Phenakites are highly sought-after, and this little gem should definitely be in the hunt. Aside from being small, it is perfect in every way: clear and ultra-sharp, with a wonderful complex and complete crystal form. It is complete all around save the bottom face which is a flattish contact plane. If you didn’t know it was a Phenakite, you would swear it was a killer Herkimer Diamond.

This is a truly oustanding, significant, world class phenakite specimen from the important finds here of the 1940s and early 1950s (the "Pough era" as some call it). It has only recently been sold to me out of a private collection and has some history with it which will come with purchase. I have NEVER seen such a significant Brazilian phenacite for sale, and this blew me away when it turned up. It is complete all around as you can see from the front and back shots, nicely crystallized on both sides. To me, this weird and exotic mineral is much more interesting than just another tourmaline for the price, and far more irreplaceable.

This unusual, elongated and pointed-tipped crystal of phenakite is from a small find made in about 2004, which was brought out by Italian dealers and experts in Madagascar minerals, Emanuele Marini and Federico Pezzotta. It was at the time, the best matrix example from the pocket, which they had for sale. To this day, despite finds of the mineral at other localities, i have never seen another quite like this. The crystal is actually doubly-terminated, and is 5 cm long. It is not repaired, and was expertly exposed in this matrix of calcite. Joe Budd photos.

A sharp, lustrous and translucent colorless 1.4 cm blocky phenakite rhomb aesthetically perched on albite with muscovite matrix. This is an excellent phenakite crystal in itself and was self-collected by Al Partee with Dr. Steve Neely and Ralph Clark in the mid-1980s. This piece had the greatest sentimental value to Al and was the hardest for him to part with, he told me. 4.0 x 3.5 x 2.7 cm

2.5 x 2.5 x 1.9 cm. Phenakite is an uncommon beryllium silicate found in granite pegmatites and schists. This glassy, translucent and colorless, euhedral crystal has both stepped-growth and striated faces. This is a large, for the species, Colorado crystal and hails from the much less common Mt. White of Chaffee County. This is a classic and excellent mineral specimen from the Colorado Rockies.
