5.8 x 4.4 x 3.9 cm. A rich, lustrous specimen of deep butterscotch-colored mimetite, from the classic Mexican mimetite locality of Santa Eulalia - NOT from Mina Ojuela in Durango state. This is much rarer! Mimetites from Mexico came out over the years in all sorts of shades (including the GREEN ones we got recently!). The best-known ones are bright yellow. This is an unusual color, rich and pretty . . . and notably more crystallized in wheat-sheave bundles than the typical Ojuela material which is more common on the market. 1960s-1970s classics.
9.5 x 9.0 x 5.0 cm. Lustrous, PYRAMIDAL, butterscotch-colored wulfenite crystals. The radiating wulfenite cluster on the upper left edge is superb, with the longest crystal at 1.1 cm. The gossan crust is generously coated with forest-green mimetite, an outstanding compliment. The exact mine location is Level 6, San Juan Poniente vein.
5.2 x 5.0 x 3.4 cm. A CLASSIC, OLD-TIME and showy English specimen of discrete and clustered campylite crystals on superbly contrasting oxide-coated quartz matrix. Campylite is the old English name for barrel-shaped mimetite crystals. The gemmy to opaque, yellow-orange crystals reach 1.2 cm. Campylites of this quality are from the famous Dry Gill Mine at Caldbeck Fells and probably date from the 1840s to 1870s. This historic old-timer comes from an old European collection, where everything dates to the 1800s. This whole collection had myriad old materials, though I cannot name the owner, and was well known in Europe. Accompanied by an old faded German label.
3.9 x 3.8 x 2.4 cm. This is an absolutely glassy and gemmy, mostly colorless cerussite crystal 2.75 cm in length that has been included by wisps of light green malachite. This was a very rare find reported only once to my knowledge, in the late 1970s. In fact there is an article about it in the famous Mineralogical Record special issue on Tsumeb from the time, 1978. Minor peripheral contact exists at the right edge of the crystal but it’s basically all there, and stands so robust and gemmy it couldn't be placed better. There is some damage to the smaller adjacent crystals, but the overall beauty of the specimen is simply not affected. A drapery of sparkling yellow mimetite is at the front, lower edge. Ex. Carnegie Museum Collection.
10.8 x 8.5 x 5.2 cm. Lustrous, PYRAMIDAL, butterscotch-colored wulfenite crystals. The crust of highly vuggy, botryoidal, forest-green mimetite of unusual color is an outstanding compliment. The exact mine location is Level 6, San Juan Poniente vein.
10.3 x 7.0 x 4.3 cm. Gemmy and lustrous, brown prisms of mimetite are RICHLY and attractively scattered on CABINET matrix on this CLASSIC, OLD-TIME specimen from the famous Wheal Unity of Cornwall. The striking, 1.2 cm, isolated, skyscraper-like crystal looks like the Empire State Building! A very fine and historic specimen with minimal bruising. Easily over 100 years old.
4.9 x 4.0 x 3.7 cm. An excellent Tsumeb combination specimen of a pristine, glassy, smoky, cyclically-twinned cerussite crystal cluster preferentially coated with lustrous, tan mimetite needles. The cerussite blades are substantial and thick. There is a bit of contacting, but this is a complete all-around old-timer from this very famous mine. Mimetite on cerussite in not that common and this is a good one. Ex Rob Smith Collection, a Tsumeb specialist.
2.9 x 2.8 x 2.1 cm. A Tsumeb CLASSIC and showy specimen of lustrous, yellow mimetite microcrystals covering four sides of a sharp tennantite crystal on massive tennantite matrix. Highly representative of the two species and famous locality and a rare combo. Ex. Rob Smith Collection.
4.9 x 2.4 x 2.2 cm. A glittering specimen of piled-up bursts of mimetite crystals, a classic from Santa Eulalia! The elongated crystals bunch together in these mushroom shaped bursts whose massed, lustrous terminations give the surface its characteristic sheen.
13.2 x 12.0 x 10.0 cm. Lustrous, PYRAMIDAL, butterscotch-colored wulfenite crystals. The crust of HIGHLY vuggy and cavernous, botryoidal, forest-green mimetite of unusual color is an outstanding compliment. The exact mine location is Level 6, San Juan Poniente vein.
8.8 x 6.9 x 2.3 cm. A large, rich plate of brushy, sparkly, caramel-colored clusters of mimetite from Mexico. Most folks do not realize there was, in the 1960s, a third famous mimetite locality in addition to the now well-known Ojuela and San Pedro Corralitos Mines. These old pieces are now pretty rare, and a small cab in this condition is hard to obtain. Superb for mimetite from this locality.
10.4 x 6.9 x 5.8 cm. This is a large, very rich specimen of Tsumeb smithsonite. In person, it has a pretty, light greenish-tan color that did not come out in the photo. The shiny crystals are just all over this 3-dimensional, limonitic matrix, filling its pockets and piled up on its projections. In fact, the contact is only on the bottom, and the specimen can be viewed from almost any direction showing off its sparkly 0.5-cm crystals.
6.2 x 3.6 x 2.3 cm. This is a large miniature mimetite with nice sparkly luster and has some milky rhombohedral calcites intergrown with the mimetite.
2.5 x 2.4 x 1.9 cm. A SUPERB, AESTHETIC, COMPETITION-LEVEL thumbnail cluster of Gem Pocket mimetite crystals from the ONE-TIME, 1971 find at the Tsumeb Mine. This is an outstanding, skycraper-like cluster of super gemmy, yellow-green mimetite crystals with pink highlights. These are considered to be the world’s finest mimetites. Definitely considered to be one of the Holy Grail Tsumeb species. All of the crystals are pristine and eminently viewable from all directions. Ex Rob Smith Collection, a noted Tsumeb specialist.
3.8 x 3.5 x 2.3 cm. A UNIQUE, unusual and VERY SHOWY, two-sided Tsumeb pseudomorph! A RICH, HOLLOW cluster lustrous, yellow mimetite crystals has pseudomorphed a star-shaped, cyclically-twinned cerussite crystal!! The bladed bit of gossan matrix at the base adds a superb contrast. This unique specimen is essentially pristine and comes with a pre 1982 label. It is hard to put a value on this amazing and rare Tsumeb perimorph, where the shape of the cerussite is preserved.
