LGC-25 - Plumbogummite with Pyromorphite - $ 3000 SOLD Roughton Gill, Caldbeck Fells, Cumberland, Cumbria, England small cabinet, 6.1 x 5.3 x 4.3 cm ex. Lindsay Greenbank
A quartz matrix is encrusted with lustrous and translucent, deep sky blue, botryoidal plumbogummite, to 2 mm across . It is very sparkly and has classic color, from these old finds of the mid - 1860s. Upon plumbogummite, are emplaced equant, lustrous, bright green, pyromorphite crystals to 5 mm in length The color and texture contrasts are striking and unusually well developed. An old piece, formerly in the collections of both Ralph Sutcliffe in the 1960's then to A.Walshaw, before Greenbank, though prior history is now lost. It surely dates to the glory finds here, though, in the mid 1800s.

14.8 x 10.8 x 7.4 cm. A carpet of elongated crystals of yellow mimetite have been pseudomorphed by fellow lead-mineral plumbogummite -- PbAl3(PO4)2(OH)5•(H2O). There are a few little dings which allow you to see how a thick layer of the pea-colored plumbogummite has formed around the bright yellow, translucent crystals of mimetite.

8.7 x 6.7 x 2.2 cm. A striking specimen of finger-like and bubbly, blue-green plumbogummite partially pseudomorphing yellow-green mimetite crystals on a 3-dimensional, plumbogummite-covered quartz matrix plate from the 2005 find at the Yangshuo Pb-Zn Mine of China. The scattered broken crystals show the unaltered, mimetite interiors. The Yangshuo Mine is on the other side of the mountain from the Daoping Mine, source of most of the Chinese pyromorphite.

8.9 x 6.9 x 2.8 cm. This fine and rich specimen was illustrated in the "What’s New from Munich" section of the March/April, 2007 issue of the Mineralogical Record, Vol. 38, No. 2, p. 162. Teal-blue plumbogummite covers crystals and a crust of yellow mimetite on quartz from the Yangshuo Mine of China, which is on the other side of the mountain from the Daoping Mine.

8.5 x 6 x 4.8 cm. A really rich and fine plumbogummite specimen with blue-green color, unusual. It is a rich carpet, though with a few bruises here and there. You can see that it covers large crystals of quartz, whereas nearly all other specimens cover massive quartz.

5.9 x 4 x 2.7 cm. An excellent representative plumbogummite specimen with good finger structure and coverage, and with only some small damages. However, it’s also clearly a pseudomorph with complete alteration from mimetite as the weight/heft is exceedingly light. The color in the close-up is accurate, more so than the full shot.

The plumbogummite has grown on all sides, making this an enclosed floater matrix piece. It is very thick and 3-dimensional, quite a bit more attractive in person. The texture is very velvety and attractive. This is one of the largest intact specimens recovered.
