MD-250211 - Nepheline, Schorlomite - - Archived Bou-Agrao Mt., Tamazeght complex, High Atlas Mts, Khénifra Province, Meknès-Tafilalet Region, Morocco small cabinet, 6.0 x 4.4 x 3.8 cm.
6.0 x 4.4 x 3.8 cm. An excellent and uncommon combination specimen from the High Atlas Mountains of Morroco - Bou-Agrao Mt. A large vug is lined with sharp, hexagonal, grayish-white nepheline crystals to 1.8 cm and nicely complimentary, lustrous, jet-black crystals of schorlomite. The textabook, dodechedral crystals reach 1.5 cm. Schorlomite is a rare garnet group member and much of the material labeled "schorlomite" is, strictly speaking, titanian andradite. Excellent, highly representative combination material of the species and locale.
ORDWAY-13 - Nepheline with Schorlomite garnet - $ 600 Bou-Agrao Mt., Tamazeght complex, High Atlas Mts, Khenifra Province, Morocco small cabinet, 8.8 x 6.0 x 4.2 cm ex. Al Ordway
A rare combination of superb sharp nepheline crystals nestled in matrix of minute schorlomite (a rare garnet family member): Nestled aesthetically in a vug are sharp hexagonal prisms, to 2 cm in length, of the uncommon sodium, potassium silicate, nepheline. The crystals are a light tan color and are textbook sharp. In addition, there are a few, very lustrous, black, partially terminated crystals of a rare member of the garnet family, schlorlomite.
