Massive, dark gray galena ore (unusual for the locality) is the matrix for this combo specimen with a 4 - 5 cm wide band of secondary mineralization running its length. Spherical, beautifully velvety, rich green mimetites, to .5 cm across, are associated with scattered glassy and translucent, amber-colored wulfenite crystals, to .5 cm in length. There are some minor wulfenites that are damaged, but they are primarily here for color accent anyways and a bonus to the quality mimetite. The ribbon running down the middle presents very nicely!
This is a VERY unusual piece even amongst the quantity I have seen, an extremely aesthetic specimen . It has squarish, equant, GLASSY and translucent wulfenite crystals, to .6 cm in length, nestled in a V shaped matrix vug covered in solid rich green mimetite. The wulfenite crystals are among the gemmiest I have ever seen for the species from this locality and so glassy they really leap out.
Emplaced on a limonite matrix are spheres of beautifully velvety, rich green mimetite, to .6 cm across. On top of the mimetite is a cluster of equant, glassy and translucent, amber-colored wulfenite crystals to, .6 cm in length. Very sculptural specimen, overall!
An elegant, lightweight limonite matrix is the host for spheres of beautifully velvety, rich green mimetite. Sprinkled on the mimetite are sparkling, elongated, glassy and translucent crystals of amber-colored wulfenite, to .5 cm in length. Very graceful and aesthetic specimen
This piece is BIG and sparkling. It is very impactful, and one of the more dramatic such specimens I have seen come out. The convex goethite/limonite matrix is totally covered by botryoidal, sparkling olive-green mimetite, in spheres to .75 cm across. Scattered crystals of elongated, glassy and lustrous, amber-colored wulfenite, to .75 cm in length, are perched on the mimetite for a bit of contrast (a few have minor damage, but only a few, trivially). The plate is gracefully curved, and very attractive - much more so, in person. The contrast is striking on this large, colorful specimen, one of a VERY few larger pieces recovered in this quality level in 2009.
A beautiful and large, sparkling plate with olive-green mimetite completely draping a goethite/limonite matrix. The mimetite is botryoidal , with silky luster and a pleasing shimmer to its surface. .Scattered on the mimetite are several elongate, lustrous and translucent, amber-colored wulfenite crystals, to 1.0 cm in length. The contrast is striking on this large, colorful specimen, one of a VERY few larger pieces recovered in this quality level in 2009.
A vuggy limonite matrix is host to spherical, olive-green mimetite, to.7 cm across. Widely scattered on the mimetite are elongated, lustrous and translucent, amber-colored wulfenite crystals, to 7mm in length. The stark contrast of color and geometry is what makes this material so appealing to me, and this piece exemplifies that contrast - a lot of color, and a lot of surface area to show it off!
Unusually elongated, bar-like wulfenites (to 8mm) are associated with the mimetite here, all on a thin limonite matrix. The mimetite is rich, and olive-green, although medium in lustre. A good size for the price, with rich coverage
Nestled in a vug of limonite are large spheres of rich green mimetite, to 8mm across. The back side has a druse of white calcite. The richness of mimetite on this piece , and its deep color and large formations, make it a very fine example of the find.
One of my favorites of the smaller specimens, this is particularly aesthetic. A rounded knob of limonite is covered by spherical green mimetite, with a silky sheen. Perched on the mimetite are two starkly isolated, lustrous and translucent, amber-colored crystals of wulfenite, to .75 cm in length. Flakes of white calcite are scattered about on the mimetite. The contrasts of geometry and color are very appealiing on this 3-dimensional specimen that is a small cab, or a large miniature
Emplaced on ocherous limonite matrix are lovely spheres of lustrous and velvety, rich green, mimetite, to .50 cm across. The back of the matrix is sawn to remove excess material. Unusual, in the stark isolation of the mimetite "balls"
Scattered over the silky, olive-green mimetite are glassy and translucent, amber-colored crystals of wulfenite, to 1 cm in length. The largest crystal is also doubly terminated. A beautiful combination, and a colorful miniature.
A solid specimen of richest mimetite! Clusters of silky sheen and velvety, rich green spheres of mimetite, to 6mm across, completely envelop a limonite matrix. The piece is very balanced and attractive, and for one of the solid mimetite specimens here has a very high quality to it.
A thin but 3-dimensional crust of silky, rich green mimetite, to .6 cm across, completely covers a core of ocherous limonite. In one quadrant of the specimen as accent are three elongated, lustrous and translucent, amber-colored crystals of wulfenite, to 1 cm in length. Two of the wulfenite crystals are also doubly terminated. Primarily though, the piece is a mimetite, and a very attractive one!
A pleasing sculptural arrangement of hills and valleys upon this limonitic matrix speimen. Covering the limonite are spheroidal clusters of silky sheen, rich green mimetite, just beautifully 3-dimensional. My favorite for this size and price range!
