4MS11 - Catapleite on Microcline - $ 450
Mont St. Hilaire, Quebec, Canada
miniature, 5.2 x 4.8 x 4.4 cm

Sorry, we have no images of this specimen at present.

This is a crude but EXTREMELY large crystal for the species, that measures nearly 5 cm across and is about 1 cm thick . It does have some edge damage on a few upper faces to teh sides of the termination, not visible form teh display face in any case. Still, it is a monstrous single crystal of a species that normally forms thin, flat platy crystals. Thus, it may not be the prettiest one, but it IS up there in significance. The fat crystal sits perched on a shard of white feldspar matrix, standing straight up. It is included a bit (with aegerine?) and so the pictures are poor compared to the specimen because of the way light reflects when we shoot it - in person, it is somehwat included but not as dark on the front as you see it here.

A huge matrix plate of beautiful white albite just sprinkled with lovely, wine-red garnets! Unusual for the county, especially to get such a large plate with all the geologic disruption here! "This was collected 1986/87 by

An unusual specimen with fat, lustrous, sparkling, lavender lepidolite crystals forming thick barrel-shaped crystals to 2 cm! A lot of people look down on the species as a boring micaceous mineral from the Himalaya, but these fat crystals are good for lepidolite from ANY location. Acquired from the collection of Tim Sherburn, who got it while doing cleaning and prep work for mine owner Pala Intl. over the years.

Previously from the Don Olson collection, this is a REALLY impressive rock even for those of us who are not exactly partial to feldspars...the aesthetics of the white cleavelandite and purple lepidolite crystals really make the piece special and accentuate the sharp twinning of the feldspar itself! Not a tourmaline, but nevertheless one of my favorites in the lot!

This large crystal of microcline is extremely aesthetic and unusual. It is untwinned and two faces have undergone parallel growth. In addition, there is no thin, clear, overgrowth. The specimen is white but is lustrous.

This specimen is highlighted by an 11 cm long crystal on matrix that really shows off the white core and glassy overgrowth rim. To top it off, there is a completely glassy 5 mm crystal near the base of the larger one. The luster on this piece is super.

This crystal exemplifies the glassy overgrowth rim to a point where even the small crystals on the side have been invested with the overgrowth. In addition, this piece displays superb luster.p>

For my taste, this specimen has everything going for it. To start with, the main crystal height of 6 cm conforms to its matrix of smaller microcline crystals. Secondly, is the albite-style twinning along with the outstanding luster. Thirdly, on the back side, this specimen exhibits the best example of the thick white core and the thin glassy overgrowth.

FEL15 - Microcline - $ 125 SOLD
Hashupa, Shigar Valley, northeast of Skardu, Pakistan
small cabinet, 6.5 x 5 x 3.5 cm

While this specimen exhibits mostly the white core, it does have good luster along with great parallel growth. I think it resembles tree growth. A neat piece!
