This specimen with unusually bright, brassy yellow, intergrown pyrite crystals also contains a large crystal of bornite plunked in the middle! The black, sharp bornite crystal is 3.1 cm in length. AMAZING size and quality for the bornite, especially from this locality! this is a world class piece, though, beyond its significance for the locale! What makes it so special is that often the bornites from here or anywhere are on boring matrix. this one has pizzazz! 6.7 x 5.5 x 1.8 cm

These are slightly elongated cubes of brassy, mirror bright, unmodified, pyrite. This habit, from Peru, may actually be rarer than that of the octahedrons. The largest crystal is doubly terminated and measures 4.9 cm in length. They are nearly pristine on the display face, with just minor edge wear there and some on back sides as well (it IS there, but it doesnt detract too much, to me). This is a superior pyrite specimen WAY BEYOND the average and mass-produced material. Seldom do you see them so finely articulated, and in a cluster with such individuality 7.1 x 5.3 x 4.6 cm

Two, almost pristine, large, mirror bright, brassy yellow, modified octahedrons of pyrite are intergrown. This specimen is also characterized by preferential etching on the octahedral faces. The largest crystal measures 6.0 cm on a side. Specimens of this quality are seen very rarely and NOT to be treated with common disdain for a common species! This is SPECTACULAR and of rare quality, quite apart fomr the wholesale rubbish we see so much of. 7.9 X 7.6 X 3.5 cm

This has to be th emost elegant, sculptural cluster pulled out of the mine, or damn close! It is simply exquisite in form, and of a quality so high it makes for a competition-class pyrite small cabinet piece. The speicmen is prominently figured in the chapter on Butte mines, in Gem & Crystal Treasures . 6.9 x 4.6 x 2.5 cm

A excellent and UNUSUAL specimen famous Nanisivik Mine, above the Arctic Circle, on Baffin Island, Canada. Lustrous, doubly terminated, amber calcite crystals are preferentially included with pyrite and coated with pyrite. This showy piece is complete all-around and only has one small point of attachment. Ex Marty Lewadny Collection. 3.9 x 2.8 x 2.7 cm

An EXCELLENT, classic, old-time CABINET combination specimen from the famed Herja Mine of Romania. Cream-colored calcite crystals are very aesthetically set on sparkly, yellow-green siderite crystal discs and on a brassy nest of pyrite. The notecard indicates that the piece was collected in 1967 10.5 x 9.6 x 4.2 cm

Hematite, Pyrite, Quartz from Traversella, Chiusella Valley, Canavese District, Torino Province, Piedmont, Italy [db_pics/mdpics/MD-69329a.jpg]

A rare locality piece consisting of aestheic groups of spherical hematite rosettes with milky quartz on a pyrite matrix. The hematite roses are up to 2.6 cm across and have a shiny, gun-metal luster. The hematite roses are free of any obvious damage. The quartz crystals are well terminated and make for an interesting contrast to the hematite. Great old Ward’s label included with Hauck label. MY FIRST ASSUMPTION ON SEEIN GTHIS WAS "ANOTHER ELBA PIECE..." BUT ITS NOT! SUCH HEMATITES FROM THE PIEDMONT ARE IN FACT MUCH MORE RARE! 7.9 x 4.5 x 3.8 cm

WOW....One of the most sculptural pyrites from Peru we have ever seen. The piece consists of small, shiny pyrite bars to 2.7 cm, interconnected to form just a superb miniature. The specimen represents a very unique example of a very common mineral. Hauck has a noted pyrite subcollection! 4.0 x 2.3 x 1.6 cm

Interesting, near-floater crystal of pyrite from the classic old location of Rio Marina on the Island of Elba. These mines have been producing pyrite for hundreds of years and this is certainly a well-formed one of classic style! The top half of the crystal is a large-faced pyritohedron, nicely formed with bright luster and sharp edges. The bottom half of the crystal is complexly terminated, still with bright luster but almost flat, with many stepped crystal faces. A very nice pyrite from this great Italian location. Old Ward’s, Scott Williams Minerals Co., and Hauck collection labels accompany the piece. 7.3 x 6.0 x 4.3 cm

Sharp single crystal of pyrite on steatite (talc) from one of the classic Vermont pyrite locations of Perkinsville. This slightly modified cube is beautifully formed and has a interesting patina on the crystal faces. The crystal is rectangular in form, with sides up to 2.3 cm. Outstanding specimen for the pyrite or US collector and so rar ein this quality! Hugh Ford, Edna Doughty collection, and Hauck collection labels are included with piece. 6.9 x 5.0 x 3.2 cm

Bright shiny group of pyrite crystals from the classic Colorado pyrite location. These main crystal in the group is up to 4.2 cm on edge. All of the crystals have highly reflective faces with striations, typical for the location, along with nice sharp edges. Minor edge wear present on some of the edges. With the mines closed, these pyrites have become highly desired and really good ones are more and more difficult to obtain. This is of incredible quality for the locality! 5.7 x 4.9 x 4.5 cm

If you can get past the fact that they are "just" pyrites, you have to admit that these PERFECT cubes on matrix from Spain are amongst the most striking crystals in the mineral kingdom. Non-mineral people usually cannot believe that they form naturally, in fact! This is a LARGE, PRISTINE cube, wonderfully isolated and fully exposed on the matrix. It measures 2.7 cm on edge and has a mirror-golden luster. A fabulous-looking specimen! 8.3 x 6.1 x 6.1 cm

Well, we have pinned down the locality for this amazing new find now: Chenzhou. And what a dazzling find it is! On selective edges of the calcite crystals on this large cluster is bright, golden pyrite - even brighter and more amazing than the pics show! The result is so dramatic and eye-catching! Got this about a month ago from a close and good contact in China who brings us now and then wonderful new things that have not been seen yet....these are SO pretty, in person. We have the best of the lot so far, and are waiting to see if more come. For now, though, this IS a good one - in fact, even better than the pics show, because since it was photographed, we trimmed it a bit to make it notably better! 13.7 x 9.9 x 6.7 cm

An EXCEPTIONAL and VERY RARE in this quality cluster of mirror-bright, brass-yellow pyritohedrons with needle quartz from the famous Bingham Canyon open pit copper mine of Utah. Well-developed crystals of ANY SPECIES are UNCOMMON from Bingham Canyon and this is a great one. This piece comes with two old labels - one of which, is the Schortmanns label stating on the back that this piece was from their sale in New York City in 1952! Not cheap in 1952 at $4! Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 5.4 x 3.7 x 3.4 cm
