Prehnite, Apophyllite-(KF) from Kandivali Quarry, Malad, Ward 38, Mumbai (Bombay), Mumbai District (Bombay District), Maharashtra, India [db_pics/mdpics/MD-139124b.jpg]

10.8 x 5.8 x 5.3 cm. You can see how elegant this gorgeous specimen is, but what you cannot see is the beautiful COLOR (the camera just could not pick it up) - a wonderful pastel light mint green. This is a hollow cast of prehnite that has pseudomorphed laumontite (seen in a different form from New Jersey due to the different form of the underlying laumontites), from India. The laumontite is completely gone, leaving these delicate casts, on which later, little blocky apophyllites grew to decorate the surface. Beautiful!

10.5 x 9.7 x 6.2 cm. A VERY SHOWY vug in CABINET basalt matrix lined with lustrous analcime crystals, many included with iron oxides and nicely accented by two, glassy, tabular apophyllite crystals from a famous Italian locality - Lafreider Holle, Seis Alp, South Tyrol. Classic and fine material from the Rolf Wein Collection, a noted Alpine collector. He purchased this piece in 1987.

12.9 x 9.9 x 9.2 cm. Nestled in a dense bed of zeolites is a BIG, GEMMY crystal of apophyllite, with a couple of smaller ones in the foreground. This crystal measures 5 cm across the front! Its top is wonderfully gemmy - much better in person, the camera had trouble picking it up - but it is extremely bright and sharp, in addition to having great size. No damage to these crystals!

Apophyllite-(KF), Chlorite Group from Mahodari, Nasik District, Maharashtra, India [db_pics/mdpics/MD-145049a.jpg]

6.2 x 4.9 x 3.4 cm. These chlorite-included apophyllites from Mahodri have a unique look, as you can see. The dense chlorite inclusions give the blocky crystal an opaque, marble-like look. Here, the back of the crystal has grown against a thin sheet of matrix, stopping its growth and giving it a naturally stepped form.

18.4 x 16.0 x 10.4 cm. A BIG, SHOWY Indian combo specimen, with beautiful aesthetics! In the foreground of this carefully trimmed matrix is a cluster of SUPER-GEMMY apophyllites. This cluster measures about 5.5 cm from side to side. Right behind this, running along the middle of the specimen, is a rich cluster of peachy stilbites, closely intergrown, with a pearly luster. You can see how wonderfully the specimen was trimmed, creating a perfect setting for this striking combination.

8.2 x 6.2 x 3.7 cm. This specimen consists of dozens of tabular, white crystals of Apophyllite measuring up to 1.4 cm which are sitting on Basalt matrix. The quarry at Upper New Street is over 100 years old (it opened in 1893). During the mid 1980’s to early 1990’s, there was a lot of collecting that took place between the Upper New Street and Lower Street Quarries in an area that is affectionately referred to by some as "Middle New Street". Ex. Brian Kosnar Collection.

14.0 x 8.0 x 5.5 cm. An EXCELLENT and very showy Indian CABINET combination piece. The center of the piece is highlighted by a mounded cluster of gemmy, lustrous and striated, tetragonal, amber powellite crystals to 2.5 cm. A large, glassy, green, blocky apophyllite is a very nice compliment to the pastel-pink stilbite matrix.
