Superb single 2.2 cm crystal of Mimetite that has excellent color, good luster and striations, and is partly gemmy. Even the smaller Mimetites are excellent, and the starkly contrasting sparkly dolomite background really sets the mimetite off nicely! Aesthetic as can be – one of my favorites, and you can see why. Purchased from the Zweibels in 1978

RUT391 - Cuprite with mimetite - SOLD
Tsumeb, Namibia

thumbnail, 2.2 x 2.2 x 2 cm
share specimen

ex.  Ed Ruggiero

Sorry, we have no images of this specimen at present.

Sharp, euhedral cuprite crystals are quite rare from Tsumeb, and this one is a great example with associated mimetite to prove that it really IS Tsumeb and isn't rather from Onganja elsewhere in Namibia, or Zaire. The piece is complete all around and 3-dimensional. In person, when backlit, it has a cherry red glow inside and is somewhat translucent.

A most unusual specimen with a fat, flaring mimetite crystal coming out from matrix, and another flaring to the left. The mimetites are like none i have seen with flaring tops on tapered bases, and orange cores within yellow. They look like flowers. Was $1800 , sam's value...

Super mimetite thumbnail for the locality! this is much more rare than the material from San Pedro Correlitos, with which it is often confused.

Here you have a dramatic, large, 3-dimensional specimen from a very rare and old find - literally a vertical tower of light gossan matrix completely smothered by sparkling balls of botryoidal mimetite. The color is a saturated yellow, nearly the best you can get for the locality and far more desirable than orange-yellow hues. It is brilliantly sparkling in light due to a secondary miute deposition atop the larger "balls." The color is a very intense orangey-yellow hue. ALL such mimetites as this were collected in a single large find in end of 1968 and start of 1969 by Benny Fenn (right before the Tucson show of that year!), from a one-time pocket at a small prospect. It was literally a small prospect, not even a developing mine, and it never panned out or produced more specimens again. Despite attempts to find another mimetite pocket, no more ever came out after one release in 1969 , which was sold off at the Tucson show. These remain unique in the world for their overall aspect; and large, colorful pieces like this are treasured by those who have them. Even at the time, this would have been considered exceptional for its elegant vertical aesthetics. The color grade on this is very high, making it a choice specimen even among those of us who have seen many over the years. ex. Dr. Gary Hansen Collection (I bought this collection in 2003 and sold it to Dave Stoudt, within days after). . Joe Budd photos.

Snow-white barite on SHOCKING fiery-red mimetite, makes for a stunning contrast. This is extremely rare material , found in the 1960s-1970s in limited quantity, and I have seen only 3 for sale in the last 5 years or so.

A rich, gorgoues specimen covered with sparkling yellow barrel-shaped crystals of mimetite from this onetime find of the mid-1990s. These are spectacular mimetite by any standard and were generally unappreciated at the time. Scarce , now, they were never common to begin with and no more have come out since. This is a specimen that had remained with one of the original importers of the material into Europe, until recently.

Translucent, lemon yellow spheres of mimetite have aesthetically formed on a crust of limonite. The spheres get up to .5 cm across. Because of the unique and truly yellow (no orange hue here!) color, this is a killer thumbnail.
