MD-228429 - Metastibnite - - Archived San José Mine, Oruro City, Cercado Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia thumbnail, 2.3 x 2.0 x 1.0 cm.
2.3 x 2.0 x 1.0 cm. Metastibnite is a relatively rare antimony sulfide and is dimorphous with Stibnite. These wonderful, unique and interesting Metastibnite specimens from Bolivia were collected in the Fall of 2003. Before this discovery, Metastibnite was only known as amorphous reddish "smears" on matrix. These new specimens redefined the species for quality and size but the fact that these are crystallized specimens makes them truly desirable for collectors. This features fantastic, lustrous, bright silver color, botryoidal crystal aggregates on cuboctahedral Pyrite matrix. The "spheres" on this specimen are very good for quality and crystal size.
MD-262460 - Metastibnite - - Archived San José Mine, Oruro City, Cercado Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia small cabinet, 9.0 x 6.2 x 4.1 cm.
9.0 x 6.2 x 4.1 cm. This is a rarely seen species in dealers’ stocks. Globular, metallic, lustrous, battleship-gray spheres of metastibnite, to .2 cm across, abound on matrix. This specimen is far more appealing in person, where the luster and sheer number of spheres are evident. It is said to be among the best known specimens of the species, and certainly I can add that it is the only one of any quality I have seen available over the years. Ex. Kosnar Collection from their well-known Bolivian suite built up over 40 years.
