and perched dramatically with a bit of accenting matrix. It is unusual for smoky quartz crystals to be this dark (morion) black, and still be gemmy. Clean and perfect all around, this is a super piece from a new find here.
7.1 x 5.5 x 2.9 cm. Two crystals of dark intensely smoky quartz, to 7.0 cm in length, exhibit parallel growth from a matrix of drusy white quartz and flesh colored feldspar crystals. The crystals are lustrous and gemmy and nearly pristine. Otherwise complete and pristine all around. Very nice association on dramatic matrix, from this new find.
10.1 x 7.8 x 6.5 cm. An original core of milky quartz was later overgrown by a dark, lustrous and translucent, intensely smoky quartz crystal measuring 9.5 cm in length. When backlit, the milky core becomes an otherworldly phantom. A nice color contrast to the smoky quartz is the associated beige colored feldspar matrix.
