A fine Tsumeb mimetite that is actually a shard of thin matrix covered all the way around with crystals to just under a centimeter. It is covered front and back! The crystals have fine luster, color and form! Ex. Gary Hansen to Evan Jones many years ago, before Hansen retired from the business. 3.5 x 3.2 x 1.3 cm
8.1 x 6.7 4.4 cm. A superb example of this classic mimetite varietal, once known by the local name Campylite in the mid-1800s. This material, which typically has an orangey to brick red color, is one of the most classic lead species found in the north of England. This particular piece is notable for its high lustre, its rich color which is more vibrant than usual, and a small association with baryte for accent. Ex. Ernie Schlichter Collection.
Nestled down in a vug of massive quartz are ocher colored barrels of mimetite. The crystals have bright luster and are well formed with the largest crystal measuring nearly 1 cm in length. I would hazard a guess that this is among the brightest color and lsutre of the type. 8.9 x 6.1 x 4.4 cm
On a stalk of matrix made up of tiny sparkling mimetite crystals and minor malachite, is a beautiful frosted "trilling," or twin, of cerussite. The crystal is over 5.5 cm across. As one would expect with cerussite, this specimen exhibits great adamantine luster. Crystals of this size and quality from Tsumeb, are becoming very scarce. It is complete all around, 360-degrees, as you can see form the front and back images. The cerussite just hangs at the edge of the matrix, amazingly preserved and pristine espcially considering the size. 5.7 x 5.2 x 5 cm
This is definitely one of the better green mimetite crystal groups from this locality, which has produced the finest botryoidal mimetites in the world bar none for the orange style with which we are all familiar. However, what most of us NEVER see are these weird yellow-green mimetites of same form, from a small portion of the same pocket collected in the early 1970s. The spheres occur in clusters which can reach 1.5 cm across. Originating from a limonite matrix, they have a good deal of 3-dimensionality to them. This piece overall has a nice sculptural appearance. There is one very minor ding atop and some minor damage in one area of the specimen (lower-middle as shown here, at about 4 o'clock) that detracts a little bit, I admit (and hence the price is lowered accordingly). However, in the context of the specimen's rarity and size, and since it displays with that portion towards the bottom, i still like the piece a lot and highly recommend it for "what it is", which is a unique beast that is impossible to replace, so you bear a little damage if need be. (besides, if it doesn't sell as is, i'll just trim it in half and sell the better half for the same price anyhow, as its worth it! but, seems a shame to reduce in size an old piece like this from the start) 9.5 x 6.2 x 3.9 cm
Bright, transparent, light yellowish-orange wulfenite blades to 0.5 cm along with minute tufts of white mimetite on a matrix of limonite gossan. 5.5 x 5.1 x 2.5 cm
IDENTICAL IN QUALITY and aspect on both sides, complete around the perimeter, this is a stunning, and unusually fine specimen with great aesthetics! These came out in the early 1970s and fro one pocket, at that. They have not been found fresh in over 30 years. A piece this size, in such condition, is quite hard to come by today. 6.5 x 3.5 x 1.3 cm
This superb thumbnail is highlighted by a sublime, gemmy, 1.7 cm, doubly-terminated Mimetite that sits high on the matrix, accented by several other quality crystals. From the world-famous ‘Gem Pocket’ of the early 70’s. Aesthetic and world-class competition-quality thumber....it is just unbelieveable that something like this actually SURVIVED, to me! 2.6 x 2.4 x 1.7 cm
This is a very sharp, 1.2 cm, doubly-terminated Mimetite perched perfectly on just the right amount of matrix. The luster and color are both very good, and the crystal is fairly gemmy. If you ever wanted a representative specimen from the famous ‘Gem Pocket’ of the early 70’s, this is your chance. They do not come available very often! 2.1 x 1.6 x 1.4 cm
These rounded aggregates of curved crystals are classic for this locality, and these are of large size. The burnt-orange color and very good luster create an appealing and high-quality thumbnail. 2.1 x 1.8 x 1.7 cm
Very nice cluster of attractive Mimetites that sit well on matrix. The crystals have a good yellow color and superb luster. The finest Mimetites in the world have come from Tsumeb 3.6 x 2.2 x 1.8 cm
Lustrous and gemmy, golden-yellow mimetite crystals to 7 mm liberally cover iron-oxide coated matrix from the recent Chinese find. Now gone and defunct! 7.1 x 5.5 x 3.7 cm
A excellent thumbnail cluster of lustrous, tabular, olive-green mimetite barrels to 7 mm on matrix from the ONE-TIME, small find at the Cobar Mine in 1988. VERY SELDOM available in any size or quality on the market. Displays nicely! 2.7 x 2.5 x 1.8 cm
An EXCELLENT and AESTHETIC Tsumeb specimen of gemmy and lustrous, elongated, light yellow to light brown, mimetite crystals nearly covering a very nicely shaped piece of matrix. 7.0 x 5.8 x 3.6 cm
This large, rich specimen is surely one of the very best examples of its species from the small find, of about ten flats brought to Tucson in 1989. They were mined in 1988, according to the MR issue on the Ojuela Mine. Some pieces were sprinkled lightly with mimetite (much of it white), but this one has extraordinarily rich coverage of yellow mimetite and thus good contrast that is lacking in the few others i have even seen for sale over the years. The specimen in the University of Arizona Mineral Museum, illustrated in that issue of the MR, is 17 cm compared to the 12 cm size here, but it lacks the aesthetics and contrast of this piece to my eye . In any case, most have long since disappeared into museums and collections. I have seen only two great pieces, including this one, for sale in the last decade. 12 x 8.5 x 4 cm
