4JD31 - Rose Quartz - SOLD
Pitorra Mine, Galileia, Minas Gerais, Brazil

miniature, 3.5 x 3.1 x 2.2 cm
share specimen

Sorry, we have no images of this specimen at present.

For many years, crystalline rose quartz was one of the great mineral rarities. Even today, good crystals are not that common and highly desired. This specimen had good pink color and features rose quartz crystals in two different habits! The luster is good, and the one minor broken crystal does not detract at all from the value of this specimen. Much better in person

4JD37 - Dolomite (twinned) on Quartz, Phengite - SOLD
Brumado, Bahia, Brazil

miniature, 4.5 x 2.5 x 2.2 cm
share specimen

Sorry, we have no images of this specimen at present.

What an interesting combination piece this is! A very nice quartz crystal (very minor ding on the tip) girdled with glassy, twinned modified dolomite crystals with light-blue phengite along the bottom. Three nice minerals for the price of one . BETTER IN PERSON!.

Rose quartz is still a relative rarity when you really think on it, and this half-rosette is a true beauty. The color is a rich pink; the crystal form excellent and distinct; and the excellent luster tops it off wonderfully. This is a top miniature for the species.

Pics cannot adequately describe how beautiful this pair of Herkimers is. They are water clear with superb luster and complete all around. As with most clusters, I am sure it is repaired, though cleanly done. Everything you would want from a Herk, with terrific aesthetics to boot. This is a great thumbnail.

This is a nice quartz crystal with good clarity and luster. What makes it so unusual is that it has a vivid green phantom in it that is complete AND 3-dimensional as if it was laser-carved! Often you just see selected surfaces coated, but this phantom has the termination and the sides! There is minor damage to the tip of the oputer crystal but honestly who cares in this case ?? ...it in no way detracts from how neat the phantom is.

So far, this is a unique specimen from the find which also produced twinned crystals (below), and it showcases a COMPLETE-ALL-AROUND scalenohedral calcite measureing a whopping 14 x 7 x 7 cm, replaced by quartz! NO DAMAGE, COMPLETE, PRISTINE....it is a miracle this beast came out intact! It is an incredibly impressive (and large) specimen in person. Interestingly, there are oriented brown lines along the edges of the original calcite crystal (which seems to have actually been a twinned scaleno, now i think on it), and somehow these lines of color faithfullypreserve the original edges of the calcite, though they are ALSO quartz. I don't understand how we got this bicolor, oriented effect, but there it is....and luckily, as it makes for a more dramatic and unique specimen! I cannot rave about this one enough...

This is easily one of the most unique, novel, bizarre, fake-looking, and simply downright unusual specimens of quartz I have ever seen. It happens also to be from an old classic an dhighly desirable locale, too! A beautifully formed crystal of, translucent, pastel-amethystine quartz is the scepter atop a terminated shaft of translucent, green, hedenbergite-included quartz. When backlit, it practically glows with soft colors. The mineral gods were definitely working overtime to create this amazing, one of a kind, doubly terminated specimen. It is to me, one of the most striking pieces in this collection.

Fluorite on Quartz from Deardorff Mine, Hardin County, Illinois, USA [db_pics/pics/93bqc.jpg]

A VERY IMPORTANT LOCALITY SPECIMEN!!! Open for only ten years in the mid-1900s, the Deardorff Mine is not one of the household names when it comes to Illinois fluorite. However, it had a unique association of fluorite and quartz which remains one of th emost sought-after Illinois classics to this day. For whatever reasons, quartz is rare in the other nearby mines, particularly in association with good fluorite. This association, is both dramatic and classic for the mine - if in somewhat larger size than we usually see. The fluorite cubes, to 3.75 cm across, exhibit good luster and near-transparency along with a fine pastel- blue color. There is almost no damage except the most trivial nicks...it is nearly pristine! When viewed from the side there is a hint of color zoning with purple overtones. The lavender fluorescence adds to the beauty of this specimen. But it is the merger of the history and rare association here WITH quality of the fluorite itsel fthat makes it so valuable. I have purposefully chosen to leave the piece uncleaned with modern technology which could remove the iron pocket-staining and make the piece look too modern and sparkly. I llike the old look, in this case. It just has the feel of something non-Chinese, if that makes sense?!

Smoky Quartz (gwindel) from Giuv Valley, Tujetsch (Tavetsch), Switzerland [db_pics/pics/abrn-64b.jpg]

A stylish, elegant gwindel with a clearly twisted form, rare in colorless quartz from this locality. For some reason, nearly all are smokies, and a good colorless gwindel of this style is hard to come by. Undamaged, pristine, and complete 360 degrees so that it can be viewed from any side. NOTE: Not from the Hauck Collection. This is from the collection of Dr. Eric Asselborn, but it fit well with this update and so here it is.

This is one of my alltime favorite gwindels of any price range because it is so elegant in its composition, with a strongly twisted smoky of total transparency combined with a rich internal brightness, rising vertically from a slim matrix of normal prismatic quartz crystals that contrast the form of the gwindel so starkly. Matrix gwindels are uncommon, especially good ones of this quality - and it is undamaged, pristine, and complete 360 degrees so that it can be viewed from any side. NOTE: Not from the Hauck Collection. This is from the collection of Dr. Eric Asselborn, but it fit well with this update and so here it is.

An exceptional gold for this locality in terms of brightness. This is a tall, elogated, very elegant specimen that has a sparkling pizzazz to it, more than commonly seen from this deposit. The crystals are bright, like gold foil, and the intricacy of the gold "meshwork" contrasts with the elegant form that seems simple from far away, such that the piece is just better and better the more you look at it. This is my personal favorite style for an Eagle's Nest gold, and in person it just radiates color.

This specimen features a 2 x 1.5 x 1 cm apatite perched smartly atop a perfect quartz, partially enveloping the quartz termination. It is transparent, lustrous, glassy, and pristine. You couldn't have forged a better aesthetic miniature than this! In person, the apatite is more gemmy and has a faint hint of pastel color to it.
