Mimetite from Ojuela Mine, Mapimí, Mun. de Mapimí, Durango, Mexico [db_pics/mdpics/MD-121050a.jpg]

5.3 x 4.8 x 2.6 cm. A specimen from a unique find of truly GREEN mimetite - a beautiful pea green - rather than the typical yellow. It has the typical piled-up botryoidal form, and is on the usual limonite matrix. But this hue is really unusual!

7.1 x 4.5 x 3.8 cm. This is a vug in limonite matrix richly filled with crystallized greenish mimetite - but with the rare added distinction of little gemmy orange crystals of wulfenite sticking out here and there amongst the mimetite!

5.4 x 3.9 x 1.5 cm. From a small batch of mimetites from the classic Santa Eulalia locality that are more GREEN than the typical yellow. Has the typical brushy, botryoidal clusters, and if you look closely, you can see some little wulfenite crystals.

9.6 x 7.7 x 7.4 cm. A vug richly filled with gemmy orange "windowpane" crystals of wulfenite, intermixed with balls of translucent mimetite. This is a classic association from this Mexican locality. This is a beautiful and sizeable specimen!

7.7 x 4.9 x 4.9 cm. Another Mina Ojuela classic - this a LARGE specimen of deep olive-colored mimetite, of the usual cauliflower form, on limonite matrix. A very rich and large specimen for this material!

18.2 x 9.5 x 3.1 cm. A BIG and super-rich specimen of bright, bladed wulfenites, with superb glassy luster, on a layer of powdery yellow mimetite. Ex. Eugene Sensel collection, comes with his label. These old-timers are very hard to obtain now. There is a handwritten note with this specimen that shows it to have been purchased (by Sensel?) in 1959, for $25 (which was good money for a rock half a century ago.). The back of the Sensel label shows it to have been in the Hauck collection in 1972. These have of course become a lot rarer since then. This is a large, unusually impressive plate. Although there is some damage, it is largely intact and glistens with color...and glassy lustre makes it sparkle mightily, too. This is from the Collins Vein, 9th Level of the mine. Very characteristic old material!

9.0 x 6.1 x 4.0 cm. A fine, two-sided, combination specimen from the Tsumeb Mine. Starburst-like tufts of pastel-yellow mimetite needles are aesthetically concentrated amongst isolated, glassy, greenish-gray, willemite crystals on starkly contrasting background of iron oxides. The other side is totally unexpected. Here a rich covering of sparkly, glassy, olive-green, willemite crystals in spherical clusters highlighted with scattered mimetite clusters is evident. Really a contrast in two types of willemite here. Ex. Uli Bahmann Collection.

4.1 x 3.5 x 2.8 cm. Brilliantly sparkling, lustrous, translucent yellow crystals of top color intersect to make this lovely cluster. Some damage as you would expect, and contacting, but overall a beautiful piece that really shows off why Tsumeb mimetites are so famous still today. Ex. Charlie Key stock.

8.0 x 6.8 x 3.2 cm. Lustrous, silky yellow-green, botryoidal mimetite in 3-dimensional, cauliflower-like clusters form an excellent and very showy specimen from the famous Mina Ojuela of Mexico. This is one of the finest Ojuela mimetites of this variety that I have seen - NOT to be confused with the more commonly seen mimetite from San Pedro Corralitos! A pristine specimen from the Brent Lockhart Collection.

6.4 x 5.2 x 3.4 cm. This mimetite is quite familiar for the locality, except for the strange COLOR - pea-green rather than the familiar yellow! In botryoidal form, on the usual limonite matrix. From a small batch we got from this unusual find at a classic and prolific Mexican locality.

6.2 x 5.4 x 3.9 cm. You will recognize the form and locality of this mimetite, but NOT this amazing green color - they are almost always yellow, orange-yellow or brownish-yellow! A great piece for a collector of Mexican specimens who wants something really different!
