8.7 x 5.4 x 3.8 cm. A rich specimen of the rare manganese phosphate purpurite, showing the typical intense violet color. Unlike most on the market from South Africa (when you do see them), this is an AMERICAN specimen, from the Pack Rat Mine in California. It is an older piece, out of the Chuck Houser collection.

5.4 x 4.6 x 1.9 cm. Purpurite is the very rare phosphate of manganese, with specimens usually coming from the manganese-rich area of Southwest Africa. It is prized for both its rarity and its intense purple color. There is iridescent purpurite on both sides of this rich specimen! It came out of the Carlton Davis collection.

4.6 x 4.1 x 2.4 cm. Purpurite is a rare, purple phosphate primarily found in complex pegmatites as an alteration product of lithiophyllite. This is a rare, unique and fine combination/pseudomorph specimen from the Pack Rat Mine of San Diego County. A sharply terminated, earthy-brown tantalite crystal has partially pseudomorphed to purple purpurite. Complete all-around and nearly pristine. Older material from the Chuck Houser Collection.

A very rare and unusual creature, this is a large phosphate crystal from San Diego County. Few large phosphates ever turn up in these gem pegmatites. This one features a large crystal of triphyllite, replaced by purpurite.
