THE PHOTOS DO NOT DO THIS JUSTICE. In person, it GLOWS with color: This is a gorgeous, sparkling , 3-dimensional specimen with the brightest mimetite you can imagine. It has lustre that is just fake-looking, and a subtle shift of colors from yellow to burnt orange within the same specimen. It is obviously an interesting locale, but more than that it is a very pretty, unique, lead minerals specimen that stands on its own no matter where it is from. It looks like no mimetite I can think of from any other place, and will stand out in a case! On very close inspection, one realizes that some of the more orangey crystals are actually small hexagonal plates: vanadinite. ex UPMC - University of Paris collection, exchanged out to French dealer Alain Martaud some time ago. I have never seen another, myself.

A beautiful miniature with large botryoidal mimetite growths to 1.5 cm. This is complete 360-degrees, all around! It has the nice sparkling surface coating of microcrystallization that adds lustre, to the underelaying balls. While a little darker than most, the piece overall is quite aesthetic and a fine miniature from this one-time find of 1968.

A brilliantly colorful miniature of top tier quality, with riveting yellow-orange color, large botryoidal growths, and good 3-dimensional form. The piece formed coating a ridge of matrix, now gone in the middle. So, it is complete on all sides except the bottom. A fine miniature from this famous, one-time find of 1968 of very high quality. If displayed vertically, this looks like a stalactite, but it is not a true stalactite per se

This is a very old specimen characteristic of what you can find documented in books or museums from the early mimetites found at Tsumeb, back before WWI (1890s-1910 or so). It turned up in an old collection in Europe recently. The crystals are robust elongated prisms, to 2.2 cm in length. While there is some damage, the piece is largely unscathed and is remarkable for its size and 3-dimensional presentation, given its age. It is 720 grams.Joe Budd Photos

Mimetite from many locales in Mexico are common on the market, but not from the old Bilbao Mine. This unusual specimen comes from the private collection of old-time dealers Dalton and Consie Prince of Houston. It was passed on from their collection by their daughter to collector David Stoudt, and I have always appreciated its aesthetics and unusual form. It is quite different from other Mexican mimetites.. Here you have a dramatic, large, 3-dimensional specimen from a very rare and old find. It looks good from ANY angle and to be honest, I cannot decide which "front" i like better. It is good horizontal, sitting flat; or standing up vertical. The balls of crystals are also VERY large for the material, reminding me well of the famous Pellman specimen from this pocket. The gossan matrix is completely smothered by sparkling balls of botryoidal mimetite. The color is almost a saturated yellow, nearly the best you can get for the locality and considered more desirable than orange-yellow hues. It is brilliantly sparkling in light, and colorful and complete all around 360 degrees. As a bonus, there are little sparkly calcites perched here and there atop the mimetite balls - a very rare association for the pocket and one I have seen only a very few times before. ALL such mimetites as this were collected in a single large find in end of 1968 and start of 1969 by Benny Fenn (right before the Tucson show of that year!), from a one-time pocket at a small prospect. It was literally a small prospect, not even a developing mine, and it never panned out or produced more specimens again. Despite attempts to find another mimetite pocket, no more ever came out. These remain unique in the world for their overall aspect; and large, colorful pieces like this are treasured by those who have them. No other locality has produced mimetite of such aspect to this day. Even at the time, this would have been considered exceptional for its size and all-around aesthetics. Again, from my perspective, the color grade on this is particularly high, making it a choice specimen even among those of us who have seen many over the years. As a bonus, this piece has the history all the way back to when it came out, going through three collections - in reverse order being: Larry Conklin, the late John Marshall, and Karl Vossbrink. Offered now for the first time in over a decade. Joe Budd photos.

A riveting, intense yellow-orange miniature, from this important and one-time-only 1969 find. This has big yellow balls, and looks like an inflating balloon. Complete all around. About the best color you ever see in the material. As well, undamaged examples like this turn up only seldom. Joe Budd Photos.

An old specimen from the famous Tsumeb mine, this is an unusually beautiful and glassy wulfenite cluster, decorated with pale yellow-beige mimetite sprays! There are a few very minor chips only, on this 3-dimensional piece. Exceptional quality, gemminess, luster , and color - taken together, this is a fine miniature. Joe Budd Photos.
