1.4 x 1.3 x 0.8 cm. A superb, gem crystal of peridot with excellent grass-green color (not the frequent murkier green) - from the premier peridot locality. It is extremely gemmy, with the typical silky surface luster. Perfect form, no contacts or damage.

Forsterite (Var: Peridot) from St John's Island (Zagbargad; Zabargad; Zebirget; Seberged; Topazios), Red Sea, Egypt [db_pics/mdpics/MD-222526a.jpg]

1.7 x 1.1 x 0.3 cm. A gem peridot crystal from the classic locale for gem forsterite - St. John’s Island in the Red Sea off Egypt. This ancient locality was mined for peridot or "night emerald" as it was called, in the time of the Egyptian pharaohs. This is a locale now long gone and to my knowledge not collected from after the early 1900s at latest. In fact, the site is now under the Mediterranean. This is a superb, historic gem crystal and a fine thumbnail as well.

4.8 x 4.3 x 3.2 cm. A fine matrix cluster of equant, lustrous, lime-green peridot crystals from Soppat, Pakistan. This is a classic and very uncommon matrix example of what have become some of the finest peridot crystals in the world. No world locality has produced the quality and quantity of euhedral peridot crystals like Soppat. A few of the crystals are gem quality, cutter material, while the rest are gemmy/translucent. In different lighting, sun vs. fluorescent, the color is different, please note. The crystals are all pristine on the display view. These were relatively common for a short while and now are hard to get. Ex. Wes Parker Collection.

3.2 x 2.0 x 1.6 cm. This crystal has unusually good, intense lime-green color and internal clarity. You can see inside the needle-like crystals of ludwigite, for which this locality is known. This crystal is unusually equant and 3-dimensional, rather than "squished" into 2 dimensions as most Pakistani peridots are, and in form is thus more prismatic and beryl-like. Complete-all-around. Ex. Laura and Stevia Thompson Collection.

3.5 x 2.2 x 1.2 cm. This is one of the more beautiful miniatures I have seen, as it has sharp crystals and a high gemminess to it. Many larger peridots from here tend to be murky and dull, and rounded. This, though, is a gorgeous lime-green.

8.2 x 7.1 x 6.8 cm. Gemmy and lustrous forsterite variety peridot crystals comprise nearly this entire volcanic bomb fragment of olivine crystals from a much less well-known locale in New Mexico - the Kilbourne Hole in Dona Ana County. Most of the crystals are olive-green, with some being a surprising emerald-green. Crystals reach 7 mm. A black accessory mineral adds character. Older material, seldom available.

5.8 x 5.4 x 4.5 cm. A pleasing matrix cluster of equant, lustrous, lime-green peridot crystals to 2.1 cm from Soppat, Pakistan. This is a classic and very uncommon matrix example of what have become some of the finest peridot crystals in the world. Several of the crystals are gem quality, cutter material, while the rest are gemmy/translucent. The crystals are all pristine on the display view, except for minor periphery wear.

A fat, and exceptionally well-terminated peridot crystal! Peridot crystals of size are usually somewhat rounded, and to get a crystal of this gemmy, transparent quality, so thick, and with such a wonderfully basal termination, is very uncommon. As an added bonus, it is included by sharp, vertical, crystals of the rare species Ludwigite , which makes for a stark contrast. 2.8 x 2 x 1.1 cm

This exceptional cluster of lime-green crystals is rare in several regards. One, it is large without having gone "lumpy" as so many larger periodots seem to do. Sharp crystals of such size are EXTREMELY uncommon. Secondly, it is complete and undamaged all around, and displays magnificently as a small cab gem crystal for a species we normally expect to see only in miniature and smaller sizes. Lastly, it positively glows with color when backlit, going from pale lime to intense lime green. When displayed properly in a showcase, this one has IMPACT. I cannot overemphasize how rare such a large cluster is. But , aside from that, the sharp terminations and excellent display qualities make it truly significant - and I do not use the word lightly. Weight opn this hefty piece is 175 grams. 6.1 x 3.7 x 3.5 cm

An unusually fat, equant, and well-terminated crystal with juicy lime-green color! It is transparent and extremely attractive in person, especially when backlit. 2 x 1.6 x 1.5 cm

A perfect, pristine gem crystal of peridot, with textbook form and chisel tip, and fine bright color. Rarely do we get them so sharply terminated! 2.8 x 1.2 x 1.0 cm
