This is a miniature sized specimen rich with perhaps 2 dozen sub-mm crystals , eye visible, scattered all over it. On the nice, crystallized quartz of the display face are two larger crystals which are almost 2 mm in size, bright and sharp, and possibly twinned. VERY NICE display-quality specimen with eye-visible crystals! The back is cut and semi-polished, revealing rich and attractive veins of tellurium

This is a display-sized specimen rich with perhaps 20 sub-mm crystals that are smaller, but still eye visible and very sparkly so the appearance of the piece as a whole is quite rich, scattered all over it. WOW! The pics of this amazing specimen pretty much speaks for it, but beyond that it won the prestigious Savinar prize for best San Diego specimen at the Los Angeles club show last year. It is one of the finest large Himalaya specimens I have handled, and really stands elegantly apart from most because of its dramatic termination and its amazing perch on matrix. Now, it is repaired onto the matrix cleanly but the tourmaline itself is miraculously not repaired, and moreover it is pristine! The tourmaline crystal is 14.5 x 4 x 3.75 cm. it has good color, not the best but not pale either, and nice color-zoning. the termination is REALLY unusual. i

A remarkable miniature with two exceptionally gemmy tourmalines to 3 cm perched on the side of a smoky quartz crystal. They have brilliant lustre and an olive green color that is apparent in good lighting. This specimen was collected in attempts to find a "backdoor" into the Himalaya after the main adit collapsed, and before the mine was formally closed.

A VERY RARE matrix association piece from the CG with a GEM blue indicolite crystal of good form! The crystal measures approx 2 x 2 x 1 cm and is exceptional in form and quality for the mine. Recovered this past March of 2004. BETTER IN PERSON.

This is a special Himalaya piece because the red color and high lustre of the tourmaline is as good as it got from the mine. It is literally GLASSY! The deeply colored tourmaline is unrepaired, too, and is perched aesthetically smack-dab on the side of the quartz point (it comes with a Sunnywood base, as well, to display it upright). The tourmaline itself measures about 6 x 3 x 2.5 cm in size. It is VERY HARD to get display-sized, good-quality Himalaya tourmalines in matrix and so I regard this as a rare find. It is, I am told, an old piece mined most likely by Ralph Potter prior to the 1970s when Pala took over the mine. It was formerly in a prominent Italian collection before coming back to the US.

A dramatic matrix tourmaline specimen! This one, unlike most Himalayas, has GREEN elbaite on quartz whereas the more common coloration is of pink or red hues. This adds considerable importance to the piece when taken in context. There is one repair to the upright crystal, near its emergence from the quartz. There are probably two repairs (at least one) in the secondary crystal and that crystal is incomplete underneath, but it displays well and so doesn't hurt the piece visually given the size and importance of the piece, and the fact that the eye strays right to the upright crystal anyhow. These crystals are a dark forest green, gemmy even with minimal backlighting.

A VERY interesting and to my knowledge unique specimen featuring a fanspray of elongated pink crystals INSIDE a quartz point. The crystals inside have been shown to be Montmorillonite but the form is wrong because the mineral usually is amorphous from the locality, indicating they are a replacement after another, as yet-unidentified mineral species. From Tim Sherburn, who got it from dealer Mark Rodgers in 1984. Note that the front has been polished to enhance display of the inclusion (and the piece is a quartz shard, anyhow)

A really attractive large specimen featuring a classic Little 3 assemblage in decorative arrangement...the smoky in the middle is pristine save for one small contacted face (not damage), and is nicely accented by stark white albite and dozens of glittering little orange spessartines perched on every other species present (quartz, albite, muscovite blades) and even included within the smoky!

An interesting, attractive knob of albite with smokies pointing up through it every which way! Acquired from the collection of Tim Sherburn, who got it from Louis Spaulding Jr. (current owner of the mine made famous by his father) in 1993

An exquisite and sharp quartz crystal that is terminated ALL AROUND and shaped more like a sphene than a quartz. It has rich inclusions of jet black schorl crystals running inside. One side is glassy and the other dull, but overall it is quite transparent. This unusual specimen is the only such I have seen, and was included in the collection because the mine is really in the same pegmatite belt, though in the adjacent county. A purchase made by Tim Sherburn from the late Pomona club show in 1995

An interesting piece for several reasons: firstly a Stewart matrix tourmaline is uncommon. Secondly, the tourmaline is caught in the process of being etched away and the cap is actually disattached from the main body at this point, held on by the quartz. IN person, the effect is interestign and not as ugly as you would suppose...

A truly amazing specimen of lepidolite, a species often relegated to matrix rock and not considered desirable as a mineral per se by advanced collectors. Well, this one should do the trick! It is a REALLY elegant specimen with crystals to 7 cm of sharply hexagonal, translucent, lavender lepidolite perched at the top of a quartz crystal. Pristine in front, though contacted in back. This is a significant and showy addition to any Himalaya suite that begs to be broader than a group of colored sticks, so to speak. It is quite simply one of my very favorite pieces in this entire collection!
