Mineral Specimens with Powellite

3 x 2.5 x 1.4 cm. Excellent specimen of rare Cuprian-Powellite. The beautiful dark apple-green color and the luster are both superb. There is even a small pocket of partially complete crystals up to about .3 or .4 cm on edge, which is really quite amazing. Excellent green fluorescence. An exceptional thumbnail for this material found only at this remote locality in a few pockets over 10 years ago. Ex. Charlie Key stock.
14.0 x 8.0 x 5.5 cm. An EXCELLENT and very showy Indian CABINET combination piece. The center of the piece is highlighted by a mounded cluster of gemmy, lustrous and striated, tetragonal, amber powellite crystals to 2.5 cm. A large, glassy, green, blocky apophyllite is a very nice compliment to the pastel-pink stilbite matrix.
2.1 x 1.6 x 1.5 cm. An exquisite Indian thumbnail of a gem, water-clear calcite crystal beautifully perched atop a lustrous, striated, light amber powellite crystal from Nasik. The calcite crystal is quite complex on this very cute piece from the George Feist Collection #1596.
5 x 3.7 x 3.3 cm. Each partially gemmy powellite crystal has a bright silky luster with vertical striations. Most of the dozen or so crystals are pristine. Ex. Charlie Key.
4.9 x 3.2 x 2 cm. A superb specimen of Cuprian-Powellite from the same famous locality as the discovery of Szenicsite. The apple to grass green Powellite is both gemmy and lustrous. This layer of crystals ranges up to an amazing 1.4 cm thick at its greatest. Ex. Charlie Key.
This is one of two dozen or so important, large, powellite crystals that came out of a lucky-strike a few years ago, and simply redefined what you could want in a major powellite specimen! This is one of the handful of known larger pieces at the top quality level from the pocket, and was quickly sold to Wein in Germany when they came out. Perhaps under 10 specimens exist of this magnitude (and some are much more pricey, too, though smaller in size). This yellow-orange crystal is over 6 cm in height and 4 cm wide with a PERFECT razor-sharp pointed termination the likes of which you rarely see on powellite crystals. It is embedded in and impaled by slender, contrasting gemmy crystals of scolecite - a characteristic unique to this pocket which makes pieces instantly recognizable and also more desirable than plain old powellites on stilbite. It is complete all around save conacted on the back (but lower down, away from the termination). It only recently became available last fall when this collection was broken up (all the other major pieces from this pocket are spoken for and housed in collections, and won't be available anytime soon!), and I took the oppurtunity at Tucson to make an exchange for the specimen . 10 x 9.5 x 6 cm
A sharp pyramidal crystal that is very lustrous, bright, and gemmy! IN person, has a deeper yellow color than shown here. COMPLETE all around, save contacts at the base! Fluorescent, too 2.5 x 2 x 2 cm
12.0 x 8.0 x 4.7 cm. A superb Indian cabinet combination specimen. A huge, diamond-like, 3.1 cm, gemmy, honey-yellow, pseudo-octahedral powellite crystal is the crowning glory atop the tiara-like cluster of snow-white scolecite blades. The scolecite "tiara" is further accented with few, emerald-like, blocky, pastel-green fluorapophyllite crystals across the top of the specimen. The powellite is pristine, complete all-around and has excellent yellowish-white fluorescence.

A killer powellite thumbnail with a sharp and VERY gemmy transparent crystal! IN person, has a deeper yellow color than shown here. COMPLETE all around, perched on a pedestal of etched powellite under the crystal! 2.5 x 1.5 x 1.5 cm
3.5 x 3 x 2.5 cm. Here is a fine powellite specimen, for size, luster and translucency. The larger crystal sits on a natural “base” of a smaller crystal, with a spray of scolecite on it.
3.3 x 3.3 x 2.5 cm. A sharp, fine cluster of lustrous blue-green Powellites up to 1.5 cm on edge. The color is very unusal, and quite attractive, likely caused by the presence of Celadonite inclusions. The fluorescence is superb. Ex. Charlie Key.
An unusual specimen with BOTH yellow and green powellite crystals, though on opposite sides of the piece !?! The color on each is due to copper, perhaps of differing amounts? This specimen was colleced by and is from the collection of Skip Szenics, discoverer of Szenicsite at this locality 4 x 3.5 x 3 cm
Powellite (a solid solution series member with Scheelite) is hard to find itself, but almost never seen beyond opaque crystals. These crystals have everything you would want from any pow: excellent clarity; nice light to medium amber color; and superb luster. This piece has exceptional display qualities for these reasons and also because of the way the crystals are balanced on the right amount of matrix, for contrast. They are complete and pristine in front, though contacted in back. This specimen is way beyond almost any other Powellite you will find for the size and price. 3.3 x 2 x 2 cm
9.4 x 8.8 x 5.6 cm. This is a highly unusual specimen for the intensity of color to the powellite. The crystal has not only intense orange color, but also a glassy lustre that is equally outstanding. The contrast to the matrix of sparkling quartz druse, on which sits bright and lustrous, shimmering apophyllite crystals, just takes the piece to the next level. It is an outstanding piece for the species and locality.
WOW! THIS IS A STEALLAR POWELLITE MINIATURE IN EVERY WAY, featuring a sharp, vertical cluster culminating in a perfect pyramidal termination atop a small bit of contrasting apophyllite matrix. It is contacted only at the lower half of the back face but otherwise is is complete all around, including the full termination 4.4 x 2.9 x 2.8 cm
