LW32 - Mordenite - $ 125 SOLD Old Broken Hill Road, Coromandle Peninsula, New Zealand miniature, 4.4 x 3 x 3 cm ex. Martin Lewadny
This 2 cm vug is completely filled with gorgeous .25 cm sprays of ultra-fine and lustrous needles of this uncommon zeolite in fine quality. The pics really do say it all.
MD-130027 - Mordenite, Stilbite-Ca - - Archived Jalgaon District, Maharashtra, India cabinet, 11.8 x 9.5 x 8.3 cm.
11.8 x 9.5 x 8.3 cm. Mordenite is one of the rarer members of the zeolite family. It forms fine sprays of radial acicular crystal clusters that look like pin-cushions or snowballs. Here, you see a huge 7-cm "snowball" intergrown with another about half its size. These are beautifully accented by cream-colored stilbites. A dramatic, striking, sizeable and uncommon Indian specimen from the noted mid-west minerals collection of George Feist (he also had a large Indian suite!).
MD-154870 - Heulandite-Ca, Mordenite - - Archived Rats Nest Claim, Challis, Custer Co., Idaho, USA cabinet, 13.9 x 12.9 x 9.9 cm.
13.9 x 12.9 x 9.9 cm. A BIG specimen of a pretty American zeolite - pastel peachy fans of lustrous heulandite, to 3.5 cm, from the Rats Nest Claim in Idaho. This is a major find for the species by worldwide standards and certainly produced the best in the USA. These came out in spurts in the last 10 years or so. This is a very good, large, aesthetic example and quite beautiful too. There are a few translucent calcites here as well.
MD-157193 - Mordenite - - Archived San Juan, Argentina small cabinet, 7.2 x 5.8 x 5.3 cm.
7.2 x 5.8 x 5.3 cm. Mordenite is a little-known, rare zeolite (Hydrated Calcium Sodium Potassium Aluminum Silicate), represented in this Argentine specimen by a fuzzy carpet of countless tiny acicular crystals that completely cover the inside of this geode. New find!
MD-163969 - Cavansite, Mordenite - - Archived Wagholi Quarry, Wagholi, Pune District (Poonah District), Maharashtra, India miniature, 4.4 x 4.1 x 3.0 cm.
4.4 x 4.1 x 3.0 cm. An EXCELLENT and UNCOMMON cavansite combination specimen from the famed Wagholi Quarry of India. A showy cluster of gemmy and lustrous, royal-blue, BLADED cavansite crystals is jauntily perched on soft-to-the-touch, snow-white mordenite on basalt matrix. Nearly all Wagholi cavansite is found on stilbite and bladed cavansite is not that common, so this is an exceptional combination specimen from this well-known locality.
MD-168130 - Mordenite, Quartz (Var: Amethyst) - - Archived Jalgaon District, Maharashtra, India small cabinet, 9 x 8 x 5.6 cm.
9 x 8 x 5.6 cm. A first-rate Mordenite specimen from Jalgaon. The Mordenite balls are nicely balanced across the Amethyst pocket, giving the specimen fine balance to go along with the beautiful contrast in color. The Mordenites have excellent definition, where you can actually see the terminations of the fine needles that comprise each ball, the largest of which is 1.3 cm across. The Mordenite even has a fine white fluorescence. Ex. Charlie Key.
MD-178958 - Mordenite - - Archived Jalgaon District, Maharashtra, India large cabinet, 17.9 x 14.9 x 9.9 cm.
17.9 x 14.9 x 9.9 cm. Mordenite is one of the rarer zeolite minerals. So when it comes to a ball of it 10 cm across - well, what can I say? This thing is just too impressive for words. Not only is it huge, complete and pristine, but it sits beautifully on a field of creamy stilbite crystals.
MD-187392 - Heulandite-Ca, Mordenite - - Archived Rats Nest Claim, Challis, Custer Co., Idaho, USA cabinet, 11.4 x 9.9 x 9.3 cm.
