A perfect, pristine ball of sparkly pyrite isolated in the middle of a shale matrix - a dramatic old German specimen. The pyrite is brighter in person! 9.1 x 8.5 x 2.6 cm
Elsewhere in this auction is a specimen from this same pocket of a pyrite ball on matrix. Here are two FLOATERS from the same find: a perfect ball, and an intergrown "triple" ball. Very sparkly and cute. 2.8 x 2.3 x 1.5; 1.8 x 1.8 x 1.8 cm
A SHARP, highly lustrous, undamaged, brass-yellow, pyrite bar from the famous Amax Buick Mine in the Viburnum Trend of Missouri. Ex Marty Lewadny Collection. Older material and seldom available. 7.0 x 3.6 x 2.0 cm
These beautiful pyrite "suns" formed between layers of the ancient shale beds in what is now Illinois. They look like pyritized sand dollars, and they are floaters, just as pretty on both sides. 7.4 x 7.3 x .4 cm
An EXCELLENT and showy specimen of mirror-finish, brass-yellow, pyrite octohedrons nicely set on needle quartz matrix from Butte, Montana. A super locality piece from the Ed Ruggiero Collection. OLD material! 6.0 x 4.0 x 2.2 cm
An AESTHETIC, flower-like cluster of MIRROR-FINISH, striated, brass-yellow pyrite cubes from the famous Nanisivik Mine of Canada. EXCELLENT material from the Lewadny Collection. MUCH, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON. 6.5 x 5.5 x 4.0 cm
These beautiful, lustrous pyrite floater "suns" formed between an ancient bed of shale and clay near Sparta, Illinois. This one is complete all-around and front and back. 8.7 x 8.7 x 0.7 cm
A beautifully symmetrical, highly arching, very nearly pristine, lustrous pyritized spirifer brachiopod from the Devonian of Sylvania, Ohio. This specimen has excellent bi-lateral symmetry and comes from a quarry west of Toledo. 4.7 x 3.4 x 3.2 cm
A beautiful and excellent combination specimen from Romania of lustrous, twinned, black sphalerite crystals to 1.2 cm with lustrous chalcopyrite and pyrite crystals on a bed of transparent, needle quartz crystals. Ex. Ed Ruggiero Collection, who purchased this piece in May, 1987. This is one of the last pieces that Ed ever purchased, as he quit collecting in 1987. A bit of periphery damage is certainly not detracting. None of the major sulfide crystals are damaged. 9.7 x 8.8 x 3.0 cm
An EXCELLENT, old-time Butte specimen of lustrous, mirror-finish, brass-yellow, partially iridescent pyritohedrons to 1.2 cm with lustrous, iridescent purple, enargite crystals to 0.7 cm. The snow-white cluster of selenite blades really adds character to this piece, which is glued to a cut piece of gold-painted plywood. The scattered damage to this classic Butte combination piece is certainly not detracting. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 7.1 x 5.2 x 4.0 cm
A really fine, realy sharp, miraculously undamaged cube of classic Spanish pyrite! It is complete and symmetric ALL around save only for one smaller crystal growing at an angle out of one face (can be displayed on the back if that bother you - i like it, personally). 5.6 x 4.8 x 3.9 cm
A rather unusual large plate of bournonite crystals, all showing sharp UNTWINNED crystals to 2.25 cm in size. This is actually more uncommon, compared to the twinne dform of the mineral. The crystals form this locality are sharp and gun-metal lustrous, making for very dramatic bournonites. The matrix contrasts a bit more in person than it appears, and is coated with sparkly druse of other sulfides such as pyrite. This is a rich, large, unrepaired piece of high quality from the amazing finds here of several years ago. 13.4 x 11.4 x 2.6 cm
An EXTREMELY FINE and AESTHETIC cluster of undamaged, lustrous, brass-yellow pyrite cubes to 1.0 cm on massive pyrite matrix from the famous Nanisivik Iron Mine on Baffin Island, Canada, north of the Arctic Circle. Excellent material from the Lewadny Collection. This fine piece has multiple display possibilities, as you can see. 6.9 x 3.5 x 3.0 cm
Beautifully striated, highly lustrous, brass-yellow pyrite cubes to 3.5 cm from the famous Huanzala Mine of Peru. Examples, such as this, even though there is damage to smaller crystals and minor damage to a side of the large crystal, make Huanzala pyrites the best in the world. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. MUCH better in person. 4.7 x 4.3 x 3.7 cm
A very nearly pristine, sharp, lustrous, striated, rust-brown, floater goethite after pyrite crystal from an uncommon Arizona locality, Silver Zone Pass. There is jus a small bruise on one face, otherwise perfect ALL around! Ex Ed Ruggiero Collection, who purchased this piece in February, 1975. 3.5 x 3.1 x 2.7 cm
