2.9 x 1.6 x 1.6 cm. Gemmy and lustrous, golden-yellow mimetite crystals richly and aesthetically cover both sides of the thin gossan matrix on this beautiful and rare miniature from the small, one-time 1997 find at Hat Yai, Thailand. This is a superb specimen from this find.
5.0 x 3.8 x 3.4 cm. An excellent wulfenite and mimetite miniature from the San Francisco Mine of Mexico. Golden-yellow, water-clear wulfenite windowpanes to 1.6 cm are aesthetically and richly scattered on the mounded gossan matrix, which is richly covered with botryoidal, yellow mimetite. The wulfenite blades have very sharp beveled edges. This is classic and outstanding combination material from this historic mine.
5.9 x 3.8 x 3.4 cm. An striking specimen with lustrous, pseudocubic, butterscotch-colored wulfenite crystals festooned on a very sturdy, 3-dimensional gossan matrix and beautifully complimented by botryoidal green mimetite from a new find at the Mina Ojuela at Mapimi, Mexico. The largest wulfenite crystal is 2.0 cm (large for find). This is a new find, from just before the 2008 Denver Show. The exact mine location is Level 6, San Juan Poniente vein.
6.5 x 5.0 x 2.4 cm. A classic and fine specimen from Santa Eulalia, Mexico and the Consie Prince Collection. The sturdy piece looks like a "forest" of lustrous, honey brown-colored mimetite crystals having a very interesting, tree-like look with the calcite crystals hidden amongst them. These are often mistakenly thought to come from the Ojuela or Corralitos locales.
5.4 x 3.4 x 2.8 cm. Gemmy and lustrous, yellow-green mimetite prisms to 5 mm richly cover 2 and 1/2 sides of the mounded sulfide matrix on this fine specimen from the Tsumeb Mine. Very attractively, many of the mimetite crystals have a preferential overgrowth of rust-red iron oxides. The scattered bruising is very minimally detracting and actually reveals, that the red color is a coating. Ex. Charles Hansen Collection.
EXCEPTIONALLY RARE old Cornish mimetite specimen, most likely from the mid to late 1800s, and very seldom seen for sale. This features a crystal to 1cm. Nothing compared to Tsumeb, but for English mimetites, this is a good one! It has been sight-validated by several English dealers at the Denver show and comes with a label from another English dealer. 3.6 x 2.5 x 1.2 cm
6.1 x 4.3 x 3.8 cm. Collected in 1969 by Benny Fenn, from a one-time find at a small prospect. It was a small prospect, not even a developing mine, that never panned out. And despite attempts to find another mimetite pocket, no more ever came out after one load in 1969 that was sold off at the Tucson show of that year. Here you have a fine, 3-dimensional specimen- a vertical tower of light gossan matrix coated by sparkling balls of botryoidal mimetite. The color is a very intense orangey-yellow hue.
4.0 x 3.5 x 2.7 cm. A fine wulfenite specimen from the older finds at the San Francisco Mine of Mexico. Yellow mimetite balls are included in the water-clear, very glassy, yellow wulfenite windowpanes. The windowpanes have the typical sharp, beveled edges. This is a fine specimen, tine, with no broken crystals, is complete all-around and has orange mimetite balls richly scattered on the matrix. From the 1970s.
8.4 x 6.5 x 2.8 cm. Sparkly, cauliflower-like florets of yellow-green mimetite crystals richly and attractively cover the matrix plate with a very 3-dimensional look on this fine specimen from the Mina Ojuela Mine of Mexico. Ex. Brent Lockhart Collection.
6.4 x 4.9 x 3.4 cm. A fine mimetite specimen from the Mina Ojuela of Mexico. Pale, yellow-green mimetite botryoids to 6 mm richly cover the vuggy gossan matrix. The mimetites are further highlighted by grayish, botryoidal goethite. This is an older Ojuela mimetite and bares a marked resemblance to San Pedro Corralitos mimetite. The gossan matrix and slight color variation defines the locality.
7.6 x 4.9 x 5.1 cm. Beautiful sparkling 2-3mm yellow wulfenites embedded in a massive mimetite matrix, covered with sparkly mimetite druse. Unusual and old locality specimen. Ex. Harold Urish Collection.
2.0 x 1.5 x 0.8 cm. A fine thumbnail cluster of lustrous, translucent, striated, butterscotch-colored mimetite crystals from the Tsumeb Mine. The large crystal is 1.5 cm and is doubly terminated. Ex. Rob Smith Collection.
11.0 x 7.8 x 2.5 cm. A fine, exotic-looking cabinet combination specimen from the Tsumeb Mine. This two-sided specimen features starbursts of sparkly, colorless mimetite needles richly scattered amongst tiny rosettes of green malachite. The mimetite and malachite rest on, and partially replace, rust-brown cuprite crystals, that coat the very sculptural, thin matrix crust of sulfides. Ex. Rob Smith Collection, a noted Tsumeb specialist.
4.4 x 3.1 x 1.2 cm. Gemmy and lustrous, lemon-yellow to golden-orange, color-zoned crystals to 1.1 cm richly and aesthetically cover the gossan matrix plate on this beautiful miniature. These lustrous, bright mimetites represented a very important new find for the species when they came out 5 or 6 years ago.
If you missed out on these wonderful Chinese mimetites due to the price and low availability, here is a chance at one. The crystals ( to 2 mm) are absolutely TOP in luster, with superb orange color. 8.5 x 5.2 x 3.3 cm