11.4 x 9.9 x 9.3 cm. This is the side of a pocket lined with microcrystals of peachy pink heulandite on top of which are a second generation of larger crystals.
MD-192636 - Stilbite-Ca, Heulandite-Ca, Mordenite - - Archived Jalgaon District, Maharashtra, India cabinet, 13.0 x 9.0 x 5.0 cm.
13.0 x 9.0 x 5.0 cm. A fine Indian cabinet plate of isolated, lustrous stilbite bowties and mushrooms with lustrous, tan to pearlescent, parallel-growth heulandite crystal clusters on a snow-white matrix of mordenite. The mushroom and stilbite bowties are striking.
MD-198032 - Mordenite, Stilbite-Ca - - Archived Jalgaon District, Maharashtra, India cabinet, 14.9 x 12.4 x 10.9 cm.
14.9 x 12.4 x 10.9 cm. Mordenite (Hydrated Calcium Sodium Potassium Aluminum Silicate) is one of the more rare minerals of the zeolite group. Here, from the famous zeolite locality of Jalgaon is an incredibly huge and rich, and even rather pretty, specimen of this rare mineral. This amazing mordenite ball measures 8.5 cm across. It is intergrown with a smaller ball, also pristine. The mordenite sits on a carefully trimmed-out matrix of pale stilbite.
MD-201610 - Mordenite, Stilbite-Ca - - Archived Jalgaon District, Maharashtra, India cabinet, 14.4 x 12.4 x 10.9 cm.
14.4 x 12.4 x 10.9 cm. Mordenite is one of the rarer members of the zeolite group of minerals. The mordenite here has formed fine sprays of radial acicular crystal clusters that look like giant snowballs; together, they measure 14 cm across. The stilbite matrix has been wonderfully (and laboriously) trimmed underneath and around the sides to make a perfect setting for the two mordenite balls.
MD-208668 - Quartz (Var: Amethyst), Mordenite - - Archived Nasik District, Maharashtra, India cabinet, 9.9 x 8.0 x 7.5 cm.
9.9 x 8.0 x 7.5 cm. From the quartz suite of the noted Richard Hauck Collection, a specimen of amethyst that is really outstanding for India, and actually pretty outstanding for anywhere. It is a knob of crystals that have grown radially out from a central point. The crystals have wonderful clarity, with a pretty purple blush to them and super-gemmy tips. What is really distinctive is the peppering of tiny balls of acicular mordenite crystals, which are embedded in the surface of the amethyst crystals.
MD-223947 - Mordenite - - Archived Eagle Eye Mine area, Moore Mine group, New Water District, New Water Mts, La Paz Co., Arizona, USA small cabinet, 8.6 x 6.7 x 5.1 cm.
8.6 x 6.7 x 5.1 cm. Here you have a rich, hand-sized specimen covered with this beautiful zeolite mineral species - and again, from a zeolite find in Arizona I had never seen a specimen of. I had never myself even heard of mordenite, let alone in sharp acicular crystals like this, from Arizona.
MD-226322 - Apophyllite-(KF), Mordenite - - Archived Jalgaon District, Maharashtra, India thumbnail, 2.9 x 2.2 x 1.9 cm.
2.9 x 2.2 x 1.9 cm. This is a superb thumbnail of apophyllite. The crystal is 2 cm across, and complete 360-degress around, like a splayed-out cube. It has intense, unusual color. Ex. Dr. Stephen Smale Collection.
MD-231684 - Cavansite, Mordenite - - Archived Wagholi Quarry, Wagholi, Pune District (Poonah District), Maharashtra, India miniature, 4.7 x 3.0 x 2.7 cm.
4.7 x 3.0 x 2.7 cm. A fine, two-edged cluster of saw-toothed, royal-blue cavansite blades are aesthetically set on a contrasting, bulbous, 3-dimensional matrix of snow-white, soft to the touch, elastic, mordenite. Cavansite and mordenite combination specimens from the Wagholi Quarry are uncommon. This is a good one, with the uncommon bladed cavansite varietal.
