Composed of unusually thickly-interwoven, lustrous, brassy yellow crystals of pyyrhotite to 6.5 cm on edge, this specimen also is decorated by a few lustrous black sphalerite crystals to 1 cm across. In addition, the whole specimen is studded with rounded aggregates of rhombohedral, tan siderite, to 5 mm across. Nice color contrast, and a sharp metallic, carved look to it, make this piece stand out. As well, it is HUGE for this old classic locale! This monster classic weighs 7.5 pounds!

The combination of arsenopyrite after pyrrhotite is definitely not one of the more common examples of pseudomorphism. In this specimen, the crystallographic outline of pyrrhotite is clearly visible as well as its luster. However, the mineral has changed from one to the other. this is a classic but very rare pseudo, and this particular piece is exquisitely formed and for what it is, about as aesthetic as you can ask for!

A HUGE , nearly floating cluster of brilliant bronze-colored pyrrhotite in exceptionally large crystals. This is ALMOST a floater, with just some attachment points on the back side and only a few minor bits of edge wear otherwise. One seldom sees pyrrhotite crystals of this size, from any locality; and from Russia large crystals tend to be of the other style that look more like stepped mounds than discretely crystallized in the stereotypic form, as with this specimen. An important, and I think reasonably priced, Russian specimen.

A dramatic single 8 mm gem crystal atop a perch of massive pyrrhotite, makes for a killer thumbnail specimen from this new find. The crystal is actually a macle twin on clos einspection, I now realize! You can see this more clearly in person, as the twin plane is shallow. I had never seen spinel from here, nor spinel on pyrrhotite (or other sulfides) from anywhere. The contrast is striking and , luckily, the spinels are of gem quality so these are good specimens on their own and not just new "locality pieces." These gem crystals have a unique lavender hue that sets them apart from other spinels we have seen out of Mogok and Sri Lanka.

Few specimens had more than one crystal exposed on matrix, that I know of from this find. This one features a dramatic single 8 mm gem crystal atop a perch of massive pyrrhotite, with a secondary crystal as well (not as gemmy, but still colorful and a nice accent). I had never seen spinel from here, nor spinel on pyrrhotite (or other sulfides) from anywhere. The contrast is striking and , luckily, the spinels are of gem quality so these are good specimens on their own and not just new "locality pieces." This is probably my favorite of the lot, for the sheer statrling contrast of the totally GEM CLEAR crystal on bright golden pyrrhotite (here, the contrast is most stark because the pyrrhotite is so bright and golden in color compared to others in the lot). This one features a dramatic single 7 mm gem crystal atop a perch of massive pyrrhotite. I had never seen spinel from here, nor spinel on pyrrhotite (or other sulfides) from anywhere. The contrast is striking and , luckily, the spinels are of gem quality so these are good specimens on their own and not just new "locality pieces." An old-time specimen of some note for the locality because of the richness and quallity of the pyrrhotite crystallization. This is nicely perched on contrasting pink rhodochrosite. Nice old classic, in unusually good quality, and from an old collection. Joe Budd photos

Ultra-sharp single bladed crystal sitting beautifully on an attractive matrix of black sphalerite and quartz crystals. The luster and color of the Pyrrhotite are excellent, and the presentation aesthetics are superb. One of the finest Pyrrhotites I have seen from this famous mine in any size.

Another superb Pyrrhotite from one of the world痴 great localities. This terrific specimen has two gorgeous hexagonal crystals, each over 1 cm across and thick, sitting on a matrix of black sphalerite and quartz. The brassy color and luster are unmatched, and there is even a hint of iridescence. A killer specimen.
