Nickeline - Keeley-Frontier Mine (Canadian Keeley; Frontier Mine; Keeley Mine), South Lorrain Township, Cobalt-Gowganda region, Timiskaming District, Ontario, Canada

5.9 x 4.3 x 1.4 cm. Another Canadian rarity, a rich and heavy (polished) specimen of nickeline (nickel arsenide) from the cobalt district of Canada. According to Mindat, the name came "From the German nickname for the ore miners called kupfernickel (copper nickel); after Old Nick and his mischievous gnomes, because the ore seemed to contain copper but yielded none.") This hefty polished slab weighs 2.8 ounces despite its thin size! HEAVY stuff! This is old material from a classic ,now defunct, locality.

5.4 x 3.1 x 0.7 cm. This is a rich, 1.3-ounce specimen of silver in a natural amalgam with the nickel-arsenide "niccolite", from the Capitol-Siscoe Mine in Canada. It has been sliced and polished on one side. You can see that except for a bit of quartz, this is just about solid silver and nickeline.

3.3 x 2.2 x 1.3 cm. A rare, very rich solid specimen of metallic-bright, brassy, hexagonal nickeline crystals to 3 mm nicely accented with baryte on this fine, old-time piece from Eisleben, Germany. Nickeline is the combination of the two elements, nickel and arsenic. Accompanied by an old, handwritten German label. The collection this came out of was a museum stash dating to prior to World War I.

10.8 x 7.0 x 1.2 cm. A Canadian rarity, a rich slabbed-and-polished ore specimen of a bifurcating vein of lustrous, rose-gold nickeline (nickel arsenide) from the famous Cobalt District of Canada. Interesting chemistry here, as the nickeline suddenly stops in the veins and the veins continue as quartz. The matrix appears to be a gabbro. Both the polished and unpolished (second photo) sides of the slab are shown. Weighs 270 grams.
