Pyrophyllite - Graves Mountain, Lincoln Co., Georgia, USA

7.9 x 6.5 x 4.3 cm. Pyrophyllite is a rare species that forms these really interesting radial bursts of shimmering, silver/coppery crystals. This is a rich specimen of solid pyrophyllite from Graves Mountain, more famous for its rutiles. For the locality, it’s quite good! For the species, its also good, a fortunate merger.

15.4 x 11.5 x 5.8 cm. A solid large cabinet specimen of radiating sprays of pearlescent, tan to brown pyrophyllite lathes from a historic North Carolina locality - Orange County. This is classic, old-time material, certainly 100 years old or older, from the Joseph Wilcox and Philadelphia Academy of Sciences Collections. Specimens of this old-time size and quality are rarely found in dealers stocks. Joseph Wilcox was a prominent Pennsylvania collector and museum curator who lived from 1829-1918.

Pyrophyllite - Hillsboro District, Orange Co., North Carolina, USA

This species is rarely found in dealers stocks, and when it is found, the crystals are small and insignificant and generally the pieces unworthy of any collection. This specimen has a 3-D, sculptural quality, with two groups of diverging, golden, lustrous, clusters, which just happen to converge on each other, forming a pyrophyllite mound, 5.0 cm across. To top this off, the pyrophyllite sits on a solid quartz matrix. MAJOR for the species, and the locality! 9.6 x 5.5 x 5.4 cm
