In this basaltic vug are some of the deepest, emerald green, gemmy, fluorapophyllite crystals, exhibiting great luster, I have yet seen from India. These crystals which get lighter in color near their basal pinacoidal terminations, reach 6 cm in length. Associated with the emerald green fluorapophyllite crystals are several doubly terminated, white, stilbite crystals, to almost 5 cm across, which exhibit an incredible pearly luster. I am constantly amazed at the volume and quality of minerals still produced by India. However, within that volume, some finds just stand out as unique and collectible at a level far above the crowd. Material from this pocket, more of which will come below, exemplifies the idea that cherrypicking a large contemporary production from a locality can give you a unique collection that really stands out from the crowd, if you pick the novel pieces rather than just more of the same. This piece REALLY fits that bill, as being special. It is somewhat better in person, I think, as the darkness in the interior diminishes the photo. 13 x 8.2 x 6.2 cm
A thin matrix of weathered basalt hosts pure white blades of stilbite to 3 cm across, complementing two emerald-green fluorapophyllite crystals to 2.25 cm in length. The color is superb! the lustre is glassy! The stilbite displays a high degree of pearlescent luster and the fl-apophyllites, which have flat basal pinacoidal terminations, are gemmy and extremely lustrous. In fact, the larger fl-apophyllite is doubly terminated. 7.1 x 5 x 1.8 cm
This is another superb, natural, “floater”. The luster of the smaller crystals emits a sparkle than gives the whole specimen a jewel-like appearance, like nothing els eI have seen from here. IT IS LITERALLY a jewel of a specimen, like multifaceted glass, throwing reflections all over the place. It features a doubly terminated, transparent, lustrous, light pink, fluorapophyllite crystal, to 4.5 cm in length, surrounded by a host of smaller apophyllite crystals of the same color (caused by freckles of matrix attached to the back shining through). This is a unique, and exceptional, specimen that warrants a price higher than just a typical clear apophyllite might...and in person, teh reason is obvious, i assure you. 5 x 4.4 x 2.3 cm
An almost 2 cm tall, doubly terminated, light emerald green, fluorapophyllite crystal, rises above its light grayish-white stilbite, to 2.5 cm across, neighbors. Both the fl-apophyllite and stilbite exhibit great luster. 4 x 2.2 x 1.8 cm
If you collect thumbnail size specimens, this needs to be in your collection. An absolutely pristine, 1.5 cm tall, gemmy and lustrous, light emerald green, doubly terminated fluorapophyllite is attached to minor white stilbite. A simply KILLER, and relatively inexpensive for that descriptor, thumbnail! 1.7 x 1.5 x .9 cm
This specimen, because of its deep emerald green color and crystallography, is reminiscent of the very best fluorapophyllites that came out of this area of India more than 25 years ago. Although not on matrix, this specimen does have pearlescent stilbite crystals, to .6 cm across, nestled among the fluorapophyllite crystals with pyramidal terminations. The largest of the lustrous fl-apophyllite crystals measures 2 cm tall. In person it has a GORGEOUS and incendiary color, the most intense green you will EVER find in an Indian green apoph... 4 x 2.8 x 2.6 cm
An unusual association piece! Nestled among colorless, gemmy fluorapophyllite crystals are several tan, bi-pyramidal powellite crystals. Both species are very lustrous. The largest fl-apophyllite crystal is 2 cm and the largest powellite is 1.5 cm. Powellite, which forms a series with scheelite, is calcium molybdate, and reaches its zenith in India. 5.9 x 5.3 x 3 cm
Glassy, colorless, fluorapophyllite crystals, to 2 cm in length, adorn a cluster of tan, lustrous and translucent, powellite crystals, which measure 2.5 cm in length. The lustre and sparkle on this powellite is incredible! Powellite, which forms a series with scheelite, is at its peak in India. This is a very interesting and showy combinaiton piece from a new pocket! 4.3 x 2.1 x 2 cm
This is a large, complete floater crystal of apophyllite, zoned with a green stripe in the middle - a fine single crystal representative of the "blocky" form of apophyllite, with very fine luster. 5.3 x 3.9 x 2.9cm
This is a large plate of "jewel" apophyllite, nearly colorless (with a very slight greenish tone) with crystals so bright and gemmy they look like flashing jewels! These crystals are up to 3.5 cm in length. They are gathered attractively at the top of the stilbite-covered matrix. There are a few light-salmon stilbite crystals for decoration. This is a big, flashy, showy mineral specimen! 14.4 x 12.2 x 7.3cm
The apophyllites here are BIG (4.5 cm tall and 3.5 across)! 14.1 x 10.9 x 8.4 cm
MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL IN PERSON - like a tower of glittering jewels! There is a greenish core that runs through the center of this stalactite, literally covered with these amazingly flashy and sharp crystals of apophyllite! The camera just could not pick up the glassy luster and flash, so we GUARANTEE you will love this one if you win it! 9.8 x 4.5 x 4.1 cm
JEWEL-LIKE in their intensely glassy, glowing quality, a cluster of apophyllites nestled amongst pearly crystals of stilbite. There are a couple of cleanly cleaved crystals at the bottom of the cluster that do not detract. 5.3 x 4.9 x 4.9cm
A STUNNINGLY pretty specimen, with two large (to 4 cm), gemmy, blocky apophyllites with the best GLASSY luster. They are nestled amongst large, shimmering bowtie stilbites of a pretty salmon color. This is much better in person…a real showstopper! 15.5 x 11.5 x 5.5 cm
This is a superb example of a large, lustrous, complete and doubly-terminated "green stripe" apophyllite crystal, which grew out from the green center in both directions to culminate in flat, glassy terminations. It sits on just a bit of matrix, with some smaller apophyllites and stilbite to add an accent. 5.8 x 6.0 x 4.3 cm
